Am I wrong about the assistant coaches contracts expiring on June 30th? We could be looking at a completely new staff.......UNLESS the university hires Erik Martin.

Erik Martin is not going to the next HC. He is retiring as well. Nothing says they can't be rehired if interim guy is hired.

If they clean house it will play out bad for the first season.

Eirk Martin is retiring? He just got the head coaching job at South Carolina State last year. And he's pretty young (52 years old). Geez.

Pretty talented, experienced team coming back. Great facilities, great fans and a decent salary in a good conference!

Should be quite a few candidates!

I'm thinking the next coach will come from a non-power 5 team or ties. I'm thinking:

Dusty May - Florida Atlantic
Pat Kelsey - College of Charleston
Preston Spradlin - Morehead State
Bob Richey - Furman
Greg McDermott - Creighton
Matt Langel - Colgate

Andy Kennedy is #1 on the short list of early picks.
He or Frank Martin probably are the only proven coaches who would be attainable at this stage of the hiring cycle, but I really hope we don’t go the route of chasing random Huggins disciples, unless for some reason Mick Cronin wanted the job.

I want to see the University pursue a coach who is completely different than what Huggins was in terms of personality and playing style. Trying to chase the past has always been a losing strategy when a legend leaves, we have to let a new guy come in and make the program his own.

We will go with a younger coach. Probably from a mid-major level. Call the guy from Florida Atlantic.

That is the saddest list I’ve heard. This administration has been shooting low for the past 5 years so it’s probably accurate.

This late in the game I think they're going to try for a "home run" hire. If you don't get that stick to an interim coach for a year who can possibly hold what they already have here.

You can get a mid-major coach anytime. Don't jump in, give a big salary, and then regret when a home run coach comes available at the end of next year.

Why don't you donate once in your life and help support WVU sports instead of low IQ ramblings on a message board....

These "sad" guys all have better resumes than Beilein did when we hired him. I'd also include Tobin Anderson, who's career trajectory is a lot like Beilein's. Anderson moved from FDU to Iona to replace Pitino, but I don't think we'd have any trouble poaching Iona's coach if we wanted to go that route.

Very short list for "home runs".

1. Jay Wright
2. Joe Mazzulla

But there are a lot of doubles out there.
Joe M still has some things to prove and hasnt coached in college, so I would not call him home run yet, but pretty close. Wright would be a home run.

I just want Huggins to finish out his career at WVU if we cant get someone totally legit. Fk all this tbh. Andy Kennedy? Come-on man....

I think it would be best at this point to hire an interim coach within the staff and ride the wave at this point. After Huggs gets out of rehab in a couple months he will be coming out of retirement anyway. We may as well sign him back before anyone else does.

Might as well ask Calipari. He hasn't won a natty in over a decade and didn't even go to the dance in 20 and 21. Kentucky fans want to move on to a real winner! :>)

I was actually thinking we might have a shot at Cal, but not until next offseason. No way UK let’s him go without their own home run hire lined up.

Joe just signed with Celtics (three years and $14 million as interim. Boston also agreed to a contract extension with Mazzulla, and although the terms weren't disclosed, it's a clear sign that the Celtics have cut ties with Udoka and are ready to move forward with Mazzulla.)

Jay Wright will not be here.

I believe they're going to clean house and start with permanent staff already. It's why Mazulla and Ganzy spoke to the team on coaching changes.

He asked who would be “home runs”. I never said either would even entertain the thought.

Don't care what you said or meant. I replied.
Ok. Don’t care either. You are the one that’s bouncing all over the place with your predictions. One thread it’s “interim coach and retain coaching staff” and another it’s “permanent hire and new staff”. You could be a politician.
