The kid is ok as a runner. NOT a good, accurate, consistent passer with touch. Will it happen? Juries out.
Vs Indy I thought he made strides in his running game.. well, I mean his scrambling game. He seemed to finally get teh idea that when you decide to get out of a situation do it like the place suddenly caught fire.. move those feet quickly... no more of these casual long strides.. quick short steps under control where you can adjust quickly.
But today he seemed to have lost some of that. Still did well with legs... but he loses yards because he leans/dives too early. he dives forward to avoid hits but he takes hits anyway.. so keep the legs chopping at first contact.. don't anticipate contact and dive.. anticipate making them miss and when you get hit roll with it.. keep the legs chopping. That star RB in the backfield does it every damn time. Learn from him. If he is a running QB.. let him work with teh running backs awhile.. I cannot imagine the RB coach being okay with how he finishes runs. He has lost at least half a dozen first downs like that over the last 3 games or so.
I like GW.. I think he can get there. You can't teach that arm.. but hopefully you can teach the footwork needed to be consistent.
We are a bowl team with GW... but if he improves as he should.. we could have won today and then we'd be talking scenarios where we could play in the Big Ten Championship game. I think he can get there... BUT...
GW's running made little difference in this game. His passing made a negative difference.. at least in the first half. We'd have been better off with a more accurate pocket passer who doesn't run.. like the guy on the other side, McCord, who is a Rutgers legacy who wanted to come to Rutgers.. at least at one point. We chased off pocket passers with the last OC... but had we taken a good one years ago we might have won today.
