Albemarle alumni wins his 9th state title...

Tom Knotts is probably one of the best high school coaches in U.S. history. I wouldn't be surprised if they make a movie about him...being honest.

That's pretty impressive to win at the 5A level in SC. What's the story on Tom Knotts? Didn't know he was from Albemarle?

Yep, straight outta Albemarle. Went to Duke I believe, coached there one year, and went off to obliterate at the high school level.

Funny thing is, I heard he interviewed at Albemarle but was turned down for the position lol..

Poor decision by Albemarle not to hire that guy looking back I guess huh. Like the old country song... "What might have been" lol.

Did he ever coach at the HS level in NC?

He led Harding to the state title game when they were one of the two smallest 4A schools back in the day when there was subdividing.

Three title games with one win at West Charlotte.

Won two at Indy before subdividing. Won four more. He coached at Duke the 2004 year when his longtime assistant coached the team to the title.

Dutch Fork won four games each of the two years before he arrived in 2010. Third year they played in the title game. Played in four of last five.

Retired from NC when he got 30 years in the system after the 2009-2010 school year.

In all fairness to Albemarle he had never coached when they went opposite direction. He took assistant job at Indy and was the QB coach for Mark Maye and Chip Ferguson.

Mark Maye is the father of Luke Maye I believe

You are right about him applying for the job at Albemarle. He was actually working as a manager at a trucking company in Charlotte at the time and later went back to Duke to get his teaching certificate and the rest is history.
