1941 Egg Bowl. Beat Mississippi 6-0 to win SEC championship. Only gave up 7 points in 5 conference games. But only scored 40. Football must have been a pretty boring sport back then.
Unlike you I can admit when I’m wrong. No dubmass. We won 24-21.
Dak's iconic TD run at LSU. That stiff arm! Oof.
Since we’re talking about Bear, he had another big moment in that game that I’ll never forget. At some point later in the game when LSU had gained momentum, and it seemed like they were starting to figure our offense out, we had a crucial 3rd and fairly short play where we simply couldn’t give them the ball back. This won't make any other lists, I know, but I distinctly remember one single moment when I realized things were about to be different. The one moment when I thought, "holy crap, we might actually be good" and "dang, we could actually put up a fight here" when I didn't think it was possible.
2014, Baton Rouge, first quarter. We are driving and I've been drinking, so it's fun, but I know as always it will end up in a punt or maybe at best a field goal. They always stop us eventually. We just can't beat these guys. They're in our heads. Been in our heads since the 80's. Something always happens. But hey, glad we're driving, at least we are showing we will be competitive this year for a change. That's nice. Oh look at that, Dak is throwing it to the left side to somebody on an out route - nice idea, but I'm sure it will sail out of the endzone so we'll kick the FG. Take the points, that's fine... HOLY SHITTTTTTTTTTTTT DID HE CATCH THAT ONE HANDED???
Dak to Bear. I'll always remember that moment, the rest of that game, and the wild ride the next few weeks. Good damn times.
As I was reading this I couldn’t help but think that we lost that game. Then I got to your last sentence.Tyson Lee’s TD jump pass to beat LSU in Mullen’s first year.
Oh, wait…if only Lee had been 4” taller….
It was only 31 years go....ha.....so its all good.Unlike you I can admit when I’m wrong.
I WAS WRONG
$2.9 million
Easy # 1:
Great game! I can still remember that Moulds catch! It was only 31 years go....ha.....so its all good.
Wow time fly's!
Stadium has come a long long way!!Wow. I'm still amazed at some of the individual effort that won us that game.
Edward Smith's back to back sacks were huge to get the ball back.
Madkin avoiding the sack on 3rd down.
Hazelwood of course with the clutch gene.
And Kelvin Love... maybe my favorite somewhat underappreciated WR ever. That dude.
1. Beating Bama in 96
We had been so close so many times. They had the ball and were approaching midfield, needing only a field goal to win. Everyone assumed that's what they'd do, because that was who they were. They had to try to convert a 4th down. They threw it to a receiver in the left flats and they dropped it as our guy knocked it away. Just the overall feeling that we had done it - the amazing realization it was true, it was real that we had beaten them.
2. Beating Auburn to become No. 1 - specifically the fumble recovery early in the game - it dawned on me at that moment there may be new and different days possible for State fans.
3. Beating Florida on the Thursday night game in the early 90s - Steve Superior, Shane Matthews - back when a national audience and a Thursday night game was a big deal - almost like a mini-Game Day. We lost Sleepy for good that night but didn't know until later.
4. Beating Arkansas in 98 to clinch the trip to Atlanta. The Egg Bowl win ensured a non-tie for the SEC West, but the Arkansas game clinched Atlanta. I worked for the media then and was standing under the right upright when the kick went through. It wasn't as close to missing as it looked, but it made my heart skip a beat nonetheless.
5. The Tennessee game with the TE Watkins TD catch set up by the Moulds 4th down conversion.
No doubt. And I noticed the lack of bells... listen to the crowd after the FG. We would all be deaf if it happened now. I guess this was in the middle of the period where they were checking and taking up cowbells at the gate. What a crock of shiit.Stadium has come a long long way!!
CJ is still open...None of yours would be on my list. We're talking top five all time?
Bama fumble recovery 1980
Madkin to Sirmones Egg Bowl 1999
Victory over Auburn in 2014
Pegues punt return vs Ole Miss
Kevin Prentiss punt return vs Tennessee (we didn't win the game but in that moment we felt like we had a shot to beat them and win the SEC)
Serious consideration to Anthony Johnson’s 100 yard pick six in 2007 against Alabama as the clock hit zeros for the half.Stolen from T&L... but they discussed something on the show today that I though was fun. What are the top5 moments in MSU football history? Not games, but moments.
Neither Brian nor Robbie mentioned two or three things that I thought were some of the funnest moments we had over the last 15 years. I get the Bama fumble recovery. I get the 98 OM pick and kick.
But these 3 three things were pretty incredible to me;
1) Banks pick 6 against Florida (loudest I ever heard DWS - but this one ranks a little lower cause we lost)
2) Blocked FG at Arkansas to win the wild shootout in the freezing cold over there (couldn't sleep after this one)
3) Piss and the Miss against OM in 2019 (couldn't sleep after this one either)
What say ye?
I attended this game. That 83-yard punt return put us ahead of Tennessee 14-10 in the 4th Quarter of the SEC Championship Game.Kevin Prentiss punt return in the SECCG. Obviously it didn't cause a win, but at that moment, in that stadium.....we were closer to the promised land than we've ever been.
yes, that’s one of the greatest ones.5. The Tennessee game with the TE Watkins TD catch set up by the Moulds 4th down conversion.
