1. Close losses suck. Thats 2 this season. Very disheartening. Tough being a State fan sometimes<div>
</div><div>2. Coach Wilson should have put away all the doubters. We have had some good gameplans and are playing pretty good defense. People want to ***** about this or that- and how we play too soft in the secondary- but we are 5th in the SEC in scoring D and 20th in the country. Thats playing winning defense. Wilson is not perfect- only Saban is supposedly- but other than having Broomfield on Jeffrey that last play- he's doing a good job in his 1st season as DC.</div><div>
</div><div>3. You watch the offense yesterday and it should have become more apparent the problems werent just Ralph-related. What a crazy fall off- it's like him getting stuffed at the goalline vs Auburn ended his career. He put up 27 on Auburn- SC only scored 9 vs them and Florida got 6 last night. Just crazy.</div><div>
</div><div>4. The OL was soooo much better yesterday. They actually played average. Having Carmon back at LT is huge and had as big an effect on the offense as changing QB's. SC has a very good DL and they did get some pressure for sure- but they would have had 10 sacks if we had played Clausell- they would have made his *** quit. That said, we still have problems on the OL- but the chance to get more healthy the next 2 weeks- give some younger guys extra live reps with the week off, and having the same group ready to go vs Kentucky will be a big, big plus for us going forward.</div><div>
</div><div>5. Where is the screen to Perkins? Or better yet- any type of pass getting him involved in the passing game? Lots of untapped passing yardage in his *** right now</div><div>
</div><div>6. Our LB's have grown up and look pretty good. "My boy" Deonte Skinner is starting to be the player I thought he'd be this season.</div><div>
</div><div>7. Give me more Malcolm Johnson also- please. Please. Seriously- please.</div><div>
</div><div>8. Tyler Russell- The Good- is a natural QB, has pretty good awareness in the pocket, throws pretty well when moving, surprised with a couple of runs, does a good job of putting the ball where it needs to be on intermediate routes, gets rid of the ball outside the pocket to avoid sacks. The Bad- He was 11-29, bounced the quick screen, overthrew the deep ball, 2 picks, had the ball slapped out of his hand in the pocket (fortunately we recovered it), and takes too many direct hits. He did some of the things many here wail on Relf about- yet people act like we scored 30 points and he threw for 300 yards. He did not play good- that would be a lie- but he did play ok for his 1st start- and he absolutely has the upside to improve.</div><div>Nobody has questioned that he has the ability to make throws that Relf cant. And he will start hitting some of those deep throws with more time. He also provides us the ability to throw the slant that Relf cant. We have made the change, and no doubt need to stick with it going forward.</div><div>
</div><div>9. We should finish 6-6 and go bowling. We are not a program yet that can call going to a bowl a bad or disappointing season. You can be disappointed we didnt pull out a few more wins- but Miss State going to a bowl is a successful season. Argue if you want- I've got history and facts on my side. The few idiots- and you are an Ernest T. Bass village idiot if you are talking about getting rid of Mullen.</div><div>
</div><div>10. Playcalling- I like what Mullen did in Russell's first start- being conservative to minimize mistakes and keep him from throwing 5 picks. But we missed a chance in the 1st half when we had great field position and went with three straight runs, and then the 1st and goal from the 5 was not real good either. Even with a fairly conservative plan- we had 37 runs and 30 passes. We really dont need to throw it more than 30 times in a game anyway.</div><div>
</div><div>QB change- now an off week to get more work in on it- and the chance to get healthier coouldnt have come at a better time. I expect us to come out of the offweek with a couple of wins and looking better on offense. Hopefully some good times ahead.</div><div>

Teams, it is that simple. I too am very pleased that Wilson is working out. He is key to getting the talent we need to get over the hump. You will be pleased to know that I spoke to the recruiter at the veranda after the game and he is a big fan. Seriously, he spent some time with my young son and made a big impression.

Both teams are poorly coached and Kentucky appears to have the lowest talent level in the league. Also our defensive improvement has been a bright spot. Cam Lawrence and Brandon Wilson are playing welland our tackles aregetting alittle better at disengaging blocks. Our offensive line NEEDS the extended practice sessions that come with a bowl game. That is the biggest reason we need to get that sixth win. I don't see us losing to Nutt at home, mentally I think that team has checked out for the year. Poorly coached and no leadership.</p>

I also think Wilson is doing a very good job. The D has really come a long way this year. I like what I saw in Russell, but has plenty of room to improve. And I think he will. If we can get to 6-6 and a bowl(even if the toilet bowl) that is still a plus in Mullen's 3rd season. Back to back bowls will help sell our program to future recruits.<div>
</div><div>Yesterday's result was disappointing, but the team played hard. If Mullen can iron out some of the decisions that are made during the course of a game, I will be happy. That is my main concern as to where we are right now.</div>

playing arguably the top 2 teams from the east in crossover and a brutal west.7 wins was our maximum with one of those meaning beating an equal Auburn or SC.

It all goes back to recruiting, we have to get the Evans, Ward, Autry, Nick James' out there to get to the next level. To reach the next level we HAVE to start playing the game. Brassell looks like the real deal, we have to get to where those don't slip away and the further demise of MississippiU has to help

No doubt. When we got close to the goal line, I got excited when 80 went in the game. Shirley a fade or jump ball was coming. Ugh..maybe not.

