As a long time fan of North Carolina High School Football lots of teams become powerhouses and fade out. Tarboro does not appear to be on that particular course. They keep getting better. While I realize that they have not been successful in wining a 1AA state championship its only a matter of time. This year looks very promising for them to win it all. I am not just saying this because Wallace Rose Hill jumped to 2A because I would feel the same about this years and next years Tarboro team. While conference play has not been as challenging for Tarboro as years past I believe this Tarboro team could compete in 2A and even 3A. Speed, size, strength, ability to make plays out of nothing are taking place with this team. They appear more focused and dedicated to reach their goal and thats dangerous for any team they face. The Tarboro defense is one of the hardest hitting teams I have personally seen in years in High School football. Trust me I have seen teams from all over NC and even SC. Make no mistake im not discounting any other team in conference or non conference or even the teams that Tarboro will face in the playoffs but if they keep the top seed and play at home throughout the playoffs be on the lookout. Tarboro in my opinion has earned the right to be labeled a powerhouse this year until proven otherwise. Can they be beat?? Sure any team can that's why they play the game but you can etch this in stone today you will feel the effects of playing them win or lose.

I think Tarboro wins the championship this year, and I really don't think it will be all that close.

Tarboro may win. But whoever comes out of the West will be battle tested for sure and ready for Tarboro..the East on the other hand..not so much..

I don't think y'all guys in the west really knows how good Tarboro is. They are as strong as WRH was last year. The west will not be close. 3 tds at least.

I had an opportunity to see Tarboro play and the defense is extraordinary! They seem to have multiple running backs that can shred just about any defensive front even when their are extra men in the box. These guys hit harder than a lot of larger schools that I’ve seen play in Wake, Catawba, Nash, Yancey counties. What’s most impressive is they seem brutal when attacking the ball. With all this said any team can be beaten on any day no matter rank or affiliation but I feel very strongly that the Tarboro Vikings could end up Undisputed!

I beg to differ Tarboro still plays 2A and 3a schools non conference and up until last year played Wallace Rose Hill who beats 2A and 3a schools

Tarboro is good, but no 1a or 1aa team is competing with the best 2a and 3a teams. It's a totally different world up there.
I disagree also, a lot of good 2A and 3A can be beaten by a good 1A or 1AA team depending on who the 1A or 1AA teams are.

Tarboro’s defense has been overwhelming the competition. They have only given up 40 points and the majority of that was after a running clock. Coach Harding has the D playing lights out. On the other side of the ball, Tarboro is using more running backs than I have ever witnessed. 18 players have carried the ball. 10 players have more than 100 yards rushing and 14 different players have rushing TD’s. Our fastest Senior RB has been out the last two games and we still put up 122 points without him. Tarboro has suffered through a couple of year where we were not very deep st RB but that will not be the case for the next couple years.

I haven’t felt the need to hype this team up on this board. Their record and stats speak for themselves. I am looking forward to the playoffs. This team has what it takes to make this year very special.

Tarboro= bootstomped by Shelby
Tarboro= curb stomped by South pointe
Tarboro=teeth kicked in by Hibriten
..I see mt.airy having the best shot in 1aa if they go big...MA has a few D1 recruits..and Donovan Green (WR mt.airy)would most certainly be the best athlete on the field.

Proud of Tarboro. I think the west has a few teams that can win it all. Especially awesome are the Mt. Airy Bears. East Surry is also better than people think, but the Bears look real good.

Best MA team since the teams of the 2007-2009 Bears. Last year's team was 1 game away from the State Championship, and this team appears a lot better.

The Holder kid does not get the credit he deserves. Over 70% passing completion, quick as a cat and awesome as a DB. Donovan Green will be the best player on anybody's field. They will get him more touches if needed. The Smith kid is a very good runner. The other receivers are pretty dang good too. Best special teams in the State. Defense is lights out and line play gets it done every game on both sides of the ball.

Stop one thing and the Bears have other viable options.

Go Bears!

Not counting chickens before they hatch, but it’s very likely that Tarboro will host Edenton Holmes on Dec 1 for the 1AA East Regional Championship. Should be a classic! Tarboro’s championship record is proven. Edenton Holmes is having another great season after finishing last year as 2A state runner-up.

I agree with JahAces on Edenton Vs Tarboro.. Edenton only has one loss against a great Northeastern team..Edenton Rb Keion Bailey is very talented coming out of back field. If they play Tarboro I think it will be a great game. Only 2 TDS have been scored on Tarboros starting defensive from all year so I will give the edge to Tarboro should this game take place but that’s why they play the game.

In a one game situation I agree that a strong 1a team can beat good 2a, 3a, even 4a teams (Murphy beat Asheville in 2001 and 2002, just to name one example), but over the course of an entire season, a 1a team would get worn down playing against good teams in higher classifications.

Not necessary true condition and the type of players you have on your team and the type of coaching the players receive plays a big part also.

Daddy Doug seems like you're sleeping on those EW Cards!! LoL.

No, on the contrary. I said there are a few teams. I just didn't mention them all. East Wilkes has met all challenges. I also believe the Smokey Mountain Conference will be battle tested too as their conference games will prepare them.

I was defending the west, and I think the west overall is better (deeper) this year.

I do think Tarboro will have their hands full with Edenton Holmes.

Going to be a fun post season.

The thing is, larger schools have a bigger talent pool to draw from. 1a teams can be extremely talented sometimes but the fact is, they don't have the depth of talent across all positions that good teams from larger classifications have. That's the main difference and that is why Tarboro would struggle if they played teams like Shelby, Mallard Creek, South Point, Crest, etc.
Yes there are more players to draw from in higher classification but that doesn't they are better or coached as well as a 2A or 1A teams. I seen a lot of smaller schools that could hold their own against any schools in any classification. I was at the HSOT this August at Cardinal-Gibbons with schools from all classification participating and to tell you the truth Northeastern talent wise was just as good as any schools that was participating. I have a nephew that coaches at Heritage High School in Raleigh a 4A school and he said that most of the kids in 4A that are highly rated a 3 or 4 star recruits are usually based on their future potential to schools not on their present potential and their GPA. He had a kid come from another school in Raleigh a 4A school and a senior 6'5" 245 with 14 offers but couldn't even make his team at the position he got all the offers for. I've watched them practice with kids that have offers for Virginia Tech,NC State,Duke etc,etc. they are average but have good GPA's a small school has to be good from the jump if you know what I mean.

Griddle what your failing to realize is that Tarboro won the 2A three years 09, 10, 11 in a row so yes they can compete with all those teams you mentioned. It’s not a question win or lose just can they compete and let me just say as someone that gets to watch 4aa every Friday night Tarboro just has one of those defenses that beat you down.. I was impressed with what I saw as a friend invited me to watch them play. all those other schools you have mentioned also all have great teams this year and years past but should be a great post season. I wish your team luck whoever they play.

I understand that they did and can compete. But they dropped off quite a bit since those teams. And Reidsville in 2A is a totally different ball game.’sorry, they are a machine and would pound Tarboro

I have talked to multiple people who are officials that have officiated Tarboro games as well as some of the real big schools such as wake forest heritage etc. and they have stated that Tarboro is easily one of the Top 10 teams in the State regardless of classification...I've been watching Tarboro football for a while and my opinion this is the best team I have ever seen them have. Big fast and strong is a recipe for success and this team has all of those qualities.

Tarboro could compete in your best conferences in 2a and 3a. Probably compete well in 2a playoffs. Probably not in 3as playoffs
