Yet only two NC’s in 47 years…that wouldn’t fly with this board these days.He did his job. Best big bowl game record ever. More “uncrowned” undefeated teams than all the rest of d1 combined. Winningest coach of all time.
Still not as good as the OSU teams since Urban. And the years OSU was #1, Joe lost to them. How would Joe have done if he had to play Bear Bryant’s Bama teams every year?Woody had a few decent teams and players. Back-to-back Heisman Trophy winner ring a bell? Learn.
I’m just tired of the fantasy narrative that Franklin is compared to by some on this board. Why are you comparing JVP to CJF? The comparisons are irrelevant and JVP would like what CJF has done - he has been an extension of the "Success With Honor" culture that JVP initiated.
Absolutely! If you are #8 historically, there will be seasons above and below that. My issue is with those fans who mistakenly think PSU has resources that other universities don't possess.
but what of nattys? Don’t urban and day have nattys (yes)Huh? What? What I posted has nothing to do with "logic" (which you clearly lack) - it has to do with simple OBJECTIVE FACTS. Urban Meyer (and Ryan Day) were 1-4 during the Regular Season against teams they played who finished ranked Top 5 in the Final Poll of the same season. Again, that is a FACT, not "my logic" dipsheet. It is also a FACT, not "logic", that Urban Meyer (And Ryan Day so far in his career) only played 5 Regular Season games against opponents who finished in the Top 5 of the Final AP Poll for that specific season in his 17 year FBS HC career. And lastly, it is A FACT, not "logic", that CJF has played 13 teams in the Regular Season that have finished Top 5 in the Final AP Poll for that season during his 11 years at PSU through last year (duhO$U & MSU in 2014, duhO$U in 2015, duhO$U 2017, duhO$U 2018, duhO$U 2019, duhO$U in 2020, scUM 2021, scUM & duhO$U in 2022, scUM in 2023 and duhO$U 2024).
Again, those are objective FACTS based on simple mathematics, not "my logic". There isn't a coach in America who has faced the number of TRUE Top 5 teams (i.e., teams who finished the season in the Top 5 of Final AP Poll) during the Regular Season as CJF has - again, Urban Meyer and Ryan Day to-date are both 1-4 against TRUE Top 5 competition during the Regular Season.
BTW, what does all your word-salad illogical psycho-babble about undefeated teams have to do with being a TRUE Top 5 team in a given season (i.e., being Ranked Top 5 in the Final AP Poll)??? 99% of the TRUE Top 5 teams over CJF's career were not undefeated genius, so what in the hell you're prattling on about, only you know in that peanut-brain of yours.
People love to remember a history that we don't actually have. And still only won two NC’s in 47 years and none in the last 25. And did not have near the success once they joined the Big 10.
You mean Joe didn’t have 20 NC and B1G titles?People love to remember a history that we don't actually have.
Joe had 2 nattys yo 82 n 86. I was there for both.You mean Joe didn’t have 20 NC and B1G titles?![]()
Really? We only won 2? Some of our fans act Joe won 20!Joe had 2 nattys yo 82 n 86. I was there for both.
Here's the skinny on all the James Franklin hate. You better hope he wins. Because if he does, chances are he's leaving. His buyout is down to 1 million after 2025. If PSU makes a run in the playoffs again, he will be offered 13 million per year by someone. I doubt PSU will want to match that given their committments to the stadium and the fact that they need to get in the top 5-8 of NIL. If he goes 8-4 or 9-3 he's staying, because his buyout is 50 million and they aren't paying him that parting gift and then bringing in a replacement with a 100 million dollar contract.
We're in the horns of an enema.“I hope Franklin doesn’t win too much because I want him to stay.”

So what? Like they needed you?Joe had 2 nattys yo 82 n 86. I was there for both.
45 years of meaningless winsYet only two NC’s in 47 years…that wouldn’t fly with this board these days.
"Pick me a winner Bobby." LolThat’s why Krafty is paid the big bucks.
PSUThat’s Krafty’s job. If you lose every big game, there is no where to go but up!
How about make a run at Urban Meyer? Kind of like getting Knowles on steroids!
"No where to go but up!" Fanboy of a team that has 5 top 10 finishes in 9 years. That’s Krafty’s job. If you lose every big game, there is no where to go but up!

