Shouldn't Delany do something about this?

The Minnesota Student Association voted down 36 to 23,a resolution put forth to have a moment of silence on campus for the 9/11 victims in the future stating that "it may create an unsafe space for some".

Why? It's none of his business.

This has literally nothing to do with him, let the school do what they want. Who cares that they don't have a moment of silence, their prerogative

It's a student association at a state school in Minnesota. Let the students figure this one out. Good exercise for them.

Why would the director of the athletic conference care what non-athletes vote to do or not do?

This thing actually has to be a joke right? A moment of silence might create an unsafe space for some? College students, especially the kids who end up on the Student Association, are so stupid.

People have a hard time with this concept. Delany works for the universities in the Big 10, not the other way around.

This is a great country proven by these students who are excersizing thier first amendment rights!
I would just hope they would inform themselves of the sacrifices that were made and huge responsibility it takes to keep it...

This has zero to do with the Big Ten and not something Delaney should or would make a comment on

as weird that the whole PC movement that is all the range is, it has nothing to do with football or sports and it is just a phase.

Watch this season of South Park they are having a TON of fun with it.

The Minnesota Student Association - is a student organization - and has zero authority to make policy - they debate & then vote on a non-binding "resolution" - but it goes nowhere - it is noise.
So what exactly do you propose be done - shall Delany issue his own 'non-binding resolution' making a pronouncement of opinion on a topic that is entirely - entirely outside of his realm of responsibility & authority?

Jim Delany should make a resolution, no notepads allowed on the sideline. That would be interesting

So why have it in the first place?

This is the type of astute political commentary I've come to expect on my sports message boards.

So why have it in the first place?

It is the student government body of the undergrad portion of the University of Minnesota - kind of like student council in high school
... they do have an actual role in certain specific areas of student activities.
But when it comes to concrete University policy - they cannot do anything more than voice opinions.

And as I said - the kind of people who bother to become voting members of the student association (or our student senate) are the kind who are likely to be activists who get worked up about this stuff. You dont go through the motions of getting elected to these things because you dont really have an opinion on the campus causes of the day. As usual, there is probably a some truth in this stuff - but also as usual - students, who almost by definition have no real perspective on things, take it way beyond what reality supports.

Don't pretend you don't care what other states do.

I honestly don't care. I only care about what happens in New jersey since I live here and it effects me. More importantly I care about what happens in the town I live it and the towns that I visit. I just don't have the time to give a damn about what people far away are doing or not doing, more so if it doesn't effect me personally in anyway, whatsoever.
