Seems there were rumblings about it after SC lost Saturday.
First time Spurrier began SEC play 0-4 in his career. It might be a 70-year old waking up and just saying "f it".

Depends if you consider a 2-4 start a medical condition.
Who would have guessed 3 or 4 weeks ago that Kyle Flood would outlast Tim Beckman, Randy Edsall, Steve Spurrier, and Steve Sarkisian.
Well Meyer quit Florida when he knew it was going to be a project to turn it around. I thought Spurrier might retire especially with this season.
Let's see USC, Illinois, South Carolina, Maryland, Purdue, Virginia, UCF, Miami, maybe Texas, Tennessee.

The medical issue is the implanted cleats in his backside from all the *** kickings. It's like Wade Garrett fighting Brad Wesley's thug Jimmy in Roadhouse. Spurrier is Garrett. The SEC is Jimmy.
Man, Schiano's agent is going to be up all night floating stories he's a finalist for all these jobs.
Not a good year to be looking for a coach. The season isn't even over yet and there are 3 openings in the top 3 conferences.
South Carolina was a pain stealing recruits last minute. Didn't the DT from Fl de commit to go to SC.
I'm just saying what we know. Potential other schools in the Big 3 are Illinois, Purdue, Auburn could be antsy, as could Oregon.
Outside of that you have Texas and also rans like Virginia. It could be a very crowded field.
Edit: Actually, nevermind. I only addressed half the question and my answer made no sense when I reread the second half of the question.

Good one, it has been a crazy season so far in term of coaching.
I'd be kind of surprised if he left MSU, even if USCe is his alma mater. He's been at MSU for 9 years and most of his coaching career has been in the midwest. He's built MSU up over the years. He makes about 3.75M at MSU and I'm sure they'd be willing to bump it up a little. Would USCe go way beyond that to make it worthwhile? I suppose anything is possible but I'd still be surprised if he left.
If by some chance it did happen, I wonder if Narduzzi had any out put in his contract just for MSU like Chryst probably had for Wisconsin.
I wonder if Fuente would be a name USCe would look at.
Looking at their depth chart, it's easy to see why he quit. They have quite a few seniors on the team that will be gone next year including the majority of the OL. They also have a lot of juniors which will be there next year from this terrible current year team. Rebuilding for SC will take at least 2-3 years to be a winning team again which Spurrier wasn't willing to commit.
According to The State, five names to consider are; Justin Fuente, Kirby Smart, Tom Herman, Chad Morris, and Rick Rodriguez.
Fuente is going to get hired away from Memphis after transforming a failing program into the top program in the American and would be my #1 choice if RU fires Flood (although RU would have to pay a serious salary since Fuente is earning more than Flood).
I know there are a lot of posters here who feel about Herman as I do about Fuente.

I would think that they would want a bigger name but we shall see.

From the mid major/coordinator level I like both Herman and Fuente. I don't mention Herman as much anymore because of his 2M+ buyout that I don't think most schools would be willing to pay. Fuente has been this year's Herman for me if he can repeat the results of last year. His buyout is 500K.
You can say USCe may be looking for a bigger name but if you look many schools (including big names) hire from the mid major/coordinator level. Florida's last 3 hires were either midmajor/coordinators. ND/Georgia/Tenn/Ole Miss/Miss St/Texas A&M etc...so you may not think Fuente is a big enough name but he's probably big enough looking at past history.
Venables the Clemson DC is a name I could see as well. Morris now at SMU but former Clemson OC I could see before but I'm wondering what his buyout might be and he's also from Texas so not sure how eager he'd be to leave.

Kirby Smart? On his first college coaching job at SMU and is 1-5. OK. Sounds good.
I wouldn't go for Morris if I were them but I could see it despite the record. He was Clemson OC for about 3-4 years so he's familiar with the area. SMU won 1 game last year so this is the first year in a rebuild so the record can sort of be "thrown out" and disregarded to a degree if that's someone you really wanted. If he was beyond the first year and it wasn't such a lousy situation he stepped into then it's harder to "throw out." Since it's very early in a rebuild for someone you're dying to get I can see it be "ignored" to a degree.
He's from Texas and I'm guessing SMU has some sort of buyout in the contract and I don't think USCe would be dying to get him anyway. I wouldn't completely rule it out but I think he's way down the list.
Fuente name comes up for many of the openings. People are aware of his record.
South Carolina's QB and tight ends coach G.A. Mangus would make a great addition to the Rutgers program if he doesn't stay at South Carolina. Mangus is 10 years removed from the head job at the Div-III Delaware Valley (PA) program with strong recruiting ties to PA and NJ.
