A few things...
No support for external hard drives. None... Cant watch the 3TBs of movies I have stored... Nothing. Try to stream from my PC (since its a Windows Media Center) aaaaaaand no support for that either. Im pissed...

Go to download a few demos and see what the graphics look like. Im 2 1/2 hours in and only 75% downloaded on Dead Rising... PISSED!

My 360 worked a hellova lot better than this thing.

The TV passthrough thing IS nice, if I had to say something positive about this thing...

I talked to someone at Microsoft tech support and they assured me that external harddrive support would be coming... Still... I feel gypped.

I didnt see that non option being brought up. That feature works well with my 360... Why not have the same feature ready to go on launch?

Always wait a year or two into the new cycle to buy a new console. All the things that made people freak the **** out the first few months of a new systems roll out gets fixed.

Good games don't really ever come out at the same time as new consoles anyways. Plus the prices will drop.

It took a couple years before the 360 didn't suck. I kinda assumed the 1 would be the same way at first. I imagine it will be awesome once they get the bugs worked out.

For the price that is ridiculous...but the PS4 doesn't even support MP3 files

I don't think the price will drop for a while. Around 2014 is when a lot of bugs and other features should be rolling out for both systems. For me though.. I'd have to go with the PS4 if I were to buy one and only one of the consoles.

The $100 difference is because you don't get the option for the Kinnect. When you buy Sony's equivalent they're the same price.

Give me Microsoft all day. They reached for some stuff they wanted to help their business model, and fans revolted. They were fixed. Say what you want about Microsoft but they hear their costumer base a lot better than any other tech brand seems to. Never buy a first gen in anything.

... I just picked up a 4GB 360 for $150. They're supporting it with live and games for another 3 years. I'd love to have a One but that's a lot of money for something I'd be lucky to spend 30 minutes a day on.

The PS4 with the camera is still $40 cheaper than the One with the Kinect. Pulling hairs here, but just felt like getting that out there.

I am screwed if my kids end up liking game consoles. My brothers loved them and my college roommates too. I played some (loved golden eye) but I would absolutely never pay for one. It's sorta like buying a daquiri. I like it when someone else shows up with a milk jug full (Daquiri World flashback) but I'd never buy one or even think about wanting one.

The prices are crazy these days. Here's to hoping my kids are easily brainwashed into hunting.

You can always win one out of a cereal box.

Still one of the wildest days of my childhood. You would have thought that me and my brothers had won the 17ing lottery. That boy is one of the luckiest SOB's I know.

I still don't understand why people don't just game on a PC.

You already spend 500 or so dollars on a game console...why not spend a little more and get an actual computer that can do so much more?

It's a **** ton more expensive in a PC platform and for sure the PC goes obsolete a lot faster. Games for a game box are gonna work. But pretty soon games on that PC are gonna be games designed for newer hardware.

Is there anything left on PC besides MMOs?

While the controller takes a bit of getting used to, give me BF4 on my widescreen at 1080p with surround sound any day.

While I still play the occasional MMO that my PC can run, I gave up on the PC upgrade rat race a long time ago. It's funny that PC people ***** about the prices of consoles yet have no problem upgrading their graphics cards every 9 months at $200 plus a pop.

I have one. It does take forever for games to download, but most of the time you can access certain parts of the game while it's still downloading. Even games with disk have to 'install' the first time you put them in which will take 15, 20, 30 minutes or so.

I like the TV intergration with it.

Here are some helpful hints:

While playing you say "Xbox: snap TV (?)" and it'll allow you to watch TV while in a game. Say "Xbox: switch" to go back and forth between game play and Tv.

Also, you can say "Xbox: record that" if you want it to record a 30 second clip of something in a game. You can the. Upload those into social media.

PC gaming is decline, IMO. I lived on the bleeding edge through the 90s. The golden age of PC gaming was the late 90s and its been on the decline since the early 2000s. There are still good games and the small time I spend playing games these days are usually PC games. But right now consoles are the way to go.

Just give the XBone time and it'll come around. Early adopters always have to deal with launch problems.

Unless things have changed in the last few years, it's because a good gaming PC costs about 3-4 times as much or else you're buying a system that's going to need to be upgraded within a couple years. Either way, it can be pretty expensive but for me, it's not even about the extra cost. I just want to have something where I can pop a game in and play. I don't want to have to worry about whether or not I have the latest graphics card, enough memory, etc.

I have to admit, though... with all of the constant sales that websites like Steam have now, you can get PC games for extremely cheap these days. That part is pretty enticing.

I think its PCs in general that are declining. We (my gf and I) use to have two laptops, but they have basically been replaced with iPads. If not for work, I could see me not owning a PC in the near future.

Graphics cards have been driven up in price recently by bitcoin and other cryptocurrency. People buy a video card and make a 5x return on investment after a few months by pooling their GPU cycles and selling their bitcoins.

The hardware is more expensive, but when you factor in cheaper games (especially if you wait for Steam sales), you probably come out with things costing about the same. Of course, the game lineups are different. You won't find Madden on PC, but you also won't find a lot of good indy games on consoles.

There's a decent chance these will be the last major gaming consoles made. That said, if you use the PS4 network you're supporting my job, so buy that one.

