Al,

(1) this never happened.

(2) if it did I would find it very disturbing that you remembered such an interaction nearly 2 decades later. Really weird.

Get a life - create some memories beyond imagined ones from this message board

Get the mental health help you need. This whole interaction is truly bizarre.

I am putting you on my short list of ignored posters. You truly give me the creeps.

It absolutely happened as ***** like you are unforgettable.

You clowns came to my thread, to try to tear me down. I didn’t seek you out. Call me collect for all I care.
Nothing says I'm desperate for an out than this type of comment.

You backed yourself into this corner, no one forced you to post this ridiculous thread on the premium and free boards. And the response was basically the same on both boards. Maybe you're the issue not all of us.

Your assessment of the situation is invalid.
I spoke my piece as i am allowed to do. And no one has refuted anything I’ve said, as far as I’m concerned, though people are welcome to try. Some will agree, some will disagree. A vigorous exchange of ideas is good for everyone.

He'll say anything to prove himself right and make sure everyone but Schiano, including the fans, takes the blame for terrible football. Blaming the head coach! Madness!

You don’t understand the challenges of the football coaches. You’ve incorrectly focused your ire on the head coach and not acknowledged the root cause of the issue, which has been in place for generations.

Rutgers Football has never been properly capitalized making recruiting difficult. For example, Princeton fans supported a successful football program, which is why they have 15 National Championships, while we have zero. Princeton owns the All Time Series over Rutgers, going 53-17-1. After winning the first game, Rutgers never beat Princeton till 1938.

Rutgers Fans are willing to spend what they perceive as entertainment value. But This only pays for operational expenses. There is a capital infrastructure that needs to be built to attract recruits. Of course I am talking about the Football Fieldhouse. Michigan has two indoor facilities in place. A main one and an auxiliary annex, which is also used for tailgating.

Michigan has adequate infrastructure in place. Penn State has it in place. Maryland has it in place, Ohio State has it in place. We are doing without, and are doing the best we can.

It is difficult to be successful, when you are unable to successful recruit your first choice recruits. That’s why this job requires more effort than others.

Everyone wants a successful football program,But too many The fans have not done their share to facilitate a successful football program. You’ve openly admitted to being one of them. Which is why it’s confusing to me as to how you can criticize our most successful head coach, without helping to give him the tools to succeed.

Despite all the constraints, we are on track to having a winning program by year 6, two years ahead of his 8 year contract. It looks like the monster class of ‘24, is going to significantly resolve any remaining talent gap issues. And if we do it sooner, so much the better.

And there it is …

Gary Burnett takes *Northwestern to the Rose Bowl in year 3 and we should be thrilled we might have a winning season in year 4.

* which at the time there was no BTN, no big $$$, no real institutional support, no fieldhouse, no real facilities at all. But a Big 10 schedule.

***EDIT*** my mistake I meant year 6 because these next two years are “free”

What will we all do if Al is right and your team wins 6-7 games this season?

If we win 6 games this year then Al should bump this thread and I will admit that Schiano exceeded expectations this year! Trust me, I and I am sure many others want Al to be right despite not agreeing with his outlook at this point in time.

And let's not forget TOS. He goes for maximum attention whoring.

Just sad

Guy needs to find something to occupy his time/ attention beyond this pathetic message board persona he has created

The fact that he remembered me from 2 decades ago (and has this imagined memory of conversations with me and brgRC90….who wasn’t even on the board then LOL) is just sad. And really weird!!!

I had a dust up with some geezer on here a few weeks ago (i eventually backed off as I was getting the impression that he was legit. senile). While I remember the encounter , I can’t even remember the posters name. You know why? I have a million other things in my life beyond this message board. Sadly, it seems, Al does not.

I don't really see Al predicting 6 wins, though. Mostly he's making excuses in advance for NOT winning much or even scoring--for 2 more years. The title of the thread comes right out and says it.

Seems to be one of those guys who has staked way too much of himself, his identity and his being on his favorite sports team. There are many, the guys who get into fist fights at stadiums with opposing fans--over a sports team.

Why would he bump a thread where he says we shouldn’t expect to compete for 2 more years?