Yes, the D looked very good overall. But it's very disappointing to finally take a 10-7 lead with 10 minutes and then see USC drive 85 yards for a TD and eat up 7 minutes off the clock and converted 3-3 on 3rd downs. They played great for 50 minutes, but you've got to find a way to get a 17ing stop in that situation.

We have made the change, and no doubt need to stick with it going forward.
I thought it was telling that Relf didn't get any snaps at all. Would have been nice to see him in a short-yardage package, especially on the goal line. I have to wonder how well he's taking the demotion.

One more comment, WTF were we doing attempting a 54-yard FG? Punt the damn ball and make them take it at about the 10 instead of the 37. It didn't cost us immediately, but it did flip field position.

"in Mullen we trust". Second guessing the play calling is natural for anyone but for those who have never done it....well they should try it. It is kind of like being a ref/umpire...try it and you will appreciate it more.

what would coach be posting? 0-4 in the league and he would be leading a riot to try and run Stansbury off. I am not against Mullen, I still think he will succeed but he better start getting the top Mississippi talent like Stans does or this will be the norm. We need a big play reciever badly and not one who is 6 feet tall. I thought when the year started we would probably be 7-5 but right now 6-6 looks good. We can't beat Bama if we play them on the moon and Arkansas will simply outscore us. The others are winnable. Coach, it is okay, we know you are foaming at the mouth waiting to start your tirades but it sure is interesting the different perspective in your analysis from sport to sport.

When Relf hit Chris Smith between the numbers and it got picked, we all gave him a pass on that one. Relf had 5 interceptions dropped by UGA and UAB. Russell had a ball batted and his arm hit, tough to really fault him for that.

Someone said Wyatt mentioned Russell needing to get the ball to the WR before they make their break. Agree 100%. Once he gets to that point, he'll be scary.

Can't believe we didn't run more screens.

Is a good blocking tight end! It is really hard to run the ball consistently in short yardage situations and inside the 5 yard line (like yesterday) without someone crashing down the outside with double teams both from guards and tackles w/o the TE.

Also, we just don't have enough good receivers who can run past the defenders and separate themselves with good routes. The perfect example was 3rd and goal yesterday and Russell had very good pass protection and plenty of time but no one could separate from a defender.

I can say now that Russell is gonna get much better from here on out. He played very well considering the pressure he was constantly under and he did a good job of getting out of the pocket w/o taking a sack. I was really impressed with his first start in throwing away at least a half dozen passes when our receivers couldn't get open.

I agree with Mullen on us being very close to being a good team, we need some speed with play making ability on offense and as I said we need a tight end along with some offensive linemen for our future. I think we will win 6 games this year, I hate we lost but we are improving both defensively and I think we will show improvement in our offense with Russell.

The regular posters here all agree that after the Auburn game it was apparent that we just aren't a very good SEC team this year. We're very average, but can still with some ease make a bowl game this year. If we play like we did today against Arkansas, we will have a chance to beat them as well.

Now that Tyler has a game under his belt as the starter and because of the fact that we have two winnable games after our bye week this week. I too, would like to see more screens- not just to Perkins, but in general. They are essentially "long hand offs" and they will add another dimension to our offensive attack which should help us throw deep better more consistently.

As far as recruiting, we need to really focus on getting more "four-five" star guys on the offensive side of the ball. Most of the few that we have landed have been on the defensive side, and not surprisingly that is our strength right now.

Wilson has made me a believer, and ultimately his unit will be why we go to a bowl if we go to one.

All three of them are headed for probably no worse than 8 wins. Auburn could lose four games and still be in the top 15 by year's end, just like us last year. SC and UGA are probably the two best teams in the East and will likely be playing on New Year's Day. Take a look at any ranking system you care to pick, and I would be willing to bet that those three teams end up in the top 20 of that system.

The football vs basketball comparison is just horrible. Even you should know that.

Whitley laying the wood on Lattimore. I believe he hits harder than most of our LBs. I hated seeing him miss that tackle and bend Lattimore's knee the wrong way though. Not sure if it has been announced yet or not, but I highly doubt that is only a sprain with the way his knee bent outward and somewhat forward. I really like Lattimore and hate to see anyone have a season ending injury.

at this point. I think Dan Mullen expected a lot more too. Overall, I agree with your assessments, but let's hold Dan Mullen more accountable. This team had the potential to be 5-2 right now, but at least 4-3 was too high of expectations. It's difficult for me to see us any worse than 5-7 (and I expect 6-6) but 4-8 is really possible. We almost lost to La Tech and trailed UAB at halftime.

the loss of Hudspeth was a much bigger blow to our overall program this year than the loss of Diaz. We did at least replace Diaz with another experienced coach who was doing a great job as DC of FIU so I think our defensive staff has overall comparable skill to what we had last year. However, these exact same receivers were having MUCH more success last year getting the separation you are talking about with Hudspeth coaching them last year versus what Mirando is getting from them this year. The promotion of Mirando to WR coach from his grad assistant position certainly has to be in question at this point. Especially if he is not really reeling in the recruits for us, because everything else about his young age is a disadvantage for the position he currently holds at an SEC school.

receivers. Are they able to get open?? It sureseemed that Russell had time on several drop-backs to find one, and couldn't. Maybe his fault, maybe theirs, maybe great defense. I don't know, I just hope it was great defense. BTW, I noticed the same thing with Ralphin earlier games. Last year he made the pass, this year he didn't, and was sacked or ran for no yards.
