Megan (the Ole Miss recruiter in Central MS) isn't hot. She's 300 lbs and she probably wears a tent for a dress. Childless cat woman. But because she can't attract a boyfriend she has extra time to recruit JA kids. Im sure she has a sweet personality.
Not talking about the JA/Prep exclusive one. The one that covers MC/Germantown/NWR/Brandon is different.

I vote for getting rid of the big TV and making the band a more prominent part of the game again.

Buy the dang band very nice dri-fit white OR maroon breathable polos without the croom era logo, MSU or State logo instead. Get everyone the SAME color matching PANTS in the same, breathable, stretch, new tech, material and make everyone buy or give them the SAME comfortable maroon Adidas shoes and then we at least look professional and like we care.
That would go a long way I think and make everyone quite bitching about the ugly mid-matched uniforms.

How about you read the thread before commenting? Then you would know that the idea of "mismatched" uniforms was a hoax.

And in literally 10 seconds of research you could confirm that the summer uniform has the current "Script State" logo.

FTR I’m not arguing for the full suit in the hot months. Just look professional and uniformed. I even think a MSU ball cap would look good.

Wait, are you just doing a bit?

If not, look at any of their social media pages and you'll see them wearing matching MSU hats...

This is not the best board to complain about the band or gameday atmosphere. The majority of the posters on here, who make the most noise, rarely attend sporting events or care about MSU being a winner. 99% of SPS posters have sh i t all over Selmon and Lebby for two years.

The band needs to act like a SEC band and elevate themselves. Having a good, professional SEC band just takes effort and coordination. Whoever runs the band the last 10-15 years has become lazy AF

I honestly don't get the discussion about this. It's the band. They are barely even part of the game anymore in Starkville. At other schools (LSU, Auburn, etc) - they are still a huge part. I enjoy the band and what they currently provide. If they stopped coming - it would suck. They are like LED lights - you have to have them even though it's not a move the needle thing.
I mean i don't really care one way or another but it seems like a simple fix.

1. Get a cooler uniform you can wear all the time. Have a coat that goes with it that you can bring or not bring when it gets cooler.
2. Get a summer uniform where everyone is matching.

Thats Good Donald Glover GIF

Kidding...kinda...well mostly...I think.

Obviously I want MSU to get as many of 'the best' that it can. I dont know how to measure the cost/value in some instances though. This is one such instance where I am not sure how harmed MSU would be if we didnt get the 4th best Trombone player in the state because they went to Ole Miss instead.

If the cost of the band were put elsewhere, in any number of places, would that actually give us better students in some other category/interest/major/activity?
Fitting that you used that loser as your gif.

They already have a summer uniform where everyone matches. It’s been repeated ad nauseum, in the Twitter thread linked in the OP and in this thread.
They weren’t wearing it in the photo because those weren’t band members, but high schoolers. Hopefully future band members.

Watching the UT/UGA game this past weekend, both bands were very loud and clearly added to the excitement and scene. I wish our band would get in on the action like that. Like make a difference.

I’ve got 2 kids in marching bands. One at ULL and another at LSU. LSU wears their band uniforms in all conditions. ULL will wear band polos and black shorts when it is extraordinarily hot. The one in the LSU band did wonder out loud if there was a uniform that was cooler temperature wise but could still look like a proper band uniform. She keeps a rechargeable fan with her that can be tucked inside the uniform for hot games. She did mention the other day the NIL has cut into their budget. Mostly seen in their food and drink provided on game days

I would rather the band have a good halftime show. The music selection getting to mediocre would be a Vast Improvement.

And now is the best of 1970s Diana Ross is just so boring that I honestly look forward to when they are done. It is amazing how a good show actually brings energy. Alcorn or JSU makes you want to actually watch and listen to the show.
Excuse me, sir, but that tribute was for DONNA FREAKIN SUMMER, not Diana Ross. I will expect a full retraction and apology in this week's SPS Magazine.

As long as it's in sync with "pump up the bass".
I honestly think if we created something called MCW - Mississippi Championship Wrestling - and created 6-8 personas and incorporated them into our sports experience, it would be ballsy and a huge success. Picture The Bassmaster (fish themed) and Roy D Cotton fighting the Kudzuligans for the Tag Team Championship at halftime of the UGA game. 100% would make ticket prices soar.

We should demand excellence in all things MS State. Especially when they're directly representing our university to a national audience.

I have 2 kids at State right now & the band is a hot topic of conversation within the student population. They don't like it.

I said it last week - its about looking professional and taking pride in yourself and your university. I get that its hot. I have some questions:

1. Is there a more "breathable" band uniform that could be used?
2. How do other schools manage, some in hotter climates?
3. Should there be a conditioning test? How does Alcorn do it - because they had some big uns.

Lonnie seems nice.

1. I'm sure the band would appreciate your $350,000 donation for cooler uniforms.

2. As has been said multiple times in this thread (and has been referenced in the tweet), the FMB has a coordinated, matching summer uniform.

If you want to be pissed at the band about something you’re picking the wrong thing in uniforms vs polos and shorts. If you want to be pissed about something be pissed about the fact that a lot of them are marching with sheet music. My freshman year in high school if you hadn’t fully memorized the program, you didn’t March on Friday nights. It takes less than an hour to memorize a song. If they’re marching with music then they are just in the band for the scholarship check and take no pride in the university.

I've used the Trump 'wrong' gif a bunch.

That is beside the point though. The point is that gifs are used for the point they express, regardless of(or sometimes because of) the gif's subject person.
It's one morething you insoncistently deride. You don't call out everyone who uses the Obama looking around meme or the Biden confused meme, even though you strongly dislike both of those people.

I can appreciate this point, and I usually memorized my music when I was in the band.

However, it's important to keep in mind that high school bands usually learn 1 show per year and practice more than double the weekly hours than the FMB, who does 4 or 5 halftime shows, plus a pregame show, every year. Plus college students generally spend more time studying and doing outside projects and just don't have as much free time. Doubleplus, the FMB has a lot more stand tunes and cheers that are also a good idea to memorize, so it just takes awhile to get everything all down, especially as a freshman.

The few times that I did take sheet music out there, I can assure you that I still took pride in the university.

The 4th best trombone player in the state is a 30+ ACT pre-med or engineering major who strives for excellence.
Or they could also have a 25 on the ACT, 3.2 GPA, be an Elementary Education major, and just be really good at trombone and passionate about it. Just because you’re really good at a musical instrument doesn’t make you a Rhodes scholar by default.

Its not about being the best band, its about being the best representative of the university that you can be.
This kind of contradicts your entire argument. A student who strives for educational excellence but also is in the band is going to choose the most excellent school and major for their situation. Then they’ll play in whatever band that is. A student who cares more about the band than the education is going to find a band they like the best, then probably give it a 70-80% effort on the classwork, at best. But the band isn’t ever going to be the deciding factor for the best of the best.

Same principle applies for a cheerleader, college football player, social / greek life enthusiast, or what have you.
