Hopefully, the Rutgers reputation is not so fragile that one fan with a “unique perspective” can harm it. If the reputation is that fragile, it says more about Rutgers football than it says about Al.

I am not defending Al. But his actions have no impact on me. I really don’t understand the reaction to it on here. Why would anyone care?

My only take away was “you gave a stranger $10,000? Are you nuts?”
Didn’t he say 4 digit ? Anyhow, maybe he’s just looking for love and the only way he can try to find it is by paying NIL for it.

Just ignore the man if him rooting for Gavin ruins your day.

a lot of us are rooting for Gavin.

IMHO there's no reason not to.

he was given PLENTY of opportunity to separate himself.

but he failed and got recruited over. it happens. so he's getting a fresh start somewhere else.

good luck to him.

I think theres a large % on here that have no issue with Gavin (or someone rooting for Gavin)

but that's not what people have a problem with (and I think you know that.. if not youre an idiot)

Al goes out of his way to draw attention to himself....and in this case, he bad mouthed our coaches in doing so.

so, yea, some have a problem with the way he conducts himself.

has nothing to do with whether we're rooting for Gavin or not,

If Gavin does well there doesn’t that reflect poorly on our coaching staff, possibly enable negative recruiting, etc ?

Nothing against him personally but I don’t see a reason to root for him.

how is that even possible? Some of the stuff on there is over the top
I reported a comment that was posted by one of the mods, for using slurs that denigrated mentally disabled people and said how (being a mod) they should act under a higher standard than that.

The same mod then used their admin power to permanently ban me from the board in retaliation.

Stop it...that man is a die hard Rutgers fan and I'm almost positive he's donated more than most on this board. When people root for a team they become invested emotionally in the players. Some of the same people complaining about Al complain about NIL ruining college sports because of the loss of that exact thing. He did not bad mouth RU coaches, RU is not in a position to wait for Gavin to develop hence naming AK the starter early so Gavin could find a place to develop. He's saying if you guys can be patient and develop him he can be great. These guys still complaining about Gavin and the team that won the most games in over a decade in the thread about Gavin commiting to Kentucky. They happen to be in the Kentucky board I guess because they miss having someone to post about because these same guys were adamant after every game win or lose not supporting gavin, these same guys are on the Kentucky board trying to find out idk and see als post. Who do you guys think you are? Lol Gavin has Heisman potential! I guess I'm a loser now according to you guys. Get over yourselves

Perhaps you can enlighten us on the comments by members of THIS board over on the Kentucky board denigrating GW in that thread. The only negative one I ran across was the following:
It's not in that thread...look in the thread on this board about Gavin commiting to Kentucky. The linked Kentucky board thread has some RU board member cameos lol

Not sure why you quoted me .

You’re commenting on people that aren’t me - I never bashed Gavin, I never posted on the Kentucky board, etc.

So I find it weird that you used my post to comment about the online behavior of others.

My simple point was - people aren’t criticizing Al for being supportive of gavin, people are criticizing Al for the way he conducts himself .

?? And I'm criticizing the people criticizing Al. Plus you're saying that he "bad mouthed coaches" which is a stretch and misrepresentation of his words. Not to mention I was responding to a post you made in direct response to me lol implying that I knew people were upset with how al carries himself unless I'm an "idiot". Did you forget or what?

I won't speak for others but couldn't care less about Al rooting for Gavin. Also had no idea he posted to other boards until it was brought here.
So obviously people would see it when it's posted here.

I'm just expressing annoyance at a Rutgers fan seemingly trashing our own coaching staff on another board. Especially after expressing how great the HC and OC here.
I’m rooting for Gavin as well, good kid, great teammate.
It’s been normalized for a starting player to transfer after he’s been beaten out… just the unfortunate way it is today.

Saying he has Heisman potential isn’t exactly rooting for him, it’s delusional

It’s not worth trying to explain to you what I wrote as you just seem like an angry guy that wants to fight everyone. I’m not going there. You’re going on ignore . Have a nice life.

LOL. You’re probably correct.

I must have processed it as a noteworthy number. I don’t like “a four digit number” is an expression! So I just saved as five digits in my head.

