Yeah first half sucked but some of these dudes had wrote Cats off before the game even started and then proceeded to put em down the whole game.
They sure did, I even said it in the Butler being out thread. Let’s at least play the damn game.

The team started the second half like they were ready to fight. I posted throughout the second half that we would be comfortable in control of the game if not for the halfhearted effort in the first half. I was concerned if they would run out of gas in the second half trying to overcome the 16-point deficit.
Yes, I was concerned that we couldn't get over the hump, and at that point I was OK with it because they fought like wildcats to get back into the game. But my confidence grew as the game progressed. It felt like it was inevitable that we would win. What a game!

He needs some of what Carr has. Carr and butler have so much energy
Carr is a beast when the offense is run through him and he is given the space down low to operate.
How many times have opposing teams hit desperation shots against us with seconds remaining. I’ve never seen anything like it, we should have won by at least by 3 to 5 points but Nolan Hickman shot that one from the colon and was well guarded. The sh— keeps happening to us, I don’t see how we overcome all of the things that didn’t go our way to win that game, especially with Kerr going out and Butler not playing. I was so afraid we would turn the ball over without our next to best ball handler out, what a win!
Well, Robinson hit one of those shots too when he drove to the left side of the lane for that floater.

Just wanna say @FiveStarCat called it in the now locked troll thread. He said “I can’t wait to see the adjustments Pope makes in the second half because you know it’s coming.” Spot on ole chap.

Y’all you may think I’m crazy but I think this win is bigger than the Duke win for us
We were coming off a loss, without our starting pg, then without our backup pg down the stretch. Came back from 18 down to win on a DEFENSIVE play in OT
That’s freaking amazing to me
I agree totally, this is huge for our resume and general mental state. We believe we can win these games now.

There are a lot of posters waiting for a chance to say I told you so. Notice that said posters and not fans. However, for those who know just a little about coaching, they realize that Pope is making all of the right calls. When players start games without energy, it is on the players and not the coach. You can't coach desire.

Guys, I believe we have witnessed two of the most exciting Kentucky games in years and the fact that they both occurred within the first 9 games of the season and with a first-year coach is remarkable. This reminds me of the RP days when we were seldom ever really out of a game.

As hard as it is going to be, I have to go to bed so that I can go to church tomorrow. Win are lose, this is going to be an exciting season. I have to believe Pope is catching the attention of a lot of good players looking for somewhere to play next season. GBB!!

Appreciate the shout out. I definitely wasn’t thinking his adjustments were going to result in a dub, that’s for damn sure. I’m still in shock they pulled that off

<<<----Me right now.

What a game.

The effort, team play, and coaching we saw after halftime are what Kentucky Basketball is all about to me.

This is the kind of game that explains why I never thought we'd lose when I was much younger.

We are Kentucky. We are the standard. In crunch time, we make the plays, and we win. If you want to beat us, you have to earn it over the full 40 minutes. We do not beat ourselves.

I don't need anything else for Christmas this year. Mark Pope, this team, and the return of what Kentucky Basketball is all about are more than I ever could've asked for.

Auburn has also played a much tougher schedule than we have.

It's not just being down by that much. It's being down by that much in every single tough opponent we've played so far.
You've never played competitive sports in your life, contributed to a team, or reached goals.

This is why you'll never get the job you want

I think it was our overall conditioning, free-throw shooting, 1-3-1 zone, effort and HEART that won it for us.
We wore them down in the second half, as their man-to-man defense was sagging more because they had wobbly legs.
Pope/staff are to be greatly commended for getting these guys in shape to play so hard in the second half, if not even harder.
They are surely seeing that their conditioning may be their ace in the hole. Oweh was a leader in effort last night, I thought.
He wanted it and the others seem to feed off of it !!

Just skimmed through the comments that were posted up thru about 11pm. Kinda funny to see how many comments that were trashing our guys. Then it's all praise as of this morning. Can we have a mod pin this thread so we can refer back to it during the season?

Comedy gold!

It may well be that many of us are learning the style of this team. We may be more of a tortoise than a hare. I know it looked very gloomy in the first half, but we clearly seem to play much harder in the second and it may be due, in large part, to our conditioning. We were MUCH the stronger, fresher and quicker team in the last ten (10) minutes of the game. Now, remembering this, fans will be more inclined to think being down early is not a death knell ... but more of a call to arms.

We play so hard, it is going to be hard for us to really have a bad game, even when we lose. Effort and conditioning matter ... !!

pope already winning the kind of games cal never could. in fact, we’d have been out against duke and gonzaga with stud talent.

great fight down the stretch defensively. even against clemson they showed this. great job.
They have shown this in every big game. This team has heart, they fight until the final tick off the clock. Lots of close games to love them. I can see now why Butler hit that final 4 shot. He is clutch, I honestly wouldn’t mind him taking a game winner even from. 3. We couldn’t buy one in the last couple minutes against Clemson and hit hit one to give us a slight chance at the end. I know Oweh will drill a couple too, he’s missed some wide open looks late, but he’s getting open.

Easy win loved the way Carr missed the free throws so time would run out
Right on plan, that is listening to your coach right there. Cal would never have told any player to miss on purpose, he would have been like make and then play rough on the inbound so the refs can steal this!

I must have missed the posts that were trashing our guys. However, if you call saying players started a 3rd straight game half-*** trashing the players, you can add me to that list if I am not already there. We showed no life against Georgia St until after Williams was assaulted. We followed that game with similar play against Clemson which resulted in a loss. We allowed Clemson to bully us the entire night. Last night was no different in the first half. There were times when we gave up 3 & 4 offensive rebounds after Pope told the players prior the game if they didn't want to rebound, they basically didn't want to win. Something happened at half time that made them want to go out and fight. Simply stated, we can't keep starting games as we have the past 3 games and expect a deep run in the playoffs. This wasn't even close to being a Pope issue. It is players deciding they want to give as well as they receive.

My friend, you are exactly right. That switching defense confused one of the best point guards in the nation. A Cal coached team loses this game by 30.
Nembhard is just as good as any PG I have seen. He is almost as good as his brother now.

Nah that’s not it, a couple guys started threads saying Pope can’t coach at this level, and trashing different guys saying we have no talent and ridiculous stuff.
