Tyler Devera commits to Maryland

The Wayne, New Jersey, native and Bergen Catholic product is the No. 68 tight end in the country and No. 38 player in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite. Devera visited Maryland this weekend and pledged to Mike Locksley’s staff before leaving College Park.

Devera becomes the second tight end in Maryland’s 2019 class; three-star prospect Malik Jackson committed and signed with the Terps in December. Tight ends have been almost a non-factor in Maryland’s passing game for a couple years, although Chigoziem Okonkwo made an impact as a true freshman last year. Devera and Jackson will join Okonkwo, Noah Barnes and Andrew Park as the Terps’ scholarship tight ends in 2019.

The Terps’ 2019 class now has 14 members, as Devera joins kicker/punter Anthony Pecorella in committing Sunday. The traditional signing period begins Wednesday, and Maryland is still in the mix for a handful of other prospects.

In addition to being the ring leader in the Credit Card 8 gang while at RU, older brother Brendan gained notoriety as an exterminator for a firm in North Jersey.

“Brendan Devera, a former Wayne Hills football star and Rutgers linebacker, was sentenced to two years probation on Friday for stealing more than $5,000 from a Paramus church.

Devera pleaded guilty to a third-degree theft charge stemming from an incident in July 2021 and was sentenced by Bergen County Superior Court Judge Keith Bachmann.

While working as an exterminator, Devera stole $5,400 from Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Paramus, most of it from the church's youth group funds.

Devera's attorney, Ron Ricci, said his client was "apologetic" for his actions and would pay back the money in full.”