RutgersAl is a great Rutgers fan, he contributes some good content and spends a ton of money on Rutgers. I'm not surprised at Al being Al, he gets very compassionate over things and can go overboard. Not sure why so many are upset. The Kentucky coaches know what they have, they couldn't care if 1,000 fans said Wimsatt is a Heisman candidate and 1,000 fans said he is the worst QB of all time.
The only concern I can think of is if donating money to a player breaks the rules or not.

Yeah I'm the angry one in this thread...seems like you guys are the type that want group thought. When someone disagrees it's an "argument", no I just think you guys are wrong for singling out a board member for what he does on his personal time.

I think I have similar feelings. It’s a weak word that lacks creativity or substance.
The way I see it, it's easy to identify on message boards. There are those that are constantly negative, as a Rutgers fan it's easy to be influenced by this type of person and adopt their "the sky is falling" positions and take them as your own. When a thread like this is started to bash a genuine fan like RutgersAl it becomes a herd like mentality when all these guys pile on with their corney jokes. These are betas lol then you have people with original thoughts, though they may be outlandish, the person isn't afraid to take on a position no one will agree with and stand on his known. Doesn't need the comfort of group thought on a message board. These are Alphas in the sense of thought processing and independence as a thinker. Then there are those that get influenced by trolls and online propaganda. Betas..

My goodness. Biggest online attention ***** I’ve ever seen. The fact that he has defenders on our boards is a crime against humanity.

He hasn’t just gone full madness…this has been his thing for years. He’s nothing more than an online caricature looking for popularity he can’t find in real life.
Al, may be a madman but he is OUR madman! Every group of fans has a few characters and on this board Al is one of a small group! I like Al because he makes the rest of us SEEM relatively sane! LOL!

I would think short passes are the easiest to complete, no?

For most QBs, yes. To be fair, that’s probably why Al sees the “potential” in Gavin. But after 3 years, he has not made even modest improvement in terms of ball placement and speed on the shorts. He throws passes just as hard to receivers standing 4 feet away from him as he does down field. That’s been a big part of his problem and it didn’t seem like much progress was made based on the spring game.

Every fan base has uber-upbeat fans. Al isn't the only such fan here. Many Rutgers football fans are talking about 10+ wins this season. Many Rutgers basketball fans have been talking Final Four or better since the rumors (now fact) about the 2024 recruiting class. There was one post on the baseball board a couple months ago about how Rutgers baseball is so strong that all players who transferred out after last season are starring for their new teams.

Al is just more upfront and eloquent about it.

I think he's awesome. If he's delusional, he's not the only one, in your fanbase or any other. Nobody outside of the Rutgers world thinks he is the embodiment of a typical Rutgers fan with his optimism, if that's the hang up...

But...what if...

Al's girlfriend was a smokeshow?

How much cred would that dude get instantly? I'd respect it.

I agree with this on most of his posts. In this case though touting how we let a future Heisman caliber go isn’t exactly upbeat and pro-Rutgers. I rarely agree with Shelby, but in this case he’s 100% right that it wouldn’t be a good look for RU at all if what Al is predicting and rooting for Re Gavin actually happens. It wouldn’t matter the whys? Or if coaching was the reason - if Gavin Wimsatt develops into a Heismann candidate next season after only a summer / late spring off season at UK that is a horrible look for our program. Nothing against Gavin but no fan of RU should be rooting for this.

Fair point -- kind of how the rise of Michael Penix reflects on Indiana football...

Even worse. A lot worse. Penix, at least had a great season for Indiana the Covid season.

Gavin never had a good year as a passer at Rutgers. The optics in this case would be Gavin Wimsatt goes from the worst rated D1 QB (in every respected system) at Rutgers to Heisman winner after only one half of an offseason of development with another program.

Again, I’m not bashing the kid or wishing ill will on him except in context of something that would reflect poorly on Rutgers. And there’s no question here. I don’t see how anyone could argue that this wouldnt qualify as a horrible look for our program (this statement shouldn’t be twisted with the debate of whether or not the coaches would actually be to blame - the point is that even if not, it’d still be a terrible look).
