That's what a Memphis fan told me today. I kind of laughed it off, but he claims that they're going to go after him with Fred Smith cash... Hmmm... Makes you wonder. Right now I'd still give it about a 1% chance of it actually happening. What say ye?

I doubt it because of the facilities and enability to recruit the kind of athletes that he is accustomed to getting to campus. The season is still young, but the U might be looking for a new coach, because this is Shannon's last year if he doesn't get it done. Let's not forget about UGA either, they could also be looking if things don't change real soon. I just don't see Ears going to "powerless" conference just to do it. He is an established winner in the toughest conference in the country.</p>

about just about everything. This is the same fanbase that had "logical" explanations as to how their entire basketball team had a collection of jewelry and furs in their apartments when they got ripped off about 5 years ago.

Tubby is sitting out this year and biding his time. And I'm pretty sure it isn't to snap up the Memphis job. He'll have his pick of where he wants to go.

respect for him, and it wouldn't surprise me. They are totally disgusted with "The Hat." He represents the past and Dan represents the future...at Mississippi State University.

post game comments and he makes me laugh...but dude is defniitely lacking Xs and Os knowledge...He's a great recruiter and I like his intensity and passion but that doesn't necessarily make you a good coach. I like a little cerebral action....been saying that for years. He's won more games and given the Stallion more heart attacks than any coach I can remember. That dude has 9 lives for sure.

Shannon isn't going anywhere. He needed to get through the first four games at 2-2 or better to keep the masses at bay and he's done at least that well. Miami will win 8-9 at minimum with the remaining schedule and the team is still very young. He will continue to kick *** recruiting Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties and keep things going in the right direction.

he can realistically claim for that..at least the ones from the state of Louisiana...well over a majority would most likely sign with them anyway...no competition inside the state to speak of...and you already know that, so it ain't news.

Tubberville used to really get under Tigahhs` skins. He was a very poor winner when he beat LSU and I bet a lot of them remember that. It doesn`t get the big publicity but LSU-Auburn is a hell of a rivalry.</span></span></span></p>

1. They are going to join the SEC because of the new "consultant" they hired to get them into a BCS conference. (When you ask exactly who is going to leave the SEC to make room they have no good answer but seem to think either Vandy will leave or Arkansas will join the Big 12.) The Big Easy would be there "safety conference".

2. They are going to build a new on-campus stadium on the main campus. In order to do this they are going to use eminent domain on about 100 homes and tear down a historical neighborhood in the heart of Memphis. They believe the reason they don't sell out the games is because people don't want to go to the Liberty Bowl which is two miles from the main campus. (Keep in mind the person telling me this lives 1/10th of a mile from the Liberty Bowl, doesn't buy season tickets, is not a member of the Highland 100, and maybe attends one football game a year.)

3. They aren't losing much by Calipari leaving because Memphis is essentially a NBA development team league. Because they play in the FedEx forum they can pick up any kid they want. Having a first year coach isn't going to cause any sort of drop off because the talent level is too high.

There was one more but I can't remember. Just added to point out how delusional Memphis fans are.

I could see them at least making a run at Sherrill. He lives in Memphis, last I heard, and he knows the area as far as recruiting. I could see Jackie maybe wanting to get back into the game now that some things in his life have settled down.

I'm just not sure that Sherrill would want to do it, though.

I think he would be a good choice, though.

Memphis football fans are ridiculous. They act like the Liberty Bowl is in Little Rock or something. Like you said, it's 2 freaking miles from campus. The reason people don't go there is ****** football. There is no other reason.

I think someone over at BDJ said Sherrill moved back to Texas in the last few weeks.

He still owns a house in Germantown, TN. His house is about a mile from me and I used to see him out walking all the time but haven't lately so he might be living in TX most of the time now

Tubby will be on the short list at LSU, should the Madd Hatter not make it.

The question is, will LSU fire Miles after an other 8-4 or 7-5 season, which is where they are headed?

If so, that job will be open. Also, I look for Sherman at A&M to get fired after they finish 5th or 6th in the Big 12 South this year. Tubby will be on that list as well. Tuberville will not settle for the Memphis job no matter what kind of money they go at him with.

Memphis would be better off trying to hire Gus Malzahn, if Malzahn would be willing to take it as a stepping stone job.

Memphis hires a competent coach just as soon as we start playing them again. We have an uncanny knack for doing that.

A 'normal' 8-4 season might not do Miles in, but right now they are 4-0 and ranked #4 in the polls. I'm sure there are many LSU fans that believe LSU actually IS a Top 5 team, and those fans are going to be supremely pissed if they go 4-4 over their next 8 and fall out of the rankings. That huge drop from where they are now might be enough to get Miles fired.

I've heard on these boards that Tubby to Texas A&M could happen. He was their DC before he took the UMiss job.

Malzahn to Memphis would be a good move, but if Auburn continues to do well, Malzahn will get a better job offer than Memphis and he'll take it. Then Chizik will be in trouble soon after.

memphis and they will pay fred smith money too. tub's ain't going to a two bit program like memphis. tiger high pipe dream and meaning no offense cause ole miss fans are as delusional as anybody, but i remember last yr when tub to msu was a done deal and he was touring the campus. tub will wait on a "big time" job which will come down the pike in the next yr or so. A & M has been his dream job (i know, nobody can explain it) and that may be open, also miami, lsu, uga, heck nd although don't know if tubs likes snow.
