1941 Egg Bowl. Beat Mississippi 6-0 to win SEC championship. Only gave up 7 points in 5 conference games. But only scored 40. Football must have been a pretty boring sport back then.

1. Ending of Auburn 2014. Best feeling I ever had as a State fan.

2. Dak’s run against LSU 2014. I was sitting in the end zone that he ran into. Seeing and hearing Death Valley go silent as I realized we were about to really become something special, man that was great.

3. Jonathan Banks pick six of Tebow right before half. I’ll never forget it, I was at a Halloween party with family who were all Ole Miss fans and we were watching the game, and everybody had swore up and down that the Mullen hire was a fluke and Florida would beat us by 40. When that play happened, it was like everybody in the room realized we were really on the rise. We lost, but I didn’t care. Great moment.

4. Ending of Egg Bowl 2013. It was cold as hell, but my gosh it’s just my favorite egg bowl ever.

5. The Costello game. I kinda hate looking at it in hindsight, knowing now that it was a little flukey, but seeing Leach come in and go down there and whip LSU in game 1 was just about the most mind-boggling thing at the time. But it felt so great in the moment. RIP Coach.

Dak's iconic TD run at LSU. That stiff arm! Oof.

Fans tend to point to the Auburn game as the most memorable moment of the ‘14 season, and rightfully so, but Dak’s run against LSU will always be the one that I remember most. It was the moment that I knew we were about to beat LSU’s a$$ and that we were about to have a special year

This won't make any other lists, I know, but I distinctly remember one single moment when I realized things were about to be different. The one moment when I thought, "holy crap, we might actually be good" and "dang, we could actually put up a fight here" when I didn't think it was possible.

2014, Baton Rouge, first quarter. We are driving and I've been drinking, so it's fun, but I know as always it will end up in a punt or maybe at best a field goal. They always stop us eventually. We just can't beat these guys. They're in our heads. Been in our heads since the 80's. Something always happens. But hey, glad we're driving, at least we are showing we will be competitive this year for a change. That's nice. Oh look at that, Dak is throwing it to the left side to somebody on an out route - nice idea, but I'm sure it will sail out of the endzone so we'll kick the FG. Take the points, that's fine... HOLY SHITTTTTTTTTTTTT DID HE CATCH THAT ONE HANDED???

Dak to Bear. I'll always remember that moment, the rest of that game, and the wild ride the next few weeks. Good damn times.
Since we’re talking about Bear, he had another big moment in that game that I’ll never forget. At some point later in the game when LSU had gained momentum, and it seemed like they were starting to figure our offense out, we had a crucial 3rd and fairly short play where we simply couldn’t give them the ball back.

Dak took the snap and looked to his left where there was an army of LSU guys, and it looked like the play was blown up from the start. But just when it looked like it was time to panic, Dak spun around to his right where Bear had stepped back behind the line of scrimmage, and he flung him the ball with blockers in front of him. We picked up the first down and I’m 90% sure scored on the drive. Either way, that play completely turned the tide back in our favor, and I don’t think we win without it. One of Mullen’s greatest play calls ever

solid moments here for sure. Norwood putting away the gators in the final seconds on a 30-yd td run was pretty special too. Not sure it was a top 5, but he is a great bulldog that always gave max effort.

Tyson Lee’s TD jump pass to beat LSU in Mullen’s first year.

Oh, wait…if only Lee had been 4” taller….
As I was reading this I couldn’t help but think that we lost that game. Then I got to your last sentence.

Mullen couldn’t have asked for an offensive group that was more mis-matched for his offense. A tiny QB and a bruiser RB was never in his cards, but he adjusted and got 5 wins. And we were so close to 6, as you say, only 4” away.

Moments that are stuck in my brain about MSU football. Many have been mentioned already so here are a few more "less significant" ones.

Michael Davis long TD runs. It happened multiple times where we were 3rd and short and he ran straight ahead, got through the line, and was gone. Michael only ran straight ahead.

