My takeaways from the first game that we've been able to see in person: Devey wasn't as influential as I'd hoped, although she was the only one who made a decision to light it up from outside the box and was rewarded for it. I thought that was open all evening and nobody seemed interested in trying it out. Devey has a high work rate. I think Hope Munson is legit. She made a few mistakes, and a weak pass or two, but overall, I think she played really well. And her speed is something else. I also liked Riley Kennedy. She has Penny's ball handling but also looks and turns up-field more than Penny. She looks a bit like Nagai. It will be interesting to see what happens there when Tessa returns. I appreciate that they're trying Gaetino at 10, but it hasn't looked good so far. It's still very early, so maybe she becomes a threat up there. But I think it exposes the back line quite a bit and doesn't really add much to a good attacking group. Brooks looked super-athletic in warm ups. No idea if that translates to great goalkeeping, but her natural abilities won't stand in the way. Overall, I was encouraged by how much the high and mid press were actually generating contact, rather than just creating pressure and slowing advancement. And it was mostly freshmen doing the hard work.
Anyway, what do I know? Nothing, that's what.
