Kidding. I don't think he was in on it either. Though right now I'd say the odds of Sidney being cleared are very low.

that Sidney never puts on maron and never steps onto the floor of the Hump for a game.

The spirits of the Indian Burial Ground are restless.

National Media to MState: "Stansbury, MState, you are essentially a mid-major program. Know your place. Stay in your place."

but whoever he originally committed to is where the problem lies.

And for some reason, I am thinking he gets cleared.

While the NCAA may forcibly suspend him for a few games in the 09-10 season, I really don't see them being able to rule him completely ineligible. But then again, I'm just a homer.

I am hoping the worst case is they suspend him for a few early games, then have him back early December in time to play a game or two before the Depaul/UCLA games.

We had contact, but had backed off because of his apparent interest in only USC and UCLA. It looks like a no harm/no foul situation for us.

Powe's lawyer wasn't able to get him eligible the year he was hired. I think he was hired in 2007. The NCAA allowed Powe to enroll, but he had to sit a year and prove himself in the classroom before being eligible in 2008.

Prior to that, I think Jackson's record in these cases was pretty strong, but with Powe's, he wasn't able to get him eligible immediately.

And the lawyer MSU hired to look at things also happens to be among other things a former law partner of Mike Slive. I may be a little wooly but I like his odds of being cleared too.

The worst downside for us is the Sidney is declared ineligible and doesn't play for us. Parrish was simply making a point that coaches will do about anything to get a top player even if it could cost them their job and he through Stans's name out there just because that's where Sidney ended up signing.

...all they have to do is hold him up for a year, and then he is draft eligible and will be gone. They've delayed stuff much longer (see Powe, Jerell).

the stack of money wasn't given to Guillory in Beverly Hills, it was given to him at the NBA All Star game in Las Vegas. He could at least get simple facts straight before writing an article like this

And like I said, I seem to remember that Jackson had a very good record in eligibility cases prior to falling short with Powe.

....in him being initially cleared and then information comes out after the fact that compromises his amateur status and all of the sudden we have had a season with someone who shouldn't have been an amateur? I think that's possible. Just because the NCAA initially clears somebody doesn't mean that something can't come out later, i.e. Rose and Mayo. What can they do to State? Whatever they want.

We've hired a lawyer with strong NCAA ties to do our due diligence on Sidney. If he clears him, we'll be fine even if something does come out later that might cause him to be ineligible. He'd still be ineligible, but our due diligence would keep us from facing any sanctions or penalties. Also, comparing Sidney at MSU to Mayo at USC isn't really a valid comparison. Mayo's eligibility problems are a direct result of USC's NCAA violations. If Sidney has any eligibility problems, they're the result of USC's (and maybe UCLA's) NCAA violations, not MSU's.

It is clear to me there are coaches out there that simply have no regard for the institution they are employed by

While i disagree with Parrish when he suggests Stans may be the next coach out due to improper benefits, i dont disagree with Parrish in his overall point which i think the article title describes well-

"One-and-done Mayo costs Floyd reputation, job; coaches beware"

Coaches beware. Beware of sketch players because taking the risk and signing them may totally 17 you and your program in the end. Mayo with USC, potentially Rose with Memphis, and now Sidney with MSU.
It could totally F with Stans's reputation and the MSU program if he is admitted and after the fact is found to have been on the take this whole time.

I am all for Sidney playing at MSU because i want MSU to be great...but lets not kid ourselves and actually try to suggest that he is an amateur. He has bounced around schools for the last 4 years, moved out to LA for exposure, the most crooked man in basketball paid for his family to move and for his dad to...well, who really knows what 'consulting' actually is in that regard, and played for an AAU started by his dad and set up as a non-profit that has taken in money yet not reported it to the IRS.
Oh, then there is that whole housing thing. Yep, there is for sure a logical explanation as to how they could afford to live in those houses at those rates and it was all totally legit without any sort of favors.

That isnt an amateur. Thats a kid whose talent is being used to help improve the lives of his family. Right or wrong, thats the reality of the situation.

And the NCAA says that players who are compensated like he is suspected of being compensated really isnt an amateur.

because Mayo was one and done. The reason his reputation was hurt was because of the improprieties. You think Jim Calhoun's reputation is hurt because of Carmelo Anthony?

but $$$ his dad was paid, how does that affect him?
I agree, it would totally suck for Sidney if he is no longer an amateur just because his dad was using him for money and getting all those benefits. What is the Kid suppose to do in a situation like this?

we signed him because we can smell a West title.

I am sure someone we all know has already sent this writer at least a dozen emails setting him straight on what SEC West titles are actually worth.
