This would be badass on countless levels. He knows the position inside and out, apparently coaches his *** off at camps, and could recruit the lights out.

I'd also enjoy his post game interviews.

Oh and I am hearing that him working on a degree might be sufficient for any degree concerns.

Maybe he could help them with thier school work or........

Teach them how to talk proper smack. Maybe I needed a little help with spelling.

It does need to happen. If there is any way possible for this to happen, then we need to get it done. It's a win-win on so many levels.

Is Tee Martin necessarily that great of a position coach? Does it matter? He recruits! It would be so awesome to send a Rolls Royce to an in-house visit.

best post in a while

And Stansbury owns the lake. Imagine the possibilities.

all we can do is laugh....at least this post was strong, well stated.

Mullen needs to step up and handle some of these end of season recruiting situations or find someone to do that and then stay the hell out of his way. To half-*** it is killing us. CJ Johnson kicked our *** this year. Poor showing.

Mullen can't prevent us from losing assistant coaches who are kids' primary recruiters.... especially kids who are on the fence to begin with.

He has already taken as many precautions on this as he possibly can after the Hud/Diaz debacle crippled us. There is no longer single coaches recruiting players. Each "area" has a primary coach responsible for it that initiates contact -- once the offer is on the table, their position coach also begins actively recruiting them daily -- and coordinators/Mullen keep in touch as well. Sometimes the secondary recruiter takes over when it's clear that he has a better relationship with the player than the primary guy. It doesn't prevent you from taking a hit when an assistant leaves, but it is about as much as he can possibly do to prevent this type of thing.

I can still virtually guarantee you that whoever we hire as a replacement will be better for the program in the long run than Melvin was currently. That's what we need to focus on here.

How do we prevent this problem longterm? We bring in Hud -- and call home the native sons that are actively wanting to get back -- and that consider MSU their dream jobs. Smoot and Moulds being the first two that come to mind.

Seems that the concept of character as opposed to characters should be part of the equation when selecting coaches

You serious, Clark?

Sure, Smoot's made a couple bad decisions, namely the Love Boat. But I'd hazard to say pretty much all of us have made some ****** decisions. Prior to that incident, I don't recall Smoot ever being labeled as a guy with character issues. I know I'd hate to be a professional athlete today. You've got a 24/7 news cycle and cell phone cameras everywhere. **** like that went on all the time, the only difference now is the ability for it to go public so easily.

I'd love to have Smoot on staff. He was a hell of a corner and apparently coaches his *** off at our camps. And I can't imagine anyone being a better talker, and thus recruiter, than him. Plus, he'd bring an intensity and swagger to the D that we're sorely lacking right now, thanks to Chris Wilson.

I wish my bad decisions involved a sex boat.

Smoot as DB coach needs to happen

This guy loves MSU, has pro experience, and knows inner city Jackson well. Smoot has proven that he is a good coach at MSU summer camps and he is a very hard worker. JPS usually produces at least a couple of solid players a year, and that is one of the few areas of the state where we could use an upgrade.

Yeah but the Dark Lord Freeze will surely use the Sex Boat scandal against you, and I doubt that will go over well with mom and grandma.

I doubt Freeze would want to go too far on that kind of stuff with Fred Smoot... You know what they say about skeletons in a closet -- and I'd be willing to bet Fred would be less likely to sit by and passively take it than most.

Thing about Fred is -- he has $25 mil in the bank. He saved his money. He doesn't have to work for 5 lifetimes. Does his love for MSU -- and competition -- outweight this when he's working 18 hour days in Starkville, MS...missing his lush pad in Buckhead?

If he decides he wants to come back, I would certainly, CERTAINLY love to have him. Never met a more charismatic guy -- and trust me he would do just fine with the mothers based on how I've witnessed him fraternizing with average fans when he comes back to Starkville. What about the actual recruits that watch him pull up to their house in a Rolls on 22s?

I don't think Freeze wants to get into a smack war with Smoot. Unless he enjoys being royally embarrassed.
