The real bad part is they have almost no chance of winning. It would be cheaper to forfeit. The NCHSAA should have to send a charter bus to pick
the team up and pay for one night lodging for the team. Fat Chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the mileage, if not mistaken, is taken out of the gate.....would expect b/t 0-10 fans from SR to make the trip

As far as I know the whole amount is taken from gate, then Murphy pays their % to state and their expenses, not going to be a big money maker.

I think most of coaches wish we would have kept our mouth shut about the old pod system...didn't have to worry about paying teams travel and food expense until 4th round.

I don't think the coach worries about it at all UNLESS he is also the Athletic Director

there will be more than 10 people there if the parents of the players r worth a dam.
We played them I think we counted 7 fans and it was a 25 minute trip. Most disorganized team I saw this year. Score should be like 60 something to 0

Rosman has to go at least as far to north duplin

Kevin, you beat me too it...lol!

I also agree that it is a long trip, but it is significantly better than the old Pod system.....At least moving forward, all teams will get to play an opponent that they haven't faced with the new West/MidWest playoff setup which I happen to like....

You also have to realize the demographics of an area too. It doesn't have to do with the parents not being worth a darn. That's a long way for a part of the state that statistically is a lower income area, not to mention that part of the state is recovering from Matthew right now so the resources to travel that far might not be there. You have no clue what they are going through right now. Some people are fortunate to be able to see their kids play anytime anywhere while others may be busting their butt on a Friday night to put food on the table.

Obviously i know some parents have to work, didn't meen anything negative towards anyone from that area. I have just known quite a few parents over the years who wasnt working that didnt go to games and that infuriates me. Every child kindergarten through pros likes to see there parents at the games.

Couple of observations. 1A doesn't have any conference rematches in first round but 1AA has 3. 4 Four County teams will battle to go to 3rd round. If seeds hold Rosman's trip to North Duplin of 355 will be topped by Cherokee's 363 the next week

I mean yeah Kevin there are parents out there that won't show up and don't give 2 cent but I'm sure there are a lot more parents that just can't make it this week for South Robeson than don't give 2 flips.

I believe Murphy has a cakewalk to a SC in 1A.........
I can't believe how easy they have it to state. The only teams in the west that could even have a shot would be Mitchell and Cherokee, even then it isn't much of a chance. If Murphy doesn't win state this year I would be surprised.

I've been hearing that Mountain Island Charter school (MICS) is very good. I looked into them and they do have some serious talent and speed. Got one guy (Aapri Washington CB/WR) with a long list of D1 offers and another one (Eric Gallman WR/DB) who is committed to Cornell. They get the ball in Washington's hands in many ways. He gets touches at QB and RB in addition to WR. They have a few other transfers from the surrounding Charlotte area. Tikwan "Smooth" Johnson WR/DB/ATH from West Meck and Terrell Hager RB/OLB/DB from Ashebrook, just to name a couple. Their QB Kyle Holcombe has passed for over 2800 yards this season. Defensively, MICS has 76 sacks and 22 INTs on the season. They average around 280 ypg passing and around 222 ypg rushing. MICS also has excellent kicking and return units. They haven't played the greatest competition, but they have run up some big scores and numbers and they are definitely talented and fast. So Murphy may not have such an easy time afterall.

I wouldn't consider playing Mitchell in the 4th (if both make it there) round a cakewalk to a championship. Mitchell is the defending big 1a western champ and is 10-1 this year again as they were last year, and I personally feel this year's team is slightly better especially on defense, maybe a step back on offense. Simmons ratings have them as the number 1 rated defense in all of 1a football, and that is while playing in a conference that only has one other 1a team. With that being said I feel like Murphy should be a slight favorite due to home field advantage, but it definitely should not be a cakewalk to get there, and as stated earlier maybe not even a cakewalk in the 3rd round against MIC.

