I don't get it either, brother. Forgetting about wins and losses for a minute, there is absolutely zero juice surrounding MSU athletics right now, and I don't get why we continue to kill what little excitement prior administrations were able to drum up.

If Selmon were to post an online poll right now with one simple question, "Are you excited about State athletics?", the approval rating might be < 20%
This is the frustrating part for me. You can have a great lineup of weekend activities even if the athletics suck. Yes, a winning team makes it more fun, but that’s not a prerequisite for having concerts, bbq, etc. maybe this pisses me off more than it should. I’m not in the stage of life to go most likely anyway (kid activities on Saturdays), but there is no excuse for this other than extremely poor leadership. I’m really just embarrassed by how bad we are at the things we can control.

I hear there’s a SHeDAISY concert at the Tin Gym on Saturday.

Yeah it's going to be a good weekend in Starkville regardless of this thread. 30k in town between the derby, baseball and soccer tournaments.

I would just like to know the reasoning behind not trying to coordinate one big weekend in the spring. I know it's work, but it just seems like it would do a lot for recruitment if we had a big weekend where people came because they knew things would be going on and other people would be coming. I can understand why hotels would want to space out the events, but just seem slike a no brainer for the university.

Are we not able to lock in a time on an SEC weekend because of TV or something?
I think they want to try to make it into 2 big weekends instead of one to help the economy. Not sure it’s the best idea but I think it’s what they are going for. Same reason they had the big concert in the fall during an away football game.

I doubt we see SBW anymore unless they decide to have a big concert at the football field.
You mean like that year that great band Sugarland played on the field right after the game? I was sitting outside at a tent enjoying beverages with friend and people were leaving in droves. Sound was horrible (imagine that), we were sitting outside and couldn't even hear it

View attachment 798032It doesn’t take much effort to get people excited and make some money for the city.
I hate to tell yall. Oxford has a huge advantage to Starkville in its proximity to Desoto county and Memphis and not having the equivalent of Alabama football in Memphis. Could you imagine if the UofTennessee was in Memphis? OM and Oxford wouldn't draw half the crowd.

I'm telling yall. Alabama football attracts resources from Lowndes county to Tuscaloosa and away from Starkville. Alabama being so close is a huge disadvantage.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone with prior experiences to say the past 5 or 6 SBWs were even good. I've been to many, and I believe the best ones by a large margin were between 85-95. Spring football game, good baseball series (several with Saturday doubleheaders), various festivals downtown, BBQ contests, Saturday night concerts...
What happened with the bbq contest and concert on SBW? I swear I remember one year hootie and the blowfish played on campus for SBW… or maybe just hootie after he went country.
