South Robeson vs. Plymouth?

Question...I’m going to assume that South Robeson is in a split 1A/2A, but how in the world did they get a Bye with a 3-8 record? Similar situation with Columbia (Go Wildcats lol), but I’m just thinking this is a lose-lose on both sides even though I understand how the system is setup for seeding purposes (lose meaning from a travel perspective and of course somebody’s going home and safe to say I’m pulling for my home team...Go Vikings).

SN: I would have loved to see Bear Grass thrown in the mix. Was there a coin toss between them and Columbia since they split games during the season?

You are correct, they are in the 3 rivers 1a/2a conference. At 3-8 they finished ahead of 0-11 and 1-10 1a teams. Getting a bye was a joke.

Wow I believe people are overlooking south Robeson a bit. They are 3-8 but played 2A teams for the most part. Maybe Plymouth beats them by 50. But I think it will be a pretty good game

I don't think we can look at S. Robesons record. They played some really good football teams! It wouldnt surprise me if they won the game. But the VIKINGS wont overlook S. Robeson.. This is not one of the VIKING teams of the past. They are playing there best ball, and I think will win this matchup. But this is the year to get past the VIKINGS.. I think they will be better next year... Also, I'm hearing rumblings of a Creswell an Plymouth consolidation. A lot of parents are fighting against this, but if it happens, getting some of those guys from Creswell will only make the VIKINGS more of a threat!

Always the parents fighting against it. Perhaps it helps both schools in ways. Maybe not. I don’t know enough of either to comment

It would help Plymouth out tremendously. If both were to consolidate Plymouth or Washington Co. High School would still be a small 1-A with approximately 380 students. Just like when Jamesville and Bear Grass were consolidated with Williamston and Roanoke several years back the parents will fight till they are out of options. Then as in the case of Bear Grass they will start a Charter School if possible. I don't think the kids care and I feel safe in saying a few of the football players at Creswell with they were playing at Plymouth. Adults almost always screw up kids sports.

Will they be getting a new school? Obviously it seems to be a win win for all the kids if so

I would assume so. The county is pretty spread out so travel from Creswell to Plymouth would be long but the school could hold the extra students from Creswell. Plymouth was once 3-A years ago and 2-A back in the 90's so the size of the school would not be a problem. The state would have to appropriate funds to build a new school as the county can't afford it. This conversation has been going on for over 25 years so who knows when someone will act upon it.

It will be interesting to see how S. Robeson comes out to play. I will say they definitely have the advantage and momentum of being home, as opposed to traveling 3 hours, and coming out strong, but once the 1st quarter is over with I think Cody and the boys will turn up the heat and head back with the W.

As far as the consolidation goes at this point, it wouldn't be a bad idea to build a new school in Roper since that's the middle ground of the county (if so, might as well build it not far from the middle school). From my personal opinion, if the consolidation would have went forward when I was in school I probably wouldn't have been in favor for it only because I always enjoyed the rivalries (talking sports only) even though playing Creswell was never much of a game and I always talked junk to my dad since he played there. They would put up a fight though lol. Same situation with Jamesville and Williamston. That happend after I graduated, but everyone knows the history behind Plymouth and Williamston. I was not in favor of that consolidation primarily because of the PHS/WHS and WHS/JHS rivalries. It's even better when you have a cousin who stays next door to you and you're playing against each other every year.

You best be able to stop the Wing-T. Clay coaches it well, just sometimes doesn't have the Jimmy's and Joe's. They will be battle hardened

Plymouth players and coaches have seen the wing-t run about as well as it can be run from Murphy, so I'm sure facing a wing-T team won't be too big of an issue for them.

As for the game, I think Plymouth rolls. Murphy played South Robeson in the playoffs last year and unless they've improved exponentially, I would assume the Vikings win comfortably.

As much As I would like to agree with you, I just dont see this team rolling S. Robeson. I hope I'm wrong... The Vikings are definitely playing there best ball but they just havent shown the same strengths as years past. I would never doubt Cody or the staff, I just think if someone is gonna knock them off, its gonna be this year. VIKING PRIDE!

Man no respect for South Robeson

Yea it’s tough love...when you’re dealing with their current record and Plymout’s track record over the past few years I can see why.

I will say, I can give them props especially having to compete in a conference with the majority being 2A schools. If S. Robeson gets the win Friday, I will definitely pay respect as due.

Oh I think Plymouth wins. But S Robeson played in a league in which 4 of 5 teams just won in the 2A states. And at least half of those will win this week. I feel Plymouth wins, I just don’t think it’s a cake walk unless SR just quits if they get down early.

I also think SR could become a legit power in small 1A. They have the talent down in Rowland if they just get it totally together