Not trying to hurt feelings but Mitchell is no match for Murphy lol, Mitchell struggled with cherokees offense and defense for 3 quarters of the game and if Cherokee didn't shoot themselves in the foot twice within the 10 yard line then that could have been a two score game. Cherokee even played that game with several key players and a banged up QB. Not saying they would have won, but if they couldn't do any better than they did against Cherokee then how do you expect them to match against Murphy who is much bigger faster and aggressive then Cherokee? Again not trying take anything away from Mitchell but being realistic, Murphy wins by 3 scores

Football is all about matchups though and you can't just look at how a team looked against one team. Mitchell and Murphy also both played at Hendersonville, Mitchell led by 20 in the 4th qt at Hendersonville before giving up a hailmary td at the buzzer for a 13 point win, while Murphy trailed by two scores and was shutout until the final few minutes when they stormed back for the win. But none of that also don't mean one team is any better than the other, because these were early season games and different players were out for different teams and all kinda factors, just can't compare scores. Murphy may very well beat Mitchell by 3 scores, but nothing I've seen from either teams body of work tells me one team is 3 tds better than the other.

Agreed. Mitchell is a far cry from a cakewalk! Murphy should consider themselves fortunate if they make it to the fourth round and are able to beat Mitchell. Even with home field it is anything but a sure thing. It's a toss up if you ask me.

Lots of football to be played before you can get serious about Mitchell@ Murphy. Mitchell still has the rest of the SMC conference schedule in front of them with Hayesville and Cherokee. Yes I predict Cherokee to win on Friday. The rematch with Cherokee will/should be a battle.

Murphy has to get past a MICS team that puts up hugh numbers with some excellent athletes. Yes it has been against a less than spectacular schedule, but you cannot over look them. I fell certain that Murphy will be by far the best team MICS will have played, and most definitely the best defense they will have seen.

Having said that I still feel a Murphy/Mitchell battle is coming. At this point I would give the advantage to Murphy dueto home field and defense. Whether it is a 1 score or 3 score game who knows I hope to find out. In my opinion, which accounts for nothing, I think Murphy is the best 1a/1aa team in the west this season. No disrespect to the WM team or fans just my opinion and I have been wrong many times.

Good luck to all throughout the playoffs.

Yeah I know scores can't be compared to scores, I'm glad you saw I wasn't trying to downtalk mitchell. I just believe Murphy is totally equipped to handle mitchell, especially if you look at how similar Cherokee/Mitchell are. Mitchell has a better passing game I believe but Cherokee has the better run game. With that being said unless Mitchell gets some good runs on Murphy then I can't see their pass game being effective.

Murphy has a bear of a playoff bracket, not even close to a cakewalk. Mountain island is the top scoring offense in the state in 1A while Mitchell is now a battle tested program that knows how to win big games and play for state championships just 11 months ago. Murphy has a really good team but will be severely tested in the western bracket.

This is probably one of the toughest small 1A west brackets in a few years--maybe since 09 (that year Mount Airy went small, Robbinsville and Elkin both had great teams, and Princeton and Hobbton both went west after 8-3 regular seasons...not to mention teams like S. Stanly and N. Stokes that have since fallen off came into the playoffs with winning records that year). The people saying cakewalk must not remember years when the only decent teams in the bracket were Albemarle and the SMC teams. This year you've got several non-SMC conference champs (Mitchell, Thomas Jefferson, and N. Duplin), plus a pretty scary MIC team and a WS Prep team that played several 3A/4A schools non-conference but, based off their win over Robbinsville and the scares they gave Walkertown and East Surry, seems a lot better than their record.

Mitchell has ran the ball just fine this year, not so much early in the season but after a few games, the running game really took off. We've actually been a better running team than passing team in the second half of the season. Our 4 leading rushers have had a combined 336 carries for 2701 yards on the season for 38 touchdowns, that's just over 8 yards a carry, can't ask for much more than that. I know their not gonna run for 8 yards a carry against Murphy, but I think their offense is plenty balanced enough to pose some problems for Murphy if we're lucky enough to make it to that game, if we face your braves again I'm sure it will be a battle.
