Starkville? Mississippi? Is it a tough sale for a coaching candidate?

Being from the south and as someone who thinks Starkville would be a great place to live, I am not objective. But for someone from a Metropolitan area or not familar with the area? Just reading the K-State board last week about their ideas of what current Mississippi is, was disappointing.

But if you can get a coach to visit and talk to some people who know, it's not likely to be a dealbreaker. It's not going to be ideal for a lot of coaches, but it's a top 40 job easily and a lot of coaches would be thrilled to live in Starkville for that job.</p>

of a bunch of fat guys racing...Coaches are people too. Some wont like it, some will love it, but most will see its a place that has been solid in basketball for over 20 years now- and it pays very well. Not worried about Starkville- it didnt hurt us making football or baseball hires

Need to tune up your sarcasm meter. Starkville & Manhattan are pretty similar. They call it Man-happenin' for a reason.

It's not the easiest sell but I live in Starkville and love it. Sure, as Coach34 said not all will like it but for every person that lives in a metro area and can't fathom ever going small town there are just as many that are tired of it taking 45 minutes to drive 10 miles and want to get to a relaxed pace of life. A friend of mine that lives outside Dallas comes here on business every great now and then and loves the change of pace. Me, I could never see myself living in Dallas. The last time I was there and trying to get out of town at 5:30 I yelled out loud more than once that you have to be mentally deficient to live in a place like this. But then again, this was a picture my wife took just before a missed exit and another barely controlled cussing fit since the kids were in the truck too.

but of the the perception of Ms in the general public outside the south. We got Mullen and that worked out/
If your Shaka and family and your making 1.2 in Richmond, VA, Is Starkville a tough sell

Would be nice to see Dan Mullen chime in and sell a potential bb coaching candidate on the benefits of a place like Starkville.

Just the stuff the state legislative group is trying to do right now would scare away a lot of people.

is < 90 miles. from Tuscaloosa. the new coach could always move there and commute if a metropolitian life style is important.

The coach would drive 90 miles one way everyday. Sure. Why not?

If you get a coach whose family likes rural living though, its probably a place that they would love to work at until they retire.

The state though...there are some serious issues that should make most people pause for a second- education, poverty, economic opportunity, and health. Sure its improved a ton in the last 10-15 years, so have most all other states.
