He's gotta have a new name by game day.
My suggestion: Lil Cocky.
Alternate suggestion: Bojangle (singular, not plural)

There's an article linked here: https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/drama-over-sir-big-spur-poll.403111/Dare I even ask why he has to change his name?
Another example of people need something to argue about ( the owners that is). Those people need a damn life. I can’t wait till they stand at the pearly gates, I’m sure the question will be did you two ever get that comb situation figured out on that chickenThere's an article linked here: https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/drama-over-sir-big-spur-poll.403111/
Basically the old owners object to the new owners letting the rooster keep it's comb. New owners say comb is necessary to keep the animal cool. Old owners say gamecocks have combs removed. Old owners own the name, and they decided not to let the new owners use it.
nothing like a good pi$$ing contest a week & a half before the 1st game of the season. There's an article linked here: https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/drama-over-sir-big-spur-poll.403111/

This can't be good. The University will own the new name. The University will choose the name, not a fan vote or the current owners.

USC plans to own rights to new name of Gamecocks' live rooster mascot
The live rooster that travels to South Carolina football games as its unofficial mascot does not yet have a new name, but knows what it won't be called.www.postandcourier.com
Pretty funny overall story.
Paywall? I still don't understand why it is necessary to come up with a new name. Did anyone "own" the Sir Big Spur name? This can't be good.

I didn't even click the link, but the AD picking the name can't be good. They'll screw it up some how.Paywall? I still don't understand why it is necessary to come up with a new name. Did anyone "own" the Sir Big Spur name?

No, not a one. This will be their first ever.Has the AD made previous bad decisions?
Yes, Ron & Mary trademarked Sir Big Spur, and allowed the continued use when Beth & Van took over.Oh, weird. Wasn't a paywall for me.
Apparently the original owners had a 5 year contract that allowed the University to use the name, but that expired 8/1. I don't know if they've officially trademarked it or what. Not sure how that works. But a University rep said they would not able to use Sir Big Spur or even Big Spur b/c of legal ramifications.

It was probably done to protect it from being used by another or others making money off SBS without R&M's knowledge/endorsement.Gotcha. Seems like a weird thing to trademark, but I guess they're passionate about it.
I'm leaning towards "Little Jerry" myself. Wasn't "Big Spur" actually the name of one of our mascots before Cocky? Here are a couple of pics to jog some of y'alls memories.Commander Spur
Captain Spur
Biggus SpurrusIf the school is coming up with the name it will be one of
Sir of Big Spur
or
Sir Big of Spur

Without being able to use that we aren't left with much. Maybe the family that trademarked it wanted a big payout from the school and USC aint having it?
How about Rowdy? He's gotta have a new name by game day.
