Basically, what I've seen a lot of posters saying about our DL is that we've got a lot of players who are going to be good. Problem is, nobody really knows how good these players are going to be. Yeah, if they all turn out to be as good as people on his board are hyping them up to be, we'll be fine on the DL. Never mind that it's completely unrealistic to think that all of them, or even most of them, will be as good as they're being hyped up to be. Most recruits don't live up to the hype.

We definitely needed help this year...

but next year, not so much.

Remember when our staff was urgently rushing to get Quay Evans in school last spring? They were doing that because they knew we needed to fill the hole Fletcher Cox left. Unfortunately for Quay, he couldn't keep his head on straight preventing him from playing in some key games this year.

Next year, we're going to be able to use Quay, Nick James, Jordan Washington, and Nelson Adams on the D-Line (along with PJ)... and we also get Denico, Preson Smith, Ryan Brown, Torrey Dale, AJ Jefferson, Chris Jones, and John Harris on the edges.

I'm cautiously optimistic... but you can't help but be excited to see what guys like Quay and Nick can do now that they've got their feet wet. If those two stay out of trouble, our D-Line should excellent.

You play guys when they have the natural skillset to be 3 year players regardless. Nothing is worse than redshirting a guy that still goes to the NFL as a rs SO. If anyone thinks Quay and Nick James are in this for their degree, they are kidding themselves...

If you look at it realistically from our recruiting front, it is obvious what our coaching staff thinks. They've gone after nationally elite JUCO prospects -- but have proven we won't take anything less this year. If there was a desperate, immediate need, why wouldn't we be recruiting other decent JUCO guys to fill those slots? That answer is pretty simple.

If you think Chris Low knows more about our team than we do, I really don't know what to tell you. He's not looking at the young guys we have -- nor the young guys we redshirted this year.

and that's why Engie remains the #1 ranked State poster again this week

Quay was a beast when he played. He would have played a lot more if he wouldnt have smarted off to someone and didnt miss class ocassionally.

In hindsight you are right- we should have gotten a JUCO DT last year.

Don't think another JUCO DL would have solved our problems. Josh Boyd wasn't Fletcher Cox 2.0. We had a rs freshman playing the mike (not that he played bad or anything). Cherry played because nobody else wanted to play. Did Virges redshirt this year?** We got almost no pass rush on the outside. When they did (Preston Smith/Ryan Brown) they were quickly demoted. If we're going to suck at defense, I'd rather suck with underclassman (that goes for all defensive positions).

Just to beat the drum one more time... State could have elite linemen across the front, and State would find a scheme to minimize their ability.
