So Rick Ray gets a cool million a year coaching like that

Where do I sign up for some of that action? I believe I could do at least that good, and I really don't know crap about basketball!

Believe me you know as much about basketball as Scott Stricklin does about being an AD.

Stricklin said in an interview we did with him - a new coach has a 3 year plan/window.

Year 1 - Effort
Year 2 - Improve
Year 3 - Win

We were on pace in Year 2 to improve but we have taken steps back in the past month. Could be due to lack of depth, lack of talent, lack of coaching, or all of the above.

Good, I'm glad he realizes that.

My guess is he will give RR 4 years. The only way that won't happen is if we win less than 10 games next year. But if do really suck next year, Sticklin will be feeling the hot seat too if he keeps RR for another year.

I would like to believe that most reasonable fans were on board with that progress plan, but I think the problem right now is that the Year 2 portion of the plan to "Improve" is highly debatable at this point. Yes, we're 13-11 this year as opposed to 10-22 last season, but our SOS is 176th this year as opposed to 112 last season. It's the easiest one in the conference by a very wide margin. On top of that, it's really hard to say whether there's been any individual improvement either. Some like Fred seem to even have regressed, and of course Ray's very weak recruiting isn't doing much to provide a light at the end of the tunnel.

There's no doubt in my mind that Ray's getting a minimum of one more year, but if Stricklin is truly expecting wins next year, my feeling is that next season will be Ray's last.

Believe me that when Scott looked around and saw ~ 2000 people in the Hump for our ESPN game against #3 Florida, he's already started to feel it. Losing is one thing, but that was nothing short of embarrassing for both the program and university

Biggest difference ...

We were on pace in Year 2 to improve but we have taken steps back in the past month. Could be due to lack of depth, lack of talent, lack of coaching, or all of the above.

At this point in the second year the BIGGEST difference in year one and two is our major downgrade in OOC schedule. Most thought we were improving this year because we started 10-3 in the OOC schedule and were 3-2 after five games in the SEC.

Last year we were 10-22 for the year, 4-14 in the SEC and 6-8 in OOC . Currently we are 13-11, 3-8 in the SEC and 10-3 in OOC.

With 7 games left (3 @ home), Ray does still have a chance to show improvement over last year's SEC record ... but not if they play like they did last night.

Ray doesn`t have to have a great record to recruit well but recruits damn sure need to perceive that the program is heading in the right direction. At the rate he`s going now that`s going to be a harder and harder sell. That`s about become a big issue IMO.

Yeah. Nothing can get a couch fired like empty seats. That's an even bigger coach killer than losing is.

Strictly looking at RPI, we have improved this year. Last year our RPI was #230. Currently, it's #166. I think next year, Ray's going to need to get that down into the 100-120 range if he wants to keep his job.

I think Scott made that 3 year plan up to justify RR to fans, because all people were able to say last year was "Effort!" Really it would be hard to not improve from last year (depending on your measure of improvement, we aren't), so what was he really getting at? If he doesn't win in year 3 he's fired? Calling BS.
