Tommy "injury"

Nebraska's offensive points scored output is on the coaching staff. They are getting yards but are not converting. They are wanting Tommy to stay in the pocket as long as possible. His footwork is still terrible as he does not have good balance and routinely throws off his back foot. If they would tell him to start taking a rush lane and scramble (boy did NW slam us on that), this team would have 3 more wins minimum. But this staff is showing how stubborn it is. You can't take a running QB and have him throw the ball 40+ times per game. It just does not work. I do however think that they could have had Tommy sit for a couple series after the pick 6 to let him calm down and see what they were doing.

I don't know if we will be better off with or without Tommy until Fyfe has been given the opportunity to show everyone what he has. But from the video shown in the article, it seems that players are not too concerned. It is a common theme that it don't matter who throws the ball, they have to catch it.

Someone mentioned the drops by the receivers. Some are in the belief that if a ball hits your hand you should catch it. I don't believe that as many balls are very bad throws that a receiver makes a great play to attempt to catch it but just can't.
Couple of things... If Tommy scrambled more we might have three more victories minimum, or an injured QB... It's not a fair assumption on your part. I do agree that the potential is there...

And regarding the drops, from what I have seen, many of the drops have been decent throws, certainly not all. But find me a coach in America that will say, "if the ball hits you in the hands and you drop it, it all depends on the quality of the throw." The bottom line is if it hits you in the hands (plural) you better haul it in.

Particularly if he had already been fighting turf toe. But, they have called QB runs, so it's not like they are completely trying to protect him.

And here is the other thing: coaches will be judged 2-3 years down the line. They are trying to get their system up and running this year. They are trying to showcase it for recruits. They are trying to get receivers and linemen to run the system. They might be able to win more games this year if they were to run out of the I, or do a lot of read of option, or scramble more, but that doesn't necessarily get them closer to their target. It is unlikely that Langsdorf will be a good OC running Osborne's or Beck's offense. He might be a good OC running his offense, once he gets the players he needs for it and folks have been learning it for 2-3 years. He obviously believes he will be, as does Riley. I have my doubts, but my doubts are inconsequential. Any coach - whether it's Osborne, Solich, Callahan, Pelini/Beck, or Riley/Langsdorf - deserves to be judged on their approach, not their best mimicry of someone else's system.

Is it for sure ...turf toe? I don't normally post stuff I hear from my friends son. But he was pretty sure that's what it was

Might as well throw the F out of it and see what happens.

TA played the first 4 games with consistent completion %'s in the 70's , except he would have one bad quarter of reverting to his old form, DROPPING the overall %.
In the first two B1G games he completed in the 30%'; there were articles ; he reverted to his previous habits, mainly . Even when he is having one bad quarter; they won't rest him and talk with him, building experience for another qb. tOSU coach wouldn't put up with this, but somehow these guys know all.
TA is a great hs qb, but potential alone doesn't get it done now; if you are melting down into the 30 per cents after all this time; you need to be rotated - and that interception last week was a mental error as bad as the Michigan punters.

Prediction:

Fyfe plas well versus an awful Purdue team. He looks like the perfect fit for Riley system.

Armstrong is back for state and looks awful and we lose.

Everybody fights.

Fyfe looked better!
But it was against Purdue.

This staff seems bent on that> Also blame the non = rotated oline; maybe get them on the kicking units too; they can get in even better shape and of course they are such a level up from other potential players. I bet some of the larger lb's could give them a go in the forth quarter.

Well, like others have said, this season is kind of toast for most of the goals, so getting some other guys some extended playing time is a good thing in my opinion. You still want to win games, but it isn't going to hurt to move some chess pieces around.

As to the line rotation, that vid of Cavanaugh makes him look like a stubborn baby. His excuse is rotating in a different player might cause a mental mistake that screws up everyone else.. hmmm Not buying that at all. Another guy that is probably ready for retirement.

Just don't see it. I could be way wrong, but people love Fyfe because he is the homegrown boy. At this point I'd rather have Bush or Darlington take over as they will be around the next couple of years. We are already 3-5, why not use the youngsters.

So Tommy gave up a 75 yard drive for a TD against Illinois.. After converting 3rd and 18 on his own.And leading us to a TD drive, He allowed Wisconsin to drive 55 yards in 3 plays to kick the game winning field goal

Just tell the defense they don't have to play, Apparently were suppose to score every drive no matter how many drop TDs our receivers have,

He's not great by any means, but the stupidity when it comes to Tommy is amazing sometimes.

He's hurt because our OL sucks.

I haven't seen anything out of Fyfe when he's played. Generally looks like he gets the yips IMO.

I would rather see Bush or Darlington and get some sense for whether one of them might be a "gamer" who somehow just flips that switch on Saturdays. We know Fyfe is not part of the puzzle next year and beyond. May as well see if we have anything in one of the young guys.

Oh and run the ball about 50 times.

The blessing in that scenario is that it's evidence that the right QB can fix a lot of what's wrong with this offense. And TA won't just be handed the job because he's a senior with experience.
