I give Stoops credit for doing things that hadn't been done at UK before he got here. He left UK with an exceptional TE room, but his staff was not able to to capitalize on that. It is early, but I think Stein is the type of coach that normally coaches at big time programs. For the record, I don't think Stein will leave UK for a big time program. UK will give him everything he needs to be successful and he loves UK. Stien has a brilliant football mind. I saw an article where his dad stopped discussing football stratagy with him in highschool, because Will's football acumen was so advanced he couldn't keep up and his dad is an attourny. Stoops on the other hand, was just a guy who knew one thing, football. There is nothing wrong with that, but I was so glad when I knew he would no longer be the UK coach. Thank you coach Stoops, but I believe we have one of the brightest coaches in college football. I also think this is the least tallented teams Stein will ha e at UK.

I seriously doubt he would root against the school. He may even be happy Stein is doing good. He has 38 million reasons not to hate.
If you don’t think he feels burned, you don’t know him. Sure, he’s laughing all the way to the bank but it’s a reason he isn’t even coaching right now. Whatever he is doing at Texas isn’t coaching.

That’s literally all he left us with. A good TE room and that’s mostly because of Rodriguez. I guess I give props for Miller too. Love him. Also Patterson.

Soeaking of Stoops players. Who was the defensive player that was highly ranked a couple classes ago that we got? I wanna say Brian Robinson or something like? Why has he been a bust? If I remember correctly Michigan was recruiting him heavily?

You got to believe he is hating our success. Will Stein is absolutely running laps around him and that’s with 60ish new players to the roster. This aint your daddy’s Kentucky.
I will never understand why some of you feel the need to bash Stoops because Stein is doing well. Stoops gave us some of the best seasons UK has ever seen. It didn’t end how we wanted (coaching tenures usually don’t) but Stoops bowed out in a manner that allowed Uk to go hire someone like Stein, who is definitely ahead of schedule. Why can’t you just appreciate what Stoops did and be happy we have Stein now?

F*cking idiots.

Agree. Its just more binary nonsense. You can and should be both appreciative of stoops and be glad Stein looks to be taking us hopefully a step further at some point.

The fact so many fans think poops was a good coach is why we’ll never be taken seriously as a football school. The guy had 2 good seasons out of 12 (1 was vacated) and was paid nearly $100mil for it. He got lucky with an extremely easy schedule and an extra stinky team. Look at his record against SEC West teams not named Miss State.

I don't quite get any of the Stoops hate. I'm not saying OP is hating but just all the stuff ive seen.

I didn't go through the terrible times like most of you and I can easily understand what he did for the program.

People love Stein? Guess what he probably don't dare come to UK if it was what it was when Stoops arrived. Stoops made our program better by a long shot. Stein is just going to make it even better.

Stoops doesn't need a statue or need to be worshipped like he was Nick Saban. But man he deserves a lot more respect.

First time in my life me and my Dad got interested enough about UK football to even keep up with it or must I say get excited...

Before Stoops all I knew was UK basketball. I remember the couple good teams we had with Woodson and stuff but man Stoops did an amazing job. He lost his fire at the end. It happens. Guy went through a lot also with his family. Just ridiculous to keep on bashing a guy that did the things he did. We actually owned Florida...

Yea ok the east was down...we could of been down also but we weren't and we kicked *** for a few years.

Stoops probably could care less. He’s got a ton of money and on staff at the #1 team in the country right now. I’m thankful for the years he gave us and got us back respectable before he imploded. But I would bet he is glad to see Kentucky doing good and don’t care much farther than that.

Stein finds a way to win Stoops was always finding ways to lose, he should have been gone year ago.
How many years ago? Like before Stein had a big name and we had all these high profile coaches drooling for this big UK gig? This is a simpleton take. We lucked up getting Stein. Oh wait I forgot Sumrall was begging for the job before he even had a name.

So I ask how many years ago? Like when Stoops was winning ten games a year or before that? Or should he have left last year when he left. Hes gone. Hes the reason this is even a semi attractive job.

Seriously if it wasn't for the perfect situation we got in Stein who do all of yall Stoops haters think we had lined up waiting for the kentucky football job?

Stoops wasn't Nick Saban. But we aren't Alabama either. Soops was the man for ten years.

Our 8 time winning national championship with the most wins basketball program has been sucking going on how long? And we don't raise hell about that?

We beat a bad Texas a&m team and a bad south carolina team that hasnt won their first sec game this year and all of a sudden we are this juggernaut football program.

Stein is awesome. Big things ahead maybe if he doesn't leave. But to act like Stoops is some dweeb is straight up troll work. Once again I don't think he needs a statue or needs to be worshipped like he was some amazing coach. But he did wonders for the program.

Besides the wins look at everything he built off the field. He made Kentucky attractive. He made it where we weren't everyone's homecoming. He gained us a little bit of respect. So what he stayed a year or two too long....he tried to leave actually. Hes not like Pope.

Kentucky fans and hating on their former coaches: name a more symbiotic duo. It’s bad enough we hate in our former basketball coaches who won us titles, but Stoops was consistently taking us to bowl games.