That wasn’t what was said. This is what was said.

Our record doesn’t matter the next two years, because we are still accumulating talent, and there probably isn’t enough talent to win, though we will do our best. I see our record in the range of 4-6 wins.

Record always matter. Actually it’s the only thing that matters. This isn’t tee ball.

You say it’s not what you said but then say “there probably isn’t enough talent to win”. In essence saying don’t expect to win the next 2 years (free years) Which is what I said.

I then clarified what I meant by saying I expect that we will win 4-6 games. That’s not saying don’t expect to win. That’s saying don’t expect to win more than 6 games, which is reasonable for where we’re at. We haven’t won’t 6 or more games since 2014, which is when we won something around 8.

al isn't making the argument that we'll have a 6 win season this year, he's saying that this year and next it doesn't matter how many wins we get. I think we're capable of 6 wins this year if our OL improves and Wimsatt takes a step forward.

Schiano just started in 2020. Takes time for kids to mature. Tyreem Powell and Max Melton were 3* , in Schiano’s first class, and will have an opportunity this year to be All American candidates and Day 1 draft picks.
There were 10 sophomores and 2 freshmen All Americans in 2021

There were 12 Sophmores (second year players) All Americans in 2022

Oh I forgot. You said Schiano hired inexperienced coaches who were only there to recruit (but not really) players and couldn’t properly develop Schiano’s first two classes.

Rutgers has never had a sophomore All American, at least in the modern era. Ray Rice probably deserved to be a sophomore All American, but even he was not named as such. Our lone All American in the modern era was Sr. Marco Battaglia. Just a weird assertion.

For us to get lucky and recruit a kid, who later was a sophomore All American, we would need the football Fieldhouse and NIL Support. Even that wouldn’t guarantee us, but it would significantly improve our chances.

I'll make it easy for you: Schiano is never to blame and gets unlimited time to make the team decent. Simple.

Al, how about a petting zoo and lazy river in addition to a field house. those things would propel recruiting success even more dramatically. imagine what Schiano’s record would be if he had all of those !! I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

He’s not. He’s basically saying if Wimsatt is able to step his game up, we’ll be a lot better. But if not, we’re going to suck again because even with improvements in all other areas, we won’t be good enough to overcome a QB who can’t complete short, safe throws consistently. It’s a huge liability if that doesn’t change but whether some of you like it or not, Wimsatt’s failure to materialize at RU as a QB would not be point blank blamed on coach Schiano up front. He would get a chance to bring in another guy behind center. Hence - the 2 more years though the second year wouldn’t exactly be “free”. The team would have to show real promise. And if Wimsatt hypothetically transferred and turned out to be a star somewhere else after busting at RU that would also make Schiano look bad.

1. Schiano has had more than enough time to fix this, and this team has shown almost no progress since h is first day back on the job
2. I see no signs that we'll win 6 games this year. The oline is still mediocre at best, the QB is inaccurate, and the WRs are not B1G quality playmakers.
3. To claim the next 2 years don't matter as if paying customers shouldn't expect to get what they paid for over the next two years, after not getting what they paid for over the last eight years, is borderline offensive at this point.

I'm almost always criticized by my friends for being too optimistic with this program. But I've reached the breaking point. Ten years with no ROI. Now they want us to by players directly as well via NIL? That part is 100% insulting, and the reason I gave up my season ticket. But I give Al the benefit of the doubt and think he just phrased things awkwardly.

I guess you’re right. But now it makes sense that schools like Pitt, Kansas St, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati can produce multiple Freshmen/Sophomore All Americans because they’re magicians. Or that they had the experienced coaches that didn’t like to recruit but developed these youngins into All Americans…

Or something like that lol.

It doesn't take a magician to turn a football team around in four years.
Bilema did it in two years at Illinois.

Leopold turned Kansas around in two

Franklin turned Vandy around first year.

Lea turned Vandy around in two (with some from Jersey BTW).

Maryland/ Rutgers we’re evenly bad until Locksley got there.

It takes a magician to turn Rutgers around in four years, due to lack of support.

Other programs already have everything in place to turn things around quickly. This is what our fanbase doesn’t understand.
