7-8 games with the right schedule. Unfortunately, we didn't have that schedule last year or this year, but we should have 6 or more wins in 2010.

I want Mullen to spend like he has his own printing press. I'm not excusing anything. He is accountable just like all the other coaches
Where's Nick Turner when you need him? Coach34, you are a big LSU guy, surely you know someone close to Billy Cannon.

1. Tim Floyd quits after being accused of handing one of his players 2 grand
2. Alabama offers Albert Means 200K
3. How many athletes you see on campus from low income areas driving nice vehicles?
4. Marcus Johnson's motherof Coffeeville, after his signing with Mississippi, suddenly sports a brand new car and gives her older one to Marcus and Belton for them to go to Oxford in. 2 car family on a convenience store worker's salary. Marcus hadnt seen his father since he was 9 years old- so no help there. Marcus also told me how on his recruiting visit Romaro Miller gave him 200.00 to help carry in the liquor from someone's car for the big party they hosted for them.
5. AAU programs from low income areas traveling all over the US to play basketball

With millions at stake now each season, you can damn well bet this big business of college athletics is funneling money to places that ensure success.

I know whats going on out there...point of this is that I dont think we are playing it at the maximum level. Thats all. We are playing blackjack at the 25 dollar table when everybody else is at the 100 dollar table

I couldn't agree more. Everybody bitches about us not getting the marque players, well, you have to look at the conference we live in. Alabama's budget is nearly 5 times as big as ours. They've got a waiting list for season tickets-do we? We may sell out this year, but we must live we are the "Peoples University".

See responses above. The fact that 2 of your factual statements resulted in firing of coaches and/or sanctions issued (at 2 of the most powerful schools in the NCAA nonetheless) contributes nothing to the argument that cheating is tolerated. If cheating were the standard price of admission for recruits, then why did Alabama off all places get nailed for it? If there was a protectionist environment, these events would be swept under the rug.

Again, hearsay and speculation fuels these thoughts, not anything real.

"If cheating were the standard price of admission for recruits, then why did Alabama off all places get nailed for it? If there was a protectionist environment,"

Tennessee turned them into the NCAA. SEC schools are no longer allowed to do that. Everything must be turned into the SEC office first. You dont think its a coincidence that the SEC had 4 schools on probation or recently on probation when Slive started, and now suddenly schools just keep getting secondary infractions?
I mean Marcus's mom cant suddenly afford a new car working at a convenience store. The kid walks home everyday from school, and then a week after he signs, he's driving momma's new Grand Am? Not to mention Marcus getting a new wardrobe after signing. And believe me, a 6'6, 330 pound kid in Coffeeville with new clothes stands out in C'ville.

I hate to play the naive card, but you really are.

means not buying into conspiracy theories and internet rumors about a poor kid in Coffeeville and his new Air Force Ones and interpreting it into some large scale recruit bidding war, fine, I'm the most naive MFer on the planet. I'm okay with that too.

If this is true, and Slive is fostering some sort of environment where SEC schools aren't allowed to turn each other in for cheating, he's the most naive person in the entire situation. The SEC doesn't operate in a bubble. There are plenty of folks that would love to tear down the SEC given the chance.

conspiracy / "everyone is cheating theorists" is comical. For as long as there have been internet message boards, there have been and will continue to be anonymous posters who claim they heard this or that about paying for players. Sure, they "heard" it because someone started it without any foundation whatsoever.

Are there occasionally deep-pocket boosters who involve themselves in illegal recruiting. Of couse. Logan Young was a prime example, but the outcome of that situation surely scared away the few who would become involved in activity of that type. The same goes for the rare coach, e.g., Floyd and the $1,000 admission. However, to believe that any coach any where throws around $350k is ludicrous. You would literally believe anything, if you believe that.

If this activity was commonplace among coaches, how easy would it be to entrap anyone making an offer. It is so easy to record anyone on the telephone or even face to face that it would be child's play. The penalty for any coach getting caught in such activity is sure, permanent death penalty for the coach as he would be swiftly fired with no chance of employment anywhere else. One would think a rival coach would have absolutely not problem setting up a simple sting operation against an opponent. Yet, this has never happened?

No, I agree with the above poster. It is simply a simple matter of rationalization to claim big money is being thrown around when in reality 99.9% of recruits make their decision based upon their like or dislike of a coach or institution.

doesn't mean it's not going on.. I know 100% that it does go on all the time.. I could give specific examples that I have personal knowledge of (guys who have played at MSU and mississippi, some of whom went on to the pros) but Iwon't. I have personally had great nights out on the town in Oxford and didn't spend a dime of my own money.. and neither did anybody I was with. Maybe it wasn't coaches personally but it was DEFINITELY boosters.. and if you think that 99.9% number is correct, you're living inanother world

There is no question we are not at the high stakes table and that is being proven right now. I am not sure the 350k is correct on Cecil but an MSU coach told me the asking price was ridiculous. I have no doubt Sanders is after the same deal Patterson got and MSU knows it but Slive has had that info and nothing is being done. The rich will get richer and the system is worst now than it ever has been.

Do most athletes at most schools get treated to nights out on the town, free meals, etc. by boosters? Of course they do. That is not what the discussion is about. The question is whether recruits are paid thousands and thousands of dollars to go to a particular school. Again UCantStop15, you are a prime example that feeds the gullibility of the masses when you state, "I could give specific examples, but I won't." Of course you won't because you can't, but some gullible doofus out there will say it happened because you said it did and the cycle repeats itself.

The thing is, I don't think anyone really believes it, including you. I believe people make these ridiculous claims because it makes them feel better and gives them a reason, however false, for losing out on a recruit. Fans are so nonobjective concerning their particular schools, that they will never believe they were rejected for some mundane reason such as the depth chart or geography.
