I don't think radio and tv sports figures believe much of what they say. They figured out long ago that hot takes and yelling gets ratings. It's why I don't listen to much national radio or watch the espn shows. You rarely learn anything from it other than how to elevate your blood pressure from being exposed to stupidity. Sanders, Kap, and Tebow have one very important thing in common…. If the NFL doesn’t view you as a starting QB, they don’t want a backup that is going to be getting all the attention.

He was an NFL talent. He just was a backup qb talent at that point that wanted starter money and was a huge risk as far as the potential to alienate the teams sponsors and fans.
I think this is more likely. If an NFL team thought cost/benefit ratio was correct he would have been drafted earlier. Apparently it’s a bad idea to, allegedly, tell prospective employers your list wills/wonts in an interview. His dad set him up to fail. He should have said “Son, I’m going to hype you as much as I can but when you get with NFL execs you talk about hard work, teamwork and being willing to learn whatever you need to learn to succeed.”
