This was part of my point for making the MSU athletic department salary thread a few months back. I don’t like making suggestions about job cuts, but in this day of revenue sharing and tightening budgets, that sure was a crap ton of overhead and six figure salaries

Lot of athletic depts gonna be evaluating which positions are needed & which ones aren’t. If you’re making $100,000+ and can’t directly tie what you do to make a revenue generating sport better on the field, enhance the customer experience or raise funds, you might want to keep your resume updated.

Athletics departments have been bloated for a long time, made possible by not having to directly pay the athletes. I think rev share making departments function like a real business is a good thing.
Why do we celebrate people getting fired in this country? I mean didn’t we all like the old system better? I think at least 80% of us would say yes. Even if it was bloated, which is still sort of suspect, as evidenced by this article and rumors of all these non revenue sports getting cut.

Some things maybe should not be run as businesses, and instead looked at as investments in our future.

MSU also needs the DOGE treatment.
Ha. So cut off everyone's travel cards and purchase cards. So no more traveling for recruiting or ncaa regional until Salmon flys to Washington to explain why the baseball team needs to travel.
If approved for travel after a trip to dc, players can book their own rooms and buy their own sandwiches.
Justin Parker is your new coach. Because we are no longer hiring. Also, he will get the title but no raise. Because.... bloat.
Those LEDs.... they can sit in the street because your contract was just cut ..... bloat.
The grass needs cutting? .... to bad, contract cut.

on and on and on

I definitely don’t celebrate people getting fired but due to athletic departments taking in millions for years without having to share any with players, coaches and administrators have made way too much. I suspect there will be a reckoning of that to some extent.

My church's membership has volunteers to do the menial chores around the facility. Mow the grass, landscape, clean the building, clean the bathrooms, basic repairs, etc. No reason MSU couldn't get employees, players, and admin types including coaches do the same. Ron Polk did a lot of stuff by himself that's now done by paid MSU staff. Maybe go back to cutting some costs like that. We saved thousands of dollars per month at our church with that participation by members.

The players have never truly been the labor. The fans have. The players benefit. Fakest news of it all was that players run the show. It’s fan passion that drives it. We will find that out eventually.

This is not the NFL, no matter how many people want it to be.

Without NIL and rev sharing, MSU spends well over $100k per year per student athlete. Tuition, housing, meals, spending cash, healthcare, apparel, academic support, etc.

I am not against them making money off NIL or even revenue sharing but the notion they get “nothing” and are “slave labor” is asinine.

These major conference Athletic Departments will be adding $22 million of new cost this academic year (assuming the House settlement is approved), so they are all going to have to cut some expenses and possibly even gawd forbid operate like a business instead of a gubmint agency.
Nah man the gubment is great at what they do!!

I’d rather the revenue generated by college sports go to college athletes than someone who doesn’t bring as much value. People who bring value are safe.
