Myers Park and Cardinal Gibbons changed positions in relation to each other after Myers Park’s 16-13 overtime win over Cardinal Gibbons. Northern Guilford climbs into the rankings after their 43-6 win over Southeast Guilford. The ratings are below. Last week’s rank is in parenthesis.

I've explained before. There's a difference between a poll and a rating system. But it seems hard for folks to understand, as we seem to be ingrained with polls. A poll is a vote of a group of people. So, in a poll, the winning team in head to head, is usually ranked higher. In a rating system, a team is rated as to its perfomance relative to its whole schedule. In other words, a poll, will consider one game between two teams. A rating, considers a team's whole body of work up to that point of the season. This ranking is not a poll. It's a rating. So, yes, Richmond beat Butler. But, that's not the whole consideration. If you want to continue to think poll, that's fine. But, it's probably going to lead to some frustrations for you.

Honda, you are having an incongruent conversation with several of the posters. You are talking analytically and logically about a rating system that is a math model. You have been totally transparent as how it is generated and where it can break down, especially in the early and mid season. Some of the posters are coming at you from a purely emotional perspective. They will argue it doesn't make logical sense but they simply don't like the outcome with respect to their team. Kind of like me trying to reason with my wife when she is pissed off at me. No matter what I say, it only pisses her off more. I usually make more sense when she has cooled down. For your rating system, that "making sense part" pretty much happens towards the end of the season. Stick to your guns. Your system is a good indicator nonetheless and obviously generates interest and conversation. The fact that there are 40+ teams in 4A that could beat each other on a given night makes it even harder this year.

I’ve seen numerous polls, and rankings throughout the years. I have yet to see 1 that everyone agrees on. Both systems were created to have conversations about the teams. So yours is working. Mission accomplished!
