Bottom line is that MSU is a tough job, it could be rewarding but it is a tough gig, same goes for Ole Miss. Neither are easy jobs. You have a small state with two and half football schools in your state, and two of them happen to be in the SEC. To your west you have the 2007 national champions, to your east you have one of the best 5 coaches in college football, as well as an AU program that is very solid.
On top of that you have rabid fan bases that just fired a coach one year removed from being SEC coach of the year. If you are a successful mid major program I would be looking for an easier gig in the ACC, Big Ten, Big XII North, because the SEC West is ridiculous.
With the amount of money GB is throwing around any OC at any big time school would be an idiot not to take a strong look at MSU, the question would be how many other openings will they have a chance to take?
The question that you have to ask yourself though is whether or not OC at extremely talented schools that have great offenses actually predicts success at a school that will not bring in the type of talent that Florida and Oklahoma brings in every year. Personally, I would want a coach that has proven to do more with less, that can create matchups to his advantage and exploit that matchup. At OK and FL you can exploit every matchup you want because Florida has a track team at RB/WR and a cross between Chuck Norris/Jack Bauer/Chewbacca at QB, and OK has an NFL offensive line with a stud QB, and a RB tandem in Murray/Brown that is ridiculous.