Eric Moulds, possibly the most gifted player in MSU history, made a TD catch in the year that a rule clarification made catches in the end zone only require an instance of control necessary. He dove and got his hands on the ball just above the ground. He proceeded to almost do a cartwheel on top of the ball which went flying away from him when it hit the ground but the rule was once you had possession in the end zone the play was over. The next season they added the whole survive the ground thing.

Larry Friday made a brick wall hit on a receiver. He separated the receiver from the ball and was standing there like Superman over a crumpled Lex Luther.

Easy # 1:

Wow. I'm still amazed at some of the individual effort that won us that game.

Edward Smith's back to back sacks were huge to get the ball back.
Madkin avoiding the sack on 3rd down.
Hazelwood of course with the clutch gene.
And Kelvin Love... maybe my favorite somewhat underappreciated WR ever. That dude.

1. Beating Bama in 96
We had been so close so many times. They had the ball and were approaching midfield, needing only a field goal to win. Everyone assumed that's what they'd do, because that was who they were. They had to try to convert a 4th down. They threw it to a receiver in the left flats and they dropped it as our guy knocked it away. Just the overall feeling that we had done it - the amazing realization it was true, it was real that we had beaten them.

2. Beating Auburn to become No. 1 - specifically the fumble recovery early in the game - it dawned on me at that moment there may be new and different days possible for State fans.

3. Beating Florida on the Thursday night game in the early 90s - Steve Superior, Shane Matthews - back when a national audience and a Thursday night game was a big deal - almost like a mini-Game Day. We lost Sleepy for good that night but didn't know until later.

4. Beating Arkansas in 98 to clinch the trip to Atlanta. The Egg Bowl win ensured a non-tie for the SEC West, but the Arkansas game clinched Atlanta. I worked for the media then and was standing under the right upright when the kick went through. It wasn't as close to missing as it looked, but it made my heart skip a beat nonetheless.

5. The Tennessee game with the TE Watkins TD catch set up by the Moulds 4th down conversion.

Stadium has come a long long way!!
No doubt. And I noticed the lack of bells... listen to the crowd after the FG. We would all be deaf if it happened now. I guess this was in the middle of the period where they were checking and taking up cowbells at the gate. What a crock of shiit.

None of yours would be on my list. We're talking top five all time?

Bama fumble recovery 1980
Madkin to Sirmones Egg Bowl 1999
Victory over Auburn in 2014
Pegues punt return vs Ole Miss
Kevin Prentiss punt return vs Tennessee (we didn't win the game but in that moment we felt like we had a shot to beat them and win the SEC)
CJ is still open...

Stolen from T&L... but they discussed something on the show today that I though was fun. What are the top5 moments in MSU football history? Not games, but moments.

Neither Brian nor Robbie mentioned two or three things that I thought were some of the funnest moments we had over the last 15 years. I get the Bama fumble recovery. I get the 98 OM pick and kick.

But these 3 three things were pretty incredible to me;
1) Banks pick 6 against Florida (loudest I ever heard DWS - but this one ranks a little lower cause we lost)
2) Blocked FG at Arkansas to win the wild shootout in the freezing cold over there (couldn't sleep after this one)
3) Piss and the Miss against OM in 2019 (couldn't sleep after this one either)

What say ye?
Serious consideration to Anthony Johnson’s 100 yard pick six in 2007 against Alabama as the clock hit zeros for the half.

Kevin Prentiss punt return in the SECCG. Obviously it didn't cause a win, but at that moment, in that stadium.....we were closer to the promised land than we've ever been.
I attended this game. That 83-yard punt return put us ahead of Tennessee 14-10 in the 4th Quarter of the SEC Championship Game.

I've never been more fired up and excited at an Mississippi State football game.

Prentiss was once a Warren Central Viking, right?

Anthony Johnson's pick 6 vs. Bama. Davis Wade exploded. Chad Bumphis punt return vs. Florida. I swear the stadium was shaking.

The 1974 "Rockey" game against Memphis at night in Memphis against a good Memphis team will always be the biggest to me. You can't understand how bad we had been......we had won 30 games in the prior 10 years.
