Here is the news release from the ACC:

UNC gets 10 of 17 votes for preseason #1 (some idiot voted for UVA)

Hard to argue with the 4 that UNC got on the preseason 1st team. I think Gaetino, Bradley (transfer in) and perhaps Pennie could earn a strong look in the post season, but their previous campaigns were not so strong that they were slighted here.

Tomorrow we play Wake in an exhibition, only time we'll see them this season outside of any post season tourney. Pre-season #10. Thoughts on Wake? I don't think they have any UNC transfers that helped them last year.

Wake was an extremely senior-laden team last year. They lose 6 of their 7 top point scorers, and the top returning scorer left was a defender who had 3 goals. They had 14 women who started at least 5 games. 11 of them are gone. They retain a GK, RD & LD. I have no idea who they are bringing in, but this is not the Wake team we played last year.

The WFU board reports that UVA was up on WFU 3 0 after 60 minutes in their exhibition. No final score was reported.

Super random, but are dogs allowed at Dorrance for exhibition games as long as they are on a leash? It’s the greatest August day in NC history and thinking about checking out the exhibition tonight.

It’s an exhibition. I get it.

But this team just mashed Wake out. Deacs didn’t have a link in the offensive half until about the 35’ minute. UNC was two steps quicker to nearly any ball.

Also, if the concessions at Dorrance are any indication, it’s gonna cost a mortgage to eat any food at Kenan this season.

Heels win 4-1. Last three goals were by Ullmark, Thomas and Devey. Who scored the first goal? Faasse was passing the ball to Thomas and the ball went in the net. It may have deflected off a Wake player.

OG. I don’t remember who- it was at the other end, but there was a near collision and a shot ricocheted off one of UNC’s players at close range.

My takeaways from the first game that we've been able to see in person: Devey wasn't as influential as I'd hoped, although she was the only one who made a decision to light it up from outside the box and was rewarded for it. I thought that was open all evening and nobody seemed interested in trying it out. Devey has a high work rate. I think Hope Munson is legit. She made a few mistakes, and a weak pass or two, but overall, I think she played really well. And her speed is something else. I also liked Riley Kennedy. She has Penny's ball handling but also looks and turns up-field more than Penny. She looks a bit like Nagai. It will be interesting to see what happens there when Tessa returns. I appreciate that they're trying Gaetino at 10, but it hasn't looked good so far. It's still very early, so maybe she becomes a threat up there. But I think it exposes the back line quite a bit and doesn't really add much to a good attacking group. Brooks looked super-athletic in warm ups. No idea if that translates to great goalkeeping, but her natural abilities won't stand in the way. Overall, I was encouraged by how much the high and mid press were actually generating contact, rather than just creating pressure and slowing advancement. And it was mostly freshmen doing the hard work.

Anyway, what do I know? Nothing, that's what.

Munson’s quickness and burst were absolutely evident on Saturday. Great callout.

Live stats will be here

7p.m. contest Thursday at Regal Soccer Stadium.
SEC Network will televise the match with Mike Watts (PxP) and Jill Loyden (Analyst) on the call.

TN returns 9 of 11 starters with 3 experienced transfers but is unranked after going 9-7-4 last year and finishing #51 in RPI ranking. That is quite a fall after starting the season 3 years ago ranked 11th and neck-and-neck with us in our3-0 season opener win that year.

All SEC Freshman team MF #12 Mattern is probably their most talented returning player, SEC 3rd team #22 Midgley is their top returning scorer. #18 D Brown also SEC 3rd team. Robinson #8 and #2 O’Rourke are transfers that had similar accolades to the above on other SEC teams.

Feels like we’re so focused on keeping possession when there are opportunities to go forward at times. Devey is legit.