Did he end up washed? Absolutely, but it wasn’t his fault Mitch freaking Barnhart gives out these stupid contracts that leaves Kentucky in these expensive buyout situations. Most of the hate should be placed on Mitch. Man already destroyed our once proud basketball program. He was doing his best to kill what little good will he had from making the football program somewhat tenable.

Until Stein wins ten games or something bigger than the citrus bowl its kind of pointless to keep acting like hes this savior.
We won some games this year. It's fun and exciting thinking about what could be. I remember Stoops had us 6-0 one year. So really Stein has a lot more to prove.

Funny thing about our fan base is watch LSU dog walk us and see how quick all this positivity about Stein changes. I hope we win but what's our record against LSU?

Wait I even remember a Stoops team destroying a LSU team not long ago. Yea yall are full of fckn sheeeet.

You wonder if the man heard how unliked he was and his pride couldn't handle it making him do everything you said on purpose.

Stoop's biggest knock is he couldn't get over the hump and beat the higher tier teams. He could beat down teams. The down Florida's. The overrated whoever like a&m. He was south carolinas daddy most of his tenture. he could play the number one team like Georgia within three points. He just couldn't beat those upper teams.

Currently the only big boy team Stein has played has been Alabama and that was a 28 point loss (at hime). Thats 4 whole touchdowns.

I'm Not diminishing his wins or saying im not extremely excited like everyone else. But the whole country is saying how overrated Texas aM is. The entire board is saying it.

Stein has a big boy game this weekend. Let's see what he does. Lets stop the Stoops hate also. Go Cats.

Stoops brand or style was so boring and hard to watch . I agree it was a total upgrade from the joker ,but with that being said : it's hard to win at Kentucky in the sec with that style of play . What we witnessed Saturday night foreshadows what will come under our big balls energetic coach will stein . Go cats go stein

Stoops won in Columbia three times without overtime. If we don't convert that two point conversion everyone has whole different tone and Stein would be looking like a fool. I'm glad he won and went for two. I just don't get why a overtime victory against a team that hasnt won a sec game yet means we start shading Stoops.

38-68 sec 12 years and south Carolina had a 4 game win streak against stoops when he left. End of discussion . you prefer watching paint drying or grass growing I don't

I don't prefer Stoops over Stein. I just don't get the Stoops hate after Stein barely escaped a team that hasnt won a conference game.

I'm able to be as excited about Stein without acting like Stoops was terrible. Stein is an upgrade its looking like. Doesn't mean I have to get on here and crap on Stoops. So na you're wrong about what I prefer. You prefer to hate on Stoops. Why not hate on the coaches before him that were way worse.

And yea at the end he sucked. Thats why he left. Pretty sure he has a win streak against south carolina. And Florida. Name another UK coach that's beat Florida like Stoops. I prefer to give respect when its earned.

I Prefer to crap on coaches like Pope who are an embarrassment to the program and brand. Not a coach that made the brand better. Lame.

Stein has 34 games to win in the sec before he catches Stoops sounds like. Id bet he doesn't pass Stoops. He will leave if he has any success.

Stoops was loyal. Don't want to hear the where would he or went argument. Why did the number one team snatch him up so quick? Because he was kicking their *** for the last two seasons. Should have won last year. Lets see if Stein has a chance to beat these top teams before we act like hes done something.

Our current running back Baxter said out of his own mouth a big part of his decision to come here was seeing how tough Kentucky was when they played us. Stoops turned us into a real program even if he didn't win enough for our fans that are used to being bottom feeders their entire life.

I hope Stein does great here, but it is funny seeing UK fans putting him on a pedestal after beating a cupcake, an over ranked A&M, then struggling to beat another cupcake, struggling to beat a dumpster fire unranked SEC team and getting boat raced by another SEC team.

Why do you think that?
Because if you can have success at Kentucky a bigger school will want you. If he has real success. Like what everyone is saying he will do. More than Stoops.

But its what I think like you said not what i know. And I hope he doesn't leave. I'm on the Stein wagon as much as anybody. But im gonna stick up for Stoops while riding the Stein train.

I think he’s probably very surprised, but happy as well.

He’s part of Kentucky football and Kentucky football is part of him.

Did a very good job here. The game changed on and off field. His ways weren’t going to work anymore everyone knew it including himself.

He got paid well. He’s got a good gig at Texas and may win a title. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s a DC again in the near future.

People act like Stoops didn't pull us out of the gutter and give us some of the best wins in school history.
He did, but after Levi’s and Cohen left he got lazy and replaced them with terrible players and coaches. The one year we had a real QB and OC we won 10 games and almost played for big time bowl. Stoops held the offense back and the last 4 years or so he was checked out. He should have left on his own accord after the T A&M debacle. It wasn’t good for either party after that. Another example that Mitch should have been ousted a decade + ago.

Against our history he did very well, however he was held on a higher regard and given way more extensions and rope than he deserved for his record overall. We will never be a decent football school if his tenure was considered an all time success. His overall record in the SEC shows that. I do thank him and he had a good run, but he should have left after 2021.
