Our prep for this has been bad. However this whole thing has been about putting. Which is talent but also a degree of luck. I’d guess the ball striking stats are pretty even. The euros have fairly average putters who can’t miss. The US teams good putts all lip out. The mistake was giving them flat, slow greens which is more comfortable for European players. That baffles me. This course should have been set up US Open hard.
They set the fairways and rough up as if Bryson was going to tee off for everybody on every hole. Agree on the greens.

Follow up to that last statement. What are the thoughts on the captain’s picks based on course setup?
I don’t really think he had a lot of options. Henley and Spaun auto qualified. I like those guys but I don’t think birdie fests are their forte. He just flat should have set the course up differently. Made sure if at all possible it played hard and fast, tightened fairways, and grew rough up like an Open. May not have really mattered the way Europe has played, but I would have liked our chances a lot better.

I would tend to agree. Make the course US Openesque.

He didn't have much to pick from, IMO. It all comes down to putting and Europe would have mowed down anyone in their path with that insane display of rolling the rock.

Absolutely embarrassing on practically everyone involved for the US team.

When your coach is interviewed for the very first time right before the matches started on day one and he says "Go Johnnies, Go USA", you know it's amateur hour. Go Johnnies? Really? At that moment????

At least the US players got the pay raise they fought for. Tiger, Phil and David Duval would be proud. They were innovators in demanding their cut of the Ryder Cup pie in the late 90s. They should've given every cent back based on their records.

It's already over, may as well be a bloodbath. I hope Bryson in particular gets obliterated tomorrow.

Bryson tried to get his team fired up more than anybody, I hope he wins 5 US Opens just to stick it to his haters.

I think he’s a great player, not a hater. But you are an idiot if you think he is a leader which is what you imply by saying he is trying to fire up the team and no one is willing to follow because they think he is a buffoon.

Hovland injured and will not play singles.
Match is halved with English.
Euro's need 2 points today.

And that rule needs changed.
Why not have 4 more guys claim injuries.

I think (not a 100% sure) after the envelope rule is used anyone else that couldn’t play would forfeit the full point.

Hatton gagged a makeable putt. Pressure is building on Europe. It's gonna come down to the last 3 matches it looks like.

Helluva effort today. But it shouldn’t mean the US team doesn’t need to make changes to their approach to this. Shane Lowery said this is the biggest thrill of his life. He’s won a British Open. That kinda sums up why we struggle. They gotta figure out how to at least compete in alternate shot. And they need to figure out how to set up a golf course at home to play to their guys strengths. The US should have a deeper more talented roster most years. They shouldn’t be losing this thing this often.

Great effort by the USA team. They just dug themselves too deep a hole to climb out of. Euros played phenomenal Friday and Saturday. USA played well yesterday but Euros played even better.

Ehhh . . . I don't know. You can't hear what's actually being said to the players. Some of it may be over the top. I did think it was great when Mcintyre made a great putt and turned and blew kisses to the crowd. 🤣
I am almost sure one guy yelled at Rory and asked if he wanted him(spectator) to F his wife for him. I hope the guy was shown the door but probably wasn't.

Sheffler said Bryson was indeed their emotional leader. Anyone that can come back from 5 down and beat a top pro has really played incredible! I am a Bryson fan, others aren't, that's fine!

Try not to miss the sarcasm man.
But the rule needs changed.

It sucks but Hovland won his foursomes match on Saturday, then had to scratch Saturday afternoon, when he was supposed to play again. So it is not like he just made it up out of thin air to get out of a sure *** whipping. And the US has had two players sit out singles in past Ryder Cups and got 1/2 point as well.

I don't like it but what rule would you propose to make it more fair? Have a 13th player on hand as a substitute only in the event of an injury? That might work, but you could game the system there as well, i.e., a player that has played like crap for two days could conveniently announce an injury and allow Mr. 13 to step in.

13-15 players per team?
Pick the 12 that can go on Sunday and everybody has to earn their points.

I agree on the alternate player being possibly abused. Maybe more than the injury situation. I don’t think it was “unfair” in this case if that’s what is agreed upon but it is kind of stupid to award a player a half point that didn’t play. My rule would be if you can’t play, you lose the match. I think that separates those that can’t play and those that feel they can’t play as well as they would like.

How does that separate the two situations? Hovland has had neck problems all year and had to pull out of Travelers earlier this year (at least I think that is what was said on TV yesterday). If you are hurt, you are hurt. Not sure what else you can do that would be fair.

In any other sport, if you can't compete, you are DQ's. No way a player should get .5 and not compete. I hate that rule. Look at it like this, what if the score ended up 13.5-13.5 and Hovland / English was the final match ? Should he get a half point and it end in a tie ?

One thing I will never let Bradley off the hook for, sending out the worst of a possible 130 different pairings, not once but twice. Also, Ben Griffin should have played more. AND the one guy he had on his team being from NY and knew the course better than anyone, Cam Young most definitely should have.

One suggestion is practice the alternate shot format more. Maybe during practice rounds of the PGA Tour the year Ryder Cup is played. Euor guys do it, might want to copy that. Couldn't hurt, can't do any worse than they did.
