My bad I forgot not to post anything that could be perceived as negative on SPS, Gene.

Next time I'll try to contact LaDarius and tell him to delete the tweet to help with the rug sweeping.

I didn't mean it as a shot at you. I'm just saying that the only ones making headlines about it is MSU fans. Not you in particular, it's everywhere. Sorry

Reading all the posts ... it's sorta funny how many jump to the defense of Starkville. Most students don't like the town, or that was the case when I was there. And the city fathers didn't care for the students, and that might have been the case with most townsfolks. But it boils down to ... both Starkville and Oxford are small towns in Mississippi. Their relative merits are really moot. I wouldn't want to live in either. Neither one can compare to a sizable city that has a cosmopolitan atmosphere.

When it comes to the campuses, MSU is beautiful, and I've heard that OM is too (haven't seen much of it myself). Most colleges are. But in general, I like MSU a lot better because of the people there and the beauty of the campus.

Regardless, Perkins probably should not have tweeted what he did ... players should know that what they place on a social site is scrutinized, and possibly misinterpreted, far more than if he was a regular person.

Was there really anything to sweep under the rug? Did we do something to sweep his comments under the proverbial rug? I doubt many Ole Miss fans cared that Marshall tweeted that. Most of us were cheering for MSU in the CWS. Marshall was cheering for State to win the College World Series, simple as that.

Oxford is a great town. I've had a great time there before, and I'm guessing the reason LDP posted this is that he went up there and had fun fun fun too. Hell, all things considered, Oxford probably is the better town for most people (personal preferences vary obviously), but its definitely not far and away better as some would have you believe.

I think for the most part, the players get it. The rivalry is supposed to be fun. Its really not that damn serious. Hell, Marshall is a two-time transfer from somewhere in Texas I think. You really think he gives that much of a **** about the state/OM rivalry? You'd be a jackass or an idiot to really get bent out of shape about this kind of stuff, but luckily we know there are none of those on message boards or twitter.

I have no problem with Oxford. What I don't get is the uppity snob attitude everyone seems to have about Oxford. Hell, I moved here from Brentwood TN, a town that has the right to be uppity and snooty. However, that's not the case. I've met far more snobs in the few times I've been to Oxford than the 8 years I lived in Brentwood.

I think most were, at least the ones here in Oxford, and I think Marshall was one of them. The Nafoom thread was 14-12 with the majority who answered pulling for MSU. I realize that's a small sample size, but I think the overall sentiment around here was the same. It's great to see a non-traditional power win and it would be great to see a Mississippi school win. Hell, a lot of our fans were pulling for MSU just so there will be more heat on Bianco. I know you don't believe this, because we've talked about it before, but most of the Ole Miss fans I know really don't hate MSU.

Majority of OM crowd was probably pulling for State as was the majority of Mississippians, but this was baseball. Had it been football rest assured that there would have been a very small minority.

one thing is for DAMN sure, the city of oxford embraces ole miss while the city of starkville seemingly sees state as a hindrance. since nobody knows my story, im a huge bulldog fan, graduated from state in '05, and i am originally from jackson, ms. i am now an ole miss student and hate every second i have to be on campus, but one thing is for damn sure, the city of oxford loves and supports ole miss at every opportunity while the city of starkville is meh on the whole matter and doesnt seem to grasp that they could be mutually beneficial. some of you may disagree, but after 4 years in starkville, and now 2 in oxford, that is as clear as day to me.

the city of starkville needs to get it **** together when it comes to relations with msu. look at dixon's trip for super bulldog weekend....thats a 17ing embarrassment to the city and university and to me as an msu alumni. **** like that should NEVER happen, i dont care if it was at capacity or not. i dont know how to solve the problem, but there are no excuse for stuff like that.

not to hijack the tread, but whatever happened to that big development movement to make downtown starkville more pedestrian friendly with bike lanes, added green spaces, buried power lines, cohesion in building appearances, etc (i forget what it was titled, but it was basically a brainstorm of ideas to improve starkville)? thats the kind of stuff we need to get going to improve our situation.

I've lived in both Starkville and Oxford. The biggest difference I see with all else being equal is that Starkville comes across as a town with a college. Oxford, on the other hand, comes across as a college town. To me, there is a difference.

You must not know many OM fans then. I've lived in Oxford, and the sincere hatred for MSU that I experienced there was borderline scary. My neighbor was an MSU graduate and he had a $100 bulldog statue on his back porch that someone smashed against his door.

Almost literally every single OM fan that I have been around would turn into a pompus 13 year old girl if you brought up MSU.

2 things: 1st, you all need to understand that college athletes don't care

and they do not give a **** about the rivalry the way the fans do. Sure, some of them may really hate the other school, but the majority of them did not grow up with a daddy who was a 4th generation Kappa Sig at whichever school, who was raised to hate one or the other. Sure, they want their team to win and they play their asses off, but they have friends that play for the other school and they don't give a **** about the pettiness of the rivalry that shows up on message boards. For the most part, they went to one or the other, or came from out of state because of what the school they chose offered that set it apart from the other offers they got. It's plain and simple: the players do love their school but don't share the hatred that the fans engage in. (as a general rule, and of course their are exceptions)

2nd, this is the dumbest **** ever:

i am now an ole miss student and hate every second i have to be on campus,

You are retarded if you hate the fact that you are on Ole Miss' campus. Take a step back, sheathe your hatred and just enjoy the fact that you are on a beautiful campus stocked full of beautiful women (unless you aren't in to that, not that there is anything wrong with that). Both MSU and OM have GREAT campuses, full of great people, that are very easy to enjoy. Stereotype each side all you want, but every one of you has great friends that root for the other team. In the end, the majority of us are all Mississippians. It's a sports rivalry. Enjoy it as such and give the other side as much **** as you want. But that **** talking should be in good fun. No one should genuinely hate something as silly as "being on the OM campus". And both schools are more than stocked full of complete assclowns (Derek Dunn anyone?)

I hope we (MSU) win every single time we play them, and I am as big a sports fanatic as there is, but in the end its all a game. So LDP enjoys getting him some action in Oxford. It's not like he is the first person/player to do so, nor will he be the last.

The general consensus seems to be that this class fell into their lap because of connections, not the town of Oxford.

Plus that's just one class. Oxford has apparently been the be-all-do-all of pure awesomeness since Biblical times.

You're wrong.

I've lived in Oxford for 35 years. There's no sincere hatred for MSU here. I'm not going to get into an internet pissing match with you about it, but you're wrong.

I would like to give kudos to this thread. Way too sensible

And too much rational discussion for a message board. With the exception of our new poster Goat Jr., this has been interesting.

and I agree. I've had plenty of fun in Starkville. I also think I probably could have had fun at pretty much any college in the country. The idiots who have pure blind hatred for the other side are the loudest I think. My roommate in Memphis was from State, and I hung out with 10 other state guys. Good mix of both schools, and we never got into pissing matches. Hell, I have a state tshirt someone left at my house, and I wear it to the gym sometimes, and don't mind if people see me in it.

do I pull for MSU? Not often, but I don't get mad when you win. Teams I actively root against are Notre Dame, Duke, Tennessee, Bama, and a few others. The blind hatred crowd will always think the other side is the same, because they can't have a rational discussion in the first place.

Id have a beer or twelve with the majority of state fans on here. In Starkville or Oxford.

I think to pick out 1 positive attribute of either school and say, "success recruiting depends on this....." is ignorant. Oxford is seen as a positive attribute from OM recruiting, but so is coaching staff, connections, momentum, brothels in the IPF, SMU-type heppin', etc etc etc. The point is that to say its one thing or another is ridiculous
