The first week of district play brought an electric atmosphere and pure excitement. The bar is set very high for week #2, and the schedule is full of great games. LCA and JF will keep the scoreboard operator busy all night. As always, anything can happen in the Seminole.

EC Glass (4-0, 1-0) at Brookville (3-1, 0-1)

The Bees are looking to rebound after last week. Amherst was able to contain the high powered offense, and this week they face a vaunted Glass defense. Stinger stadium is a very tough place to play and Brookville will try to use the home field to their advantage.

Hilltoppers captured the Jug last Friday at City Stadium, and are bringing their undefeated record. Jadan Merriman is proving to be a force upfront for a defense that is allowing 18 points per game, with a lot of those coming when the game is in hand. Jeff Woody arrived at EC Glass in 2015 and took over a team that was 3-7 the year before and last had a winning record in 2005. Everything has changed and now he looks to win at a place that holds a lot of fond memories.

LCA (2-2, 1-0) at JF (2-2, 1-0)

Bulldogs- LCA can light up the scoreboard in a hurry. The passing offense was on display last week at Williams Stadium as Rylann Stamm gashed the Rustburg defense all night. The Bulldogs will be playing their first Seminole road game this week, and are hoping to add to their district win column.

Cavaliers- With O’Donnell back under center the offense is in full throttle mode. They have added a tremendous passing attack to the arsenal. The offense is averaging 40 points per game and the special teams proved last week that they can turn the game in a blink of an eye.

Amherst (2-2, 1-0) at Rustburg (2-2, 0-1)

Lancers- Frank Ross was in full effect last week, and will look to add to his rushing total again this week. Without question Amherst has played the toughest four games of anyone. Their opponents combined record to this point is 11-4.

Red Devils- The defense had issues last week containing a vaunted LCA offense. This group is working hard, but the inexperience is a tough hill to climb. Rustburg returns home after three straight road games and are looking to change things up a little. Grayson Harvey made two tremendous touchdown catches last week.

Liberty (2-2, 0-1) at Heritage (3-1, 0-1)

Minutemen- Special teams hurt the Bedford bunch last week. Allowing big returns for touchdowns put Liberty in a bind early. After an explosive start they are in a tough stretch of games.

Pioneers- The high powered offense was held down last week, but they are still averaging 39 points per game. They come into this game with a renewed fire and passion, and will feature a steady dose of Elijah Davis.

Glass vs Brookville game is huge!
LCA vs JF is also interesting but I think LCA takes it.
I agree with you that both these games are huge. I was thinking about going to Brookville, but there is something about that JF/LCA game. The team that loses between them will be in deep trouble for playoff seeding with 3 losses in a very, very tough Class 4 region.
I'm thinking Glass, JF, Amherst, Heritage

Yes I agree. If Amherst had a bye it would be a hard choice as to what game to attend. That is why I wish the VHSL didn't have all the byes in the same week

EC Glass and Brookville will be a great game. Without letting out too much info on here, Some things were said after the Heritage win that has gotten Brookville mad. Just some classic smack talk. I will definitely be at Brookville friday to cheer on Coach Woody and the Hilltoppers!

Woody said in his post game remarks to his team he hated Brookville. People on social media blew it waaay out of proportion. His job is to motivate his players by whatever way he chooses.

Good stuff Newleather! Best district west of Richmond!
I appreciate it @DSH and @lyhsports Coming from you guys that is a tremendous compliment.
I try to take information from every coach I talk to and share the positive things I hear for every team. These young men are working their tails off and the least I can do is applaud their effort. To be a high school student today is difficult, for those that agree to be student athletes the bar is raised even higher and they each have my utmost respect.

I wish GW and Rustburg could switch districts. I think it would be ideal for both teams.
Interesting thought. There was a discussion on this board before the season started about this topic. Logically, Rustburg should be in the Dogwood district. The location would be ideal, and they could be more competitive week to week with two established rivalry games (AltaVista and Appomattox). The Piedmont would not really be the best choice due to the travel.
For GW, the Seminole would be a better fit for school size, and competitive balance. The Eagles games with JF and Amherst were both tremendous.

Exactly. How is GW supposed to get ready for playoff football against the likes of Patrick County, Tunstall, Bassett, Martinsville, etc.

Danville has no business in the Piedmont. Rustburg to the Dogwood and put Halifax and GW in the Seminole. I think it would probably be the best district in the state from top to bottom regurdless of class. Seminole is already strong, but adding GW would be huge. It's the Big 10 of high school football. I'd say the Capital District is the SEC.
