The board had him fired last week....Texas is now up 14-0 against No. 10 OU and playing great on both sides of the ball.

Beating OU would buy him some credits in Texas.
And it would depend on what do in the games following this one.

"The board had him fired last week..." reminds me of a line I once heard about economists - "economists have predicted 12 of the last 5 recessions"

- this is not unlike the adamant prediction of 2+ weeks ago that Flood & Hermann were going to be 'walked' during the bye week
- that it was absolutely a 'done-deal'....giant boxcars of doo-doo were going to be dropping out of the sky....

It's all about playing defense!
Its as if Kansas has grade school players on the field trying to defend Baylor

I mentioned that I wasn't so high on him at Louisville before seeing how he'd do without Bridgewater but that I wasn't so down on him at Texas either. He's a solid coach and whatever happens at Texas doesn't change my opinion of that. Sometimes the situation isn't right.

His biggest problem there is getting the offense right and identifying a good OC. He's recruited some decent pieces. I said his freshman qb has shown flashes. He built a good defense at Louisville and his defense last year was ranked in the 20s/30s in total/scoring. This year they dropped off a cliff to the 100s but I don't know how much of that might be a function of possible time of possession issues and switching to the spread. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that he could fix it given his record on defense.

I said that while they got their doors blown off against TCU, they challenged Cal/Ok St. closely. Poor special teams and penalties killed them and they still went down to the wire in both games. So there are some signs from his very young team. If he gets the offense right I think he'll be okay at Texas but I don't know if he'll get the time. He wouldn't be on the top of my list of choices but I'd have no issue with him if he was available. Help him identify a good OC that's the biggest issue. It doesn't matter what happens this game or the rest of the season, I still think he's a solid coach.

Well I've noticed that sports messageboards are ripe with the male version of gossip. The Strong rumors were out in the general media but irrespective of that particular situation you see it all over with many other situations. You're right, a few here were quite sure Flood/JH were going to be booted during the bye week even after 1/2 that rumor was shot down by the mods. So much rumor/gossip gets passed off as truth. That's why I say try and stick with what actually happens in the foreground and not pay attention to the innuendo. Who knows what is true and what is not, more times than not it's just gossip.

If we'd shown even an assemnlance of evidence to the contrary, Id feel a little better.

Zappaa, there is always a chance. Remember, no one thought the Braves would win in the bottom of the ninth vs. The Pirates until the very slow and ex-Pirate Sid Bream scored.

Oklahoma seems to have a habit of Clemsoning under Stoops, but I don't think anyone saw this coming. (LonghornAl, maybe?) Texas has gotten a LOT of pressure on the OU QB.

Remember the Sooners were down a bunch late at Tennessee and came to win it, so this one is not over either.

Just like that, OU with a couple of big conversions on 3rd and long and 4th and 8, and now they are back within a TD. This is usually one of my favorite rivalry games to watch for some reason.

Just heard Texas starts 2 true freshmen on OL and playing a lot of other true freshmen., along with a redshirt freshmen QB....looks like the future may be bright.

Texas has 9 FR starting. This is going to be a very good team given enough time. And I don't believe Strong is going to get fired.

I'm skeptical of it too. It's his 2nd year and he's got 15M left after this year. Regardless of how much money they have that's still a chunk of change. This week the admin/key boosters came out in support of him too so that doesn't hurt either.

I know some of the boosters and they absolutely wanted Brown out and they like the direction of the team now. Of course, you lose and they don't want you back. Red McCombs, big booster, wanted Brown to stay and actually said Strong might make a good coordinator but should not be a head coach.
I think Strong will do well over the long term, starting with next year.

I think he'll be fine if he gets a good OC, still not sold on Norvell. He was co-OC at Oklahoma but hasn't called plays since about 8 years ago when he was at UCLA and both him and Heupel were let go from Oklahoma for production issues. If Norvell does end up working out then I think Strong will be fine.

Charlie is going nowhere. The fans will learn to love him in the coming years. Just as they have come to love the other Arkansan that owns the Cowboys.

SG,
Do you know how many freshmen are in Texas' starting line-up?
I think I heard it was 13, but that could have been about another program and I'm
making a mistake thinking it's Texas having 13 freshmen in its starting line-up.

I believe the number of starting fresh is 9.

Regardless, it is a large number of frosh and I do not want to play texass anytime soon.
