Where is the dislike button? I’m disgusted that a Reynolds fan would not pick us to win a home playoff game
Trust me I really want you to win, that’s no joke, I looked at their schedule and they have beat some really good teams. Please prove me wrong. Best of luck to all MAC teams!

It still cracks me up that Erwin got seeded ahead of Tuscola despite Tuscola having the better record, higher RPI and winning the head to head by 21.
Erwin won their conference title. Top 3A team in a split conference that finishes with .500 record or better. Not sure that’s fair but NCHSAA has always had some shady rules. I mean the whole RPI thing is a joke. Really, your opponents opponents record counts as much as your winning percentage! That’s stupid!

OMG are you serious. How the hell this happen? What made Erwin get the higher seed?

Erwin was seeded with the conference champions bc they were the #1 3A finisher in their conference, and had an overall record of 500 or better. Tuscola finished 2nd in their conference.

Thanks, man, I had covid, and my son did as well so it's been a long few weeks. Unfortunately, the Titans kind of fell apart late. They had the Erwin game won but decided to try a field goal to win it which got returned for a TD. If they win that game they are likely in the playoffs. They also led 20-0 over Erwin but fell apart late.

Oh I know why it happened and it was by default because they’re in a split conference. I don’t like that, especially in this scenario where it’s obvious that Tuscola is better by a mile.

Glad you’re feeling better! I was blown away when I saw the McDowell/Erwin finish, should have kept pounding for a TD. Wasted time and settled for FG attempt, not smart. A FG in high school is NEVER a guarantee!

I like the RPI, I think it does a great job at weighing the record as well as the strength of a schedule but counting teams in a certain class of a split conference as a "conference champ" in the playoff system, even if they finished 4th, is counterintuitive to the RPI. The RPI weighs the strength of record, the NCHSAA doesn't need to help teams even more while punishing teams who are obviously better.

opponents opponents winning percentage should not be 30% of the RPI. That is one aspect no team can control but it’s as important in the RPI as your own winning percentage (30%). How North Buncombe’s opponents do should not affect our RPI! They play a weak schedule and we can’t control that!

It has to be weighed heavily or else a strength of record wouldn't be accurate. It's the only way to differentiate how much beating particular teams matter. Sometimes beating a 7-2 team should be favored more heavily than beating 9-0 depending on who that 7-2 has played. You beat Roberson and Shelby this season, both are 6-4 but tell me which looks better on your résumé and for what reasons? It's most definitely Shelby because their losses have come to you, Burns, Crest and Kings Mountain. The RPI brings more context than any other ranking system, in my opinion.

Agree to disagree, I’ll never be convinced our opponents opponents record should count as much as our own winning percentage. We can control our schedule we can’t control our opponents opponents. I’m not saying it shouldn’t count at all just not equal amount as our own winning percentage.

Should Tuscola be ranked ahead of Dudley? They have the better record after all, no? That's the problem with only factoring in what you can control.

In HS football, what you can't control still says a whole lot about the strength of your record.

Again, I NEVER said it shouldn’t count, I said our opponents opponents record shouldn’t count AS MUCH as our own winning percentage.
