Shelby vs Newton Conover

Think about Newton Conover as they go 9 and 2 and have to play Shelby in first rd and if they win have to play SP in the second.Something is not right.Then you have South Caldwell at 1 and 10 with a first round bye.Pitiful just pitiful.
I hate that people keep bringing up the byes on the 2A board. The byes only apply to the 1A and 4A brackets. While it is a flaw in the system, it has very little to do with SP/Shelby potentially meeting in the 2nd round. With only 48 teams in those brackets that is a separate set of problems that will have to be addressed. It muddies the waters and it creates even more confusion.
Sasha, I agree and by reading some of the posts on these boards the last 2 days you would thing the NCHSAA just threw the brackets together.... From all I know and can gather the rules have been out there since before the season started which means that if people really payed attention all the things that happened with the release of brackets could of been predicted long ago.... I’m not saying the system worked to perfection by any means but there was no collusion involved in the making of brackets!!!! There are quite a few things that probably be tweaked but just like March Madness I don’t think either association will EVER make everyone happy

Ha Ha, yeah that is. Figured they’d get Mallard Creek first round. Is this because they are the only 4a and will go playoffs no matter what every year? That’s sorta like AC Reynolds years ago. But they were pretty good every year and still are.
No worries because this thread should really be named South Point vs Shelby in the 2nd round since all discussion is about 2 weeks from now between these two. Maybe Newton shouldn't even show up for the 1st round since its already in the books. Lol

Newton has no chance to win this game. If you don't know just say you don't know. I've seen Newton play Hibriten and Maiden. It's a hail Mary offense with no discipline. You might pull one rabbit out of a hat but not six. Shelby by 35..... I would not waist the gas

Totally agree SHS.....this is a broken system that lacks even an ounce of common sense . Matts team is 4 points away from being 11-0.... it's not fair to either squad .

Up until a few weeks ago the Newton offense was based on the run and the screen game. Their running back got banged up against Hibriten or they would have run him more in the second half. Tough to run on one leg. Unfortunately they won't have that running back in this game, but they have been using a running back by committee system the last few weeks and it has worked pretty well. They still don't just heave it toward the end zone like sprawl is suggesting. You have to play the hand you're dealt. Newton has had a great season and has a chance to beat Shelby. I wouldn't buy your presale tickets for two weeks from now just yet. I think the Red Devils have more talent than you give them credit for.

I honestly feel like this will be a good game. I'm anxious to see Shelby up close and personal and see Dax live and in color (totally off subject but I sure hope he picks VTech instead of UNC where they don't even play defense HAHAHA) In all seriousness though I hope Newton comes ready to play and I know coach Beam will have an extra chip on his shoulder. Maybe I can even get to meet some of the Shelby posters at the game.

Spot on LA , you have to laugh at most of the post about Shelby on both sites . Shelby loses one game to a 2A school in over 4 years and the sky is falling . Look what Shelby accomplished before the streak , and now everyone from topsail to the tip of the mountains would beat Shelby , lol ! My opinion is Shelby will beat Newton and then Shelby will play their best game of the year against South Point to get the attention from the other 2A teams on the drive for 5
Completely agree. The game wasn't the blowout non-Shelby people keep screaming at least imo. We were, however, embarrassed in all phases. But South Point is not a team that is 35-15 better than Shelby. A blocked punt and 3 missed assignments leading to 3 50+ yard runs led to 28 points. I've screamed it all year....the big play is really the only way to score on Shelby. I've also said the only 2A team beating Shelby is Shelby. We made horrendous costly mistakes in that game. It won't happen again.

Do we have to go through revisionist history to be good fans? Shelby got beat down Friday night. If our team doesn't examine the actual reason that happened, it's just going to happen again.

When was the last time they have played each other....have always respected Shelby and their posters...have met a good many at the state games...no matter what happens I will be pulling for the winner of this game throughout the playoffs....I can tell you that there is a beast of a team down here waiting called E Duplin....still believe the state winner comes out of the west...
All this Shelby talks reminds me of all the junk talk Wolves fans dished out last year before getting knocking off by the Rams.

I talked to several SP players. They are very disappointed in the multitude of mistakes that they made on Friday night and are determined to clean up their act through the rest of the playoffs. That game should have been a more complete blowout except for untimely penalties, pitch mistakes, a fumble and allowing an on-side kick. Shelby's only TD's was busted coverage on a screen pass and allowing a 96 yard KO return late in the game. 72 and I both agree that long TD's do not count in football. You have to take away all of the long SP runs (and there were many). SP had multiple runs of 10, 20, and 50 yards. All of those are to be stricken from the stats and we should add up the 3-4 yard runs to truly determine the best team. 72 has brought me to a totally new understanding of the game of football.
Yeah, it sucks that long td plays count as 6 pts. It's ruining the game! Don't get me started on special team tds. They are a travesty!
Im glad Beam isn't scared of Shelby, but it would be nice if he could beat Maiden at some point. Tired of those clowns beating us. We play Shelby once every blue moon, if he wants to own shelby he can go back to Cleveland County. Anyways, I have Newton by a couple. Look for an interesting game.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Newton win by a TD, the lions have no offense for playoff football.
