I grew up reading SI and couldn't wait for the next issue to arrive. Writers like Rick Reilly, Ralph Wiley, and Rick Telander were great journalists. Today I only glance at a month-old SI while waiting in my doctor's office. It's become nothing more than a rag.

I’m gonna assume it’s given to whoever causes the biggest ruckus, like when Time named Hitler Person of the Year

made the game secondary to the person wanting all the attention.
What Deion was doing for the game ended when he made the game about himself..

The pubster's take from a distance is that Deion is just an egomaniac who only cares about himself and getting inflated stats for Shedeur (who has a broken bone in his back).

But all the people that are close to him - including his teammates - say that when they had a problem Deion was the first guy to contact them. He was/is also known as a prodigious worker who was actually quiet in practices. Deion is first guy to tell people that "Prime" is a creation - a prop. Its WWF and rap (heavily based on 80s wrestling). Troops dont respond to a weakly blown bugle.

Colorado was going broke with a sports scene that wasn't getting any money from football. Deion rescued the school with the millions that poured-in immediately. The stadium filled, the season tickets soldout and Buff's had 4 on the top ten viewed games prior to last week. CFB had a record season for viewers and Colorado was a main reason for that.

Nobody following the story cares about only 4 wins (3 more than last year). Aside from a couple blowouts (one when Travis Hunter was in hospital) Buff's were in most games (almost beat USC). Deion's big mistake was letting team get carried away with GameDay and and all the celebs. The team thought they were on a magic carpet and then teams targeted them hard (Col State, Oregon in particular). Then they had injuries and nobody could block or run well. A 195lb saftey was playing MLB.

Prime was actually pissed off his OC was having Shedeur try to throw long on every play when they had no blocking for short passes nevermind long ones. Shedeur was getting killed.

Personally I find a lot of coaches boring, overrated and overrpaid. Guys like Fisher and Sweeney get lucky with some recuits for a few years and then they get 90 million contracts? Its crazy. Would Fisher, Sweeney or even Schiano have Colorado making millions after a few months? Nobody else could do what Sanders did.

While he was doing it I saw him answer a quadrapeligic fan posting on FB at 2AM. Nobody answers fans on FB but Prime wanted to offer any help after the woman was posting how she realized Prime must be hurting on his sore feet all the time. That's who he is behind all the pimping

Hey, he led his team to the second-most penalties in FBS football. That's sportsmanship!

The main penalty for Buffs was false starting.
Blocking below the waist was also big.
This is what can happen when you cant block well and the QB is son of the coach. Need some extra sauce just somtimes lol

Seems sexist to me to call the award sports”MAN” of the year, gender shaming at a minimum I thought Lia Thomas was the front runner but I guess these things happen

Another example of teaching good sportsmanship to those closest to him.
Forget the helmet to the jaw ( the last replay you see it clear as day) but the posing and flexing crap after. Surprised that he wasn't flagged twice.

At this point, I think we or most of us have figured out you are going to just continue the troll instead of just admit you were wrong.

Still doesn’t have anything on the UVA quarterback flexing his way to an L

Oh I'm sorry - pardon me while I wipe a tear from my glass eye.
Please convey my sentiments to the "others"

Thought I saw sanders lost two highly rated qb recruits in the last week or so. Seems the kids are starting to figure it out. Deion would suggest they aren’t loyal to their girlfriends either right? I think it’s more that they don’t want to end up with a broken back like sodor.

Deion -Sportsman?
Comes in as HC- boots every single player off the team and essentially out of college.
Bring in a group of mercenaries.
Win the first few games and even he says he is the greatest and brought in the best players and going to compete
Lose the first few games and the players are all at fault
Lose a few more and players will be replaced again and fires the 1 actual coach he has
Everything after those first few wins was not on him and all n the previous players/coaches, current players(except for his sons) and the coaches...

Sportsmanship my F-ing ***
I'm dumbfounded he won this. Are we being pranked?

Not me
Often times these things are a popularity contest
Clicks and quotes over substance
Prime excels in that area
Although to his credit, he usually backs it up (not this year odviously, but I wouldn’t bet against him getting things right in Boulder)

magazine went to ****

still remember the commercial where kevin greene had bledsoe wrapped up and you can hear Lloyd saying, 'keep him up, keep him up' as he comes in to hammer him! loved it

swimsuit edition used to be good but no magazine was better than Playboys' girls of the BE though.

Deion winning again

Gets people to talk about him, good or bad, and will undoubtely use it to his advantage

The man is a tireless self promoter, and the old adage of “no press is bad press” continues to ring true
Yup! People love em, but more than that, people LOVE TO HATE HIM. And that second group has turned out to be oddly and increasingly unhinged about it

Couple of more good candidates that came up on Boomer and Gio this morning: Djokovik and Messi.

To me Erin Matson is the coach who should have received it. UNC Field Hockey

iMO the obvious choice was Olivia Dunne.
You know what? That's not a bad call. She kind of sums up the new face of sports.

I also like Bochy and Caitlin Clark as better option than Prime. But out of all of these people, I think Prime will sell the most magazines/get the most clicks. And we all know that's really what this is about.

Dunne's in the '24 swimsuit edition. It's all about the clicks.

“Unhinged”? That’s an odd take. Do you have examples? Obviously, there are no examples in this thread.

Perhaps the award should be renamed...

"Persons (or Horses) we can justify putting on the cover to sell the most copies AWARD"
