Couple of things... If Tommy scrambled more we might have three more victories minimum, or an injured QB... It's not a fair assumption on your part. I do agree that the potential is there...Nebraska's offensive points scored output is on the coaching staff. They are getting yards but are not converting. They are wanting Tommy to stay in the pocket as long as possible. His footwork is still terrible as he does not have good balance and routinely throws off his back foot. If they would tell him to start taking a rush lane and scramble (boy did NW slam us on that), this team would have 3 more wins minimum. But this staff is showing how stubborn it is. You can't take a running QB and have him throw the ball 40+ times per game. It just does not work. I do however think that they could have had Tommy sit for a couple series after the pick 6 to let him calm down and see what they were doing.
I don't know if we will be better off with or without Tommy until Fyfe has been given the opportunity to show everyone what he has. But from the video shown in the article, it seems that players are not too concerned. It is a common theme that it don't matter who throws the ball, they have to catch it.
Someone mentioned the drops by the receivers. Some are in the belief that if a ball hits your hand you should catch it. I don't believe that as many balls are very bad throws that a receiver makes a great play to attempt to catch it but just can't.
And regarding the drops, from what I have seen, many of the drops have been decent throws, certainly not all. But find me a coach in America that will say, "if the ball hits you in the hands and you drop it, it all depends on the quality of the throw." The bottom line is if it hits you in the hands (plural) you better haul it in.
