This was one of my favorite things we did. Absolutely Epic.
I agree with most that the band needs some unique, engaging tunes for each down. For some insight on how it's currently done, there is a set list of 8-10 offensive and defensive "cheers" and they just run through the set list after each play if it's neutral or positive. I really wanted to work to develop some unique cheers that we play for each down (LSU's Tiger Band does this... and it's awesome to see how they engage the crowd...). We tried this at one point and I don't understand why they gave up on it... part of it is the drum majors at the time had an extremely hard time with it. Go State is the defacto "first down" cheer, but there are some other unique things they can build on. Right now, there's no real pattern to when songs are played and it's common cheers (Go, Go... O Fortuna, etc.).
