See? I showed quite a bit of respect for the Springers by predicting a nine point spread.
I just don’t think people realize what Highland Springs has this year compared to last year‘s rebuilding year. You are really looking at two mirror image teams. I give Chambers the slight advantage because they are playing at home, but Highland Springs just finished playing two straight years of real road games(they didn’t have a field at all). This team is far better than the Cardinal gibbons team the chambers played last week, and quite honestly,it’s not even close. I’m honestly not sure how that team beat Chambers even in the rain!

Difficult to tell what a team has when they haven’t played a game. Gibbons was very good last year and will be much better at the end of the year (like last year).

Their second scrimmage was played like a benefit game against a top-five division six school in our state. The only thing that wasn’t live were kick off returns. Highland Springs is the heavy favorite to win division five in Virginia this year. They have two Virginia Tech commits and one UVA commit. All 3 on defense.

I don't know about that last part. Massey favors Cardinal Gibbons by a TD in that match-up even after last week. Pretty far removed from it not even being close.

I think Simmons is closer on this one. Massey has Chambers as a 20 point favorite. I actually think Highland Springs has a good shot at winning because Chambers has lost an awful lot.

The reasons I'm hesitant to pick them:

1. The thing with Highland Springs is they have some talent, but I've watched them lose games they had no business losing e.g. Martinsburg, WV. Not familiar with them enough to know if that's coaching or what. But at times, they haven't looked prepared which doesn't bode well in a tough season opener.

2. This is likely to be Highland Springs most difficult match-up in the regular season, whereas it's realistically Chambers third or fourth hardest. Which is not a big deal aside from the fact Chambers plays that schedule every year. So they're a little more accustomed to being in these games.

3. The game is at Chambers. Honestly expected last year's game to be a bit closer and it was a big deal in Richmond. This time Highland Springs is on the road.

Two good ball teams. Think it will come down to who controls the LOS and takes care of the football which is often the case.

I'm not sure they're heavy favorites. But they are expected to be up there, as they are every year.

No other public school VA team will field 14 D1 players including the 1st team all-state preseason QB. That’s why I say “heavy favorites”,but anything can happen. Having D1s doesn’t mean you’re gonna be a great team. Gotta have good chemistry among them. Didn’t have that last year. Off-season success has been a huge positive coming into this season. Didn’t have ANY off-season workouts before last yr. Hopefully that will be the difference this yr. We shall soon see!
