I liked episode 3.5. My wife and Daughters loved it. They teared up when they realized they weren't getting out.
I thought it was really good. I get the character development argument but tell me this, if you sat down without ever knowing anything about Star Wars and watched A New Hope, you would say the same thing about it. It's a good movie and one of my favorite SW movies but it's slow as hell. liked Rogue One much better than The Force Awakens. That third act was insane and very well done.
It's one thing to develop characters for an entire trilogy. You can't quite spend as much time doing that for a one-off movie where you know that most of these characters aren't in any of the other movies.
I thought it was really good. As good as I could've hoped in all honesty, because I didn't really have huge expectations.

It was exactly right because you knew the characters were going to die. This movie was a tragedy in the dramatic sense of the word. The characters were going to die. You knew they were going to die, even if you didn't want them to. They didn't want to throw total badasses (except for Chirrut aka Asian Obi-wan) and Mary Sues (I'm looking at you, Rey) at us. They showed us the common schmoes that were being trampled and used by the empire, and ultimately they got trampled (or rather gloriously blown up). The rebel leaders were shown to be weak and ineffective, and ultimately they were thrown into the action because the lowly decided they had had enough and were gonna 17 the empire's **** up.

Loved it. I liked TFA pretty well, but I think South Park's criticism of it was pretty spot on.

Literally my only issues with film are that I disliked the Vader/Krennic scene, and CGI Tarkin was not quite right. Maybe Cassian should have died after getting shot and Jyn has to save herself - but that's nitpicking.
It told a complete story, made me care about a few characters and enjoy watching the rest, and gave me just enough of the bad guys. Space battle was great, especially enjoyed seeing them splice in some red squadron and yellow squadron pilot footage from Ep IV, and we got to see blue squadron that was decimated in the attack.
Watching Jyn Erso watch her father's holotape was a quiet moment, but possibly my favorite of the film. Great acting on both sides, I love Mads Mikklesen.

On Christmas Day, my college age boys chose to watch Rogue One and the wife and I chose Passengers. The wife and I really enjoyed Passengers and didn't regret not watching Rogue One. The boys really enjoyed Rogue One and didn't regret not watching Passengers. I am not sure if this means we are officially no longer cool or that we are no longer allowed to sit at the nerd table.
What is sad is I am of the age that I was a teen when the original Star Wats hit theaters and consider myself a sci-fi fan and I have never watched a complete SW movie. I have watched bits and pieces on TV but never watch a complete movie. I loved Space Balls though.
I agree. They will release too many movies too fast and folks will grow tired of it. That was the genius of the creator. Keeping them wanting more for a long time.

Spot on analysis of the movie. I loved it as well. I liked TFA in spite of the fact it had to pay homage and create new storylines.
I think VIII is going to be great. There are many, many directions it can go outside the obvious and Luke can create some serious changes because he had to use both sides of the force in his story.

Loved the movie. New droid is hilarious. Only complaint I have about the movie was how easy three of the AT-AT Walkers went down. I know it's nitpicking but it bothered me when one of the rebels took down the Walker with basically an RPG. I was however bothered big time with the 17ing 3D glasses Regal gave us to wear after dropping $100 on tickets. IMAX3D is fantastic if you don't have the most uncomfortable glasses invented bothering your face for 2 hours. Does anyone make a comfortable pair of 3D glasses? Regal sure don't.
