Son of a gun. The spike wasn't the game killer though.

Not much more could have been done. The spike was dumb but not the game killer, a hail Mary from that distance would be a miracle. The defense played well but just could not stop that last drive. :-(

Refs stunk, let a ton of MichSt holding go all night and of course those 2 intentional grounding non-calls, particularly that 2nd one was a killer. I think Michigan thumps 'em next week-B1G refs won't protect Sparty in that game.

We were out matched but our coaches came up with schemes and kids played believing. Last time we played like this was when Schiano was here.

I think that McDaniels did a very good job tonight. I need to re-watch it to be sure, but I thought it was one of the best O-coord games I've seen at RU. And the players were executing well for much of it.

It was the 3rd and nine pass that was the killer. After that play I knew RU was not going to win the game.

The real point is that we were actually in this game from the beginning to the end. Our real defect is our inability to stop the pass. We are just too soft on coverage and don't seem to be too inclined to take many chances. The fact that we got only our second int. for the season (and it took a great play to do it!) speaks volumes.
Both the MSU QB and that receiver beat us pretty much by themselves. Our D played great otherwise.

This may be a first. I agree with every post (above) in this thread.

This game show what's possible when RU can get out of its own way by cutting the unforced errors. I kinda throw out that spike play. It was not the deciding factor in this game.

How many passes did they complete where our defender was right there?
Very few breakups of the receptions.
On the last series the sack was the inexcusable play.
I hate the first play spike.
Why is there not an automatic play in that situation?
The entire squad knows and runs a play without any extra time off the clock,
or at most an extra second or two
and maybe moves the ball further down the field

I didn't like targeting the TE 3 of first 4 passes after MSU TD at end of game. 2 over middle. Only time to WR was big gain to Patton. This situation need to go to your big players ie carroo and let the chips fall where they may. I would have even preferred a slant or screen to grant. Don't know if those passes were planned that way or if laviano checked into them.
