From ESPN's Big Ten Blog:

"It’s going to be special," Calhoun said. "Growing up in New Jersey, (Rutgers) was one of the bigger universities in my eyes. Like I said, when you come from New Jersey it is Alabama to you. That’s all you know. That’s the university that’s embedded into your heart. I think it’s going to be special."

First time I ever heard anyone compare RU football to the Crimson Tide.

The kid is playing us. No one has ever compared RU FB to the Crimson Tide, ever.

Actually it kind of pisses me off ! lol

Calhoun went to the same high school as me, so it's sorta cool to see him do well, and sorta annoying he passed up Alabama-of-the-Northeast to play for MSU.

He'd be playing for our side tomorrow if he didn't have an outburst during a high school basketball game.

If you followed his recruitment back in 2011 it was between RU and MSU and we cooled on him after an incident at a HS basketball game from what I remember. Seems like he would have liked to be here.

I think it's safe to say him choosing MSU worked out much better than playing for us. He was the typical boom/bust prospect.

He is from Middletown. I have heard people from Monmouth County refer to parts of Howell as Howellbama, so maybe that's the frame of reference.

Do you think that would have been to circumstances, our coaches not being able to coach him up or did he just need out of the area?

He was a basketball player at Middletown North HS, and walked out on his team mid season. There were questions if MSU would pull his scholarship because of this act. They were a very good team that had just beat CBA, and he ruined their season. A good buddy of mine was a teacher and coach at North and said as a basketball player, he was a tough kid to control. I guess his ability as a football player has proven to be NFL caliber.

We'll maybe he did want to come to RU and they backed off of him. Initially, about his comments I thought ...wow that's great that you think that...why aren't you at RU?

Hay watch it there with the Howellbama stuff. I got some very hungry pigs and chickens down here on the farm. I could dispose of you very quietly without a trace left. Down here we don't put you in concrete but we do have some very effective means.:boxing:

The amusing thing is that folks I have heard use that term "Howellbama" are not exactly well-heeled. They say the Howellbama section is next to Bricktucky. I am not making this stuff up. That section of Ramtown/Herberstville/Howell is still pretty rural and wide open. It's beautiful there--close to the reservoir and Allaire State Park.

What does "walked out on his team" mean?

He quit? or had an incident and literally walked off the court?

Yea we're about 5 min. from the reservoir it's pretty rural but we're close to Rt. 9 which has everything. Best of both worlds. We do have a farm and friends who live in the Bricktucky area. It's a running joke in this area we really don't mind. Especially when your looking out your deck at your apple and peach orchard with chickens running around. Also taxes are cheap here on farmland. We have 9 acres for the price of a 1/4 acre plot in some areas of the state. School systems real good to.

I'm a South guy. Seems like you guys have a good team this year, but still not up to our standards.
Norths got a decent squad this year but I doubt they make any noise in the post season or beat south for that matter. The first ever alumni game a couple of months ago was a HUGE success. Should be great moving forward

Yeah North's team seems decent this year. For the first time in over a decade, I think I'll be in Middletown on Thanksgiving and might go to the game.

I'm proud to say I graduated from Middletown class of "71". The last class before the split, so there was no North or South. For the guy who went to South and talked about standards...just be thankful that when they decided on boundaries back when the split was done that they decided to send all the kids from the Hillside section of Atlantic Highlands to South. Otherwise, it would have been North making all the noise all these years.

Not to mention, if they provided their own transportation, they could go to either school.

Don't forget Knowshon Moreno lived by North, but went to South, so the the South standard for a while has been to pull players in from North. Back in the early days (class of 81) North owned South. Our family had grads in 71,75,81,83.

I live right across from the reservoir. Its cool having the farms a mile from my home.
We have a couple friends who live right on west farms rd. next to the reservoir. We love walking around the reservoir with our Great Pyrenees. We actually looked at some houses over there(very nice area/ quiet and scenic) we found a farm on the other side of Rt. 9. The dogs know when they get in the truck where their going and freak out.

Yea not too much to dislike in Farmingdale. Quiet, scenic plus your part of Howell school system We have a couple friends who live in that area by the reservoir. Taxes in this area are very reasonable for NJ standards that is.