You want CJF fired? Seriously? When will such success result in a win over a top team? Another dozen years? How about a big road win? Year 30?
That’s from The Natural!"Pick me a winner Bobby." Lol
That’s unnecessary, and unfairly besmirches Joe. Joe was worth it. He did a lot of good. And a molesting pedo leading the vaunted defense during those years. Worth it?
I would take Schiano or Rhule before I would take Urban Meyer. Why would we ever want to bring the Urban dynamic into happy Valley? It would be a disaster.Technically he’s available but probably very little chance he ever coaches again. Urban Meyer was 20-8 vs top 10 teams, 11-4 vs top 5 teams, and 3-2 vs the #1 ranked team. I would say that’s an incredible record.
I don’t want him, just responding to the comment that said nobody beats top 5 teams. Some people only care about winning no matter how much of a scumbag the coach is.I would take Schiano or Rhule before I would take Urban Meyer. Why would we ever want to bring the Urban dynamic into happy Valley? It would be a disaster.
Urban was Joe’s choice for his replacement wasn’t he?I would take Schiano or Rhule before I would take Urban Meyer. Why would we ever want to bring the Urban dynamic into happy Valley? It would be a disaster.

That was the word, not sure how true it is. Rumor was also that Urban to PSU was all but a done deal at one point.Urban was Joe’s choice for his replacement wasn’t he?
Urban was probably the choice with pending sanctions when most coaches did not want the job. It is kind of irrelevant at that point. That was the word, not sure how true it is. Rumor was also that Urban to PSU was all but a done deal at one point.
People talk a lot about "record vs Top 5" - and it is very bad. But also, kind of silly since no one has great records vs "Top5" - its just that HCJF's record is kind of an outlier of "really bad".Then top 5 wins is not your priority.
He's won everywhere he's been. Why would it be a disaster?I would take Schiano or Rhule before I would take Urban Meyer. Why would we ever want to bring the Urban dynamic into happy Valley? It would be a disaster.
Yes!And a molesting pedo leading the vaunted defense during those years. Worth it?
Integrity and wins are my priorities. Urban Meyer has very little integrity. Then top 5 wins is not your priority.
Isn’t it somewhere that Joe wanted Meyer? Or maybe had Meyer and somebody else as his choices? I seem to remember it but can’t remember where.Urban was probably the choice with pending sanctions when most coaches did not want the job. It is kind of irrelevant at that point.
Joe wanted Jay. Joe was keeping the seat warm for Jay who was not even qualified to be an assistant.
By your definition it's not a big game when we play OSU, their talent level is far superior to ours and has been for a decade.I don't deserve anything. Franklin doesn't know I exist. This is not about deserving anything. This is about James Franklin being much, much better in big games. Results matter and that means getting it done on the biggest stages. He is a good coach, good CEO for the program. He is not an elite coach. It is not unreasonable to expect he wins more big games. I can't count Boise State and SMU as big games. They just were not. Yes, they were playoff games but not big games like beating OSU or Michigan or Oregon. Our talent level is so far superior to a Boise or SMU that you can't categorize them as big games. The Oregon game is HUGE. I want James to win as much as anyone and I sincerely hope he delivers so he can throw it back in the face of his critics like me.
Because he's already 64 years old.So if Franklin ends up leaving, is there any reason we couldn’t go get Cignetti away from Indiana?
If you get rid of Franklin there's probably a 90% chance the next guy will not be as successful, because Franklin has PSU performing better than 90% of CFB on an annual basis. On top of that, he supports a lot of PSU's traditional values. Getting rid of him would be monumentally stupid.I don’t really know. I mentioned Cignetti not as a replacement. I mentioned him to show the difficulty in determining who will succeed. I don’t know if many people could predict his current success at Indiana. And would his current success translate to a higher profile football school? I was trying to show the foolishness in the argument that PSU should part ways with Franklin. I think it’s absurd. Franklin has things running really well. There‘s no basis to part ways with him. There’s actually a stronger argument to retain him.
We like well-seasoned hc’s at PSU.Because he's already 64 years old.
