They play it all the time in Oxford.

Dixie has never been the problem. It is From Dixie with Love that had the questionable ending. They changed that ending and play it as well now after being shut down for a season.

What is From Dixie with Love? Never heard of that.

It's a slower tempo medley of Dixie and The Battle Hymn of the Republic. A couple of years ago it was banned because the students replaced "his truth is marching on" with "the south will rise again".

I seem to recall that the Famous Maroon Band played "Dixie" at most home games when I was a student back in the mid-1960s.
Hatred of it seems to be tied to "political incorrectness."
When are we ever going to outgrow that? Are we going to be mired in that paradigm forever?

Really? My dislike of 'Dixie' is because it's tied closely to Ole Miss. I've mentioned it before here but many years ago when I was a student at the academy I attended, the headmaster asked me why I didn't stand up when Dixie was played at the pep rally (yep, my alma mater's mascot was also the Rebels) & I said that I didn't stand up for an Ole Miss song.

The few times I went to an Egg Bowl in Oxford I would shout "Go to hell Ole Miss" when they did that. It actually syncs up nicely.