I purchased a PS 4 on release day aaaaaaaaaaannnnddd sold it yesterday for $800. I won't purchase a new console for at least two years after release for several reasons: bugs, low game selection and optional features that will require loads of software updates only to come standard on later releases. Plus....no NCAA football on the new consoles. Ever.... Sticking with my PS3 and playing NCAA till it dies...

You know 1080p is just 1920x1080 right? You can go much higher than that on a pc monitor. The refresh rates can go higher as well. You can get much better max video out of a pc.

In regards to surround sound, give me headphones to block out any other sound in the room over speakers. Though, you can get surround speakers on your pc too. 7.1 if you want. Yes, I know you can get headphones on a console.

Upthemiddle is right about video cards. Most people sell theirs if they're truly looking to stay cutting edge. Personally, when I upgrade every 3-4 years I just splurge 3-400 dollars and it works great for a video card until my next upgrade.

My most recent upgrade I spent about 1100; but that's because I needed a new tower as well. My PC will also double as my home computer, which I get a TON of use out of; particularly for work and research since I'm in IT. It's much more than just a gaming machine, but obviously that's me. I do make it a note to repurpose or donate anything from an old machine during an upgrade to help with costs or provide me with something else.

"This console port to PC looks amazing"...said no one ever. You can almost always tell too...if you can't see your feet or body in an FPS when you look down, it's probably a console port.

The PS3 launch says it cost anywhere from 400-600 dollars, in 2006.

The PS4 launch is what, 400?

The X1 is 550.

You can usually do a complete upgrade of your pc for about:

CPU: 200
MOBO: 70
RAM: 100
GPU: 300

That's around 700 bucks and you'll get better performance and better variety of games. Before we get into cases and PSUs and why you need one, if you get a big enough one for both it will last you for 10 years and cost around 250 bucks as a one time cost. Most builders are mistaken and think they need a new PSU at 1200w when a PC normally only uses much less than that.

As I also stated, you get a lot more out of a PC than just a gaming console. I know consoles are trying to go more toward the entertainment route, but they aren't adding anything that isn't on a smarttv, DVR, smartphone, or bluray player that you probably already own.

I completely disagree about the games being designed for newer hardware...if anything I want developers pushing the envelope for my gaming experience instead of reusing an engine that is 4-5 years old. Should you pay 60 bucks for a "cutting edge" game that's designed for older generation hardware?

I hear you and agree to a certain degree, but I think you're not giving too much credit to the ease of access argument. Developers and consumers are both preferring console gaming because the hardware doesn't change after 6 or 7 years. Obviously this means that games won't be pushing boundaries, but I really don't think that's a bad thing. Imagine if people were gaming mostly on PC's and developers were constantly pushing the hardware. You would more than likely have to upgrade your system after about 3 or 4 years, making PC gaming even more expensive than what it is currently.

Another reason people prefer consoles a bit more is because those are systems built specifically for gaming (with the exception of the XBO this year). Even though you can do pretty much the same thing, damn near all of the resources for consoles are dedicated to gaming. Not so much for PC's which. Also, other things like local cooperative play is much easier for consoles.

The way I look at it, there's pro's and con's for both and for the time being they both need each other for gaming to be pushed into the directions it can go. PC gaming is far from declining as some of the posters here have alluded to. Maybe not where it was in it's heyday, but it's actually growing. Me personally, I'd much rather spend most of my time gaming on consoles due to familiarity but I also want the superior experience. That's one of the main reasons I tend to prefer Sony's system for consoles because a good portion of the games I prefer, I can only get on their system. All of Microsoft's games, I can just get on PC and they'd look and play better too.

Don't remember the details, all I know is I get a phone call from Der's brother saying he won a Sega Genesis and we were over at that house a lot playing that console until it moved over to my house on weekend nights where HD6 got dominated on Mortal Kombat.

We were at the A&P in Vicksburg and Fruit Loops was running a promotion where you could win a Sega Genesis. I pick up a box and my younger brother throws a fit. He says to put it back and grab the next box in the row. Yelling ensued. Since we were good kids we decided during our yelling that the younger brother was an ******* and my older brother and I would open the box right there in the isle to prove his *** wrong. We open the top and pull the bag of sugary deliciousness out and then look inside. There is a giant gold star on the inside of the box and it says in large letters "You've WON!"

We absolutely lost our ****. Bro hugs for every one. Top Gun high fives abound. We showed the box to strangers and yelled that we won over and over.

I then played Sonic The Hedgehog until I beat it. Took about a week. After that I went back to killing fur bearers while my brothers started a case of carpel tunnel and a need for glasses.

Bought an X1 on launch day and have only been able to see it for 2 hours. I'm the only person in the world with the issue I'm about to tell you. At first the X1 was only displaying in 720p on my 1080i 42" Sanyo flatscreen. Then while talking to Xbox support we manually told it to switch to 1080p and it has been stuck in the black switchover screen ever since. The factory reset option also doesn't work. I tried the X1 on a different tv and it works just fine. Just not on my tv. At all now. Before I managed to get it lost in the black screen abyss I was able to hook the Comcast straight into it and watch my cable just like normal so you can switch back and forth from games to tv super easily now.

Reminds of the day we got cable at our house in 1990 and I was 10 years old. We turned on the TV and it was on ESPN. You would have thought we won the lottery.

I grew up in an area that to this day still doesn't have access to cable. When I was 10 or 11 we got a satellite dish... A BIG dish. The only thing I remember about it was the scrambled porn channels...

I'd watch this for hours.
