He did exactly what he should have and went out on his own. Huge hit for WTVA. I’m immediately going to his site when weather breaks out.

He has a site with a button to follow him live on YouTube.

This the result of that guy from Georgia (or there abouts) buying that group of stations?
I thought they got that, all worked out.

They did because of a huge backlash, but I assume Matt is smart and knew it’s only a matter of time until they got him for real. He has a huge following and struck while the iron is hot. I have saved his link on my phone and will open him up on the TV YouTube app when weather hits. He’s fantastic at what he does.

So I don’t have to listen to him every time the weather gets bad?!?!

I'm sure you know the routine. Bad weather get posted over 30 percent of you screen, during sporting events.
Yep. I honestly don’t watch live tv much but Matt got on my nerves just from watching a few clips.

Seemed like he was good at his job and passionate but odd to me that grown men and women get so upset about a weatherman on tv.

Good for him. Allen Media thought he wasn't necessary and it took a revolt from viewers for Allen to reinstate him.

Allen is about to see what happens when they 17 around with local meteorologists.

Seeing lots of NMSC cameras on Matt's furst YouTube stream. Great job @Hugh's Burner Phone and the rest of your crew. Impressive how many y'all have put up in a relatively short amount of time. These cameras will save lives.

  • Byron Allen is looking to sell his group of broadcast TV stations, in a bid to reduce his company’s debt load.
  • Allen Media Group owns and operates 28 broadcast TV stations in 21 markets, which are affiliated with ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox.
Last year, CNBC reported that Allen Media Group had been consistently late in making payments to its network owners, in some cases as much as 90 days past due, with the payments totaling tens of millions of dollars throughout the year. The reason for the lateness had been unclear, and representatives for Allen Media Group declined to address the details of CNBC’s reporting.

Local broadcast news is a dying industry, with most viewers being Gen X or Boomers. Of those, many viewers primarily tune in for the weather, and they form relationships with their local meteorologists, and local meteorologists go out and do things in the community.

Allen wants to centralize a location (ex. Atlanta) that gives weather updates for every Allen station across the country. Imagine tuning in to WTVA, and your weather is being presented by a guy who has never even stepped foot in the state of MS and is broadcasting from 6+ hours away. That's what Allen's end goal is. It saves a buck for them.

I think what he is saying is that of the 36 people that watch WTVA 27 are watching because of the weather forecast. The weather guy left and the 27 people are gonna stop watching. Ergo reducing viewership to 9. Must be working already as he is trying to unload his ownership. Viva la revolution

He and Gabe have left WTVA and have started their own 24 hour weather site on YouTube at Mississippi Live Weather. He will start with a primary focus on the northern half of the state and then, as he able, expand to the rest of the state.

How will they get paid? Will it be a pay site or what? I don't believe he would leave a paying job and work for less

Matt’s becoming the Official SPS Meteorologist. When a thread gets out of hand and **** starts flying, he will break in and take over a thread until it’s safe for us peons to start posting again. It’s really a much needed public service.

He said sponsorships at first and that severe weather coverage would always be free. I assume they’ll have some kind of subscription levels on the app eventually

But a lot will probably be same as any of these YouTubers get paid.

Dave Brown up in Memphis one year, maybe in the Fall, predicted a precipitation free day on the day his daughter was to be wed. Rained that day and affected the wedding. Man drove up to the station, walked right in and punched ole Dave in the nose for missing the forecast. True story, well sorta……

Sponsors and monetizing his page. I have no idea what he made at WTVA and I have no idea what kind of income stream he is projecting doing this.

Wrapit literally answered your question. Allen is barely solvent as it is. When they tried to cut their local mets before, there was a huge backlash. There's no path forward for them if they can't find a buyer, and that path is much shorter when they run off their viewers who, as arnept said, only watch the news for the weather.

He saved my neighbors life and was close on me and the Mrs near Amory. Two years ago this past March we were watching storms cross the Ms river. When it hit Rolling Fork I started to pay attention. When it crossed I55 and hit Duck Hill I started to get concerned. When Matt said that it would cross Hwy45 at the intersection of a county road I can see from my front yard, I got in a closet the first time in the 36 years I’ve lived here. Neighbors had walls of three rooms left standing, no roof at all. Luckily they didn’t have a scratch. I’m the first one to make fun of Matt when he gets his panties in a wad over a thunderstorm but he does excellent work and North Ms is lucky to have him.

We ended our partnership with WTVA and have joined with Matt. Excited to see things take off and what we can do. He's poured his heart and soul into this venture.

And a shameless plug...if any of you are business owners and would like to be a sponsor of our cameras, shoot me an email at [email protected]. All money goes towards the upkeep and expansion of our Skycam.

He has the backing of numerous local businesses to advertise. He already has the cash on hand to purchase one of the best radar systems out there.

I am guessing he will eventually make more money being on his own because he gets 100% of all funds. Additionally, he will have significantly less overhead. I would think this brings more funding for the Mississippi Storm chasers.
