In the SMC, JV is 7th, 8th and 9th grades. There is no middle school football, per se.

Technically speaking, there is no JV football, and 7th, 8th, and 9th grades play "junior high" football. Everybody just calls it JV, but it's actually subject to the rule limitations of middle school ball, so they can only play 7 games and can't move players back and forth with the varsity. 7th graders can also play in the local youth league.

ALL 10th graders play Varisty which is a good thing for the SMC. Its the only way we have enough kids to make a team. What I don't like about it is our JVs cant play any games outside the SMC, so our season is 6 games. I think we need to play 2 more games within the SMC. It would help the kids.

Interesting. Never knew any of this. I was under the assumption most 1A schools just didn't field 9th and 10th grade junior varsity because of school's ADM.

Are 9th grade junior high school kids allowed to play up with the high school?

It actually work out well .. The very small 7th graders can play youth ball . The jv league is a good one but don't play a ton of games. It helps the varsitys numbers and after 6 weeks freshman move up to varsity to help depth. Only negative I see is your below average Soph Usually end up not playing which cuts out a couple of kids.

Amazes me what 1A/1AA coaches can do without true JV teams and such small enrollment. Tough coaching job because you know kids will need to go both ways to win games. Didn't Mike Byus coach at Robbinsville before going to East Lincoln? If so what was his record like there? Man is one hell of a coach and organizer.

I found Mike Byus' record. Not good first two years. Then won 9,10,and 11 games. Robbinsville has very high expectations but here that is really good records in the last three years. Did Byus pass a lot while at Robbinsville like at East Lincoln?

A small school like R'ville don't ever have enough skill players to run an offence like he tried to run. I don't like what football is evolving into with the spread offence. That goes against what mountain football is all about
